Im younger but your wife is a trooper......Alot of these young gals couldnt hang. Stay safe guys. If you got room to pack get yourself a "lil buddy" to heat the tent if you need it..One of those cans goes 8 hours.
Here's my suggestion once the roads clear: In the AM about 7:00, face directly at the rising Sun. Now raise your right arm horizonal to the ground and point your index finger straight out. Now point your M/Cs in that direct, hop on and head out until you reach warmer weather. You can always return to the North once winter is over. Be safe!
you guys are truly living the dream. The adversity just makes for more amazing memories . You both are truly blessed with each other and with a life full of adventure in this marvelous creation.
Wow ....im just amazed how you guys just do it , la, la ,la , no problem, its part of life .... My wife would be complaining...lol ....hats off to you guys ...cute couple , great team work 👏
As I sit in my climate controlled house watching this, I first thought that they are crazy. I started to think about it. I am the crazy one sitting on a chair and not experiencing life. When problems arise, the adventure begins.
It's funny , We stayed at Hidden Valley for the 74th Rally. The high for the week was 68 degrees. We knew it was suppose to be cold, but the added elevation made it even colder. We left a day early because the low was 35 degrees. Oh yes, the Dakotas.
Life's an adventure. Sometimes it makes memory's you will never forget. I got caught in the rockies in Sept will never forget. Be safe on your travels.
Best Accessories I have ever acquired Is heated pants and jacket. My wife agrees. We have had them for twenty years and they still work great. Gloves and socks and a Rheostat are also available. I have never been cold while riding, plugs in under the seat, and they work well with rain gear.
Love the shot when the guy in the background is walking around in shorts while these two are freezing. 45 degrees is still shorts weather for us. All depends on what you are used to. I see this was shot in early September. Freak early storm in the hills. Keep posting the great content and stay safe!
I live in Idaho and a gold prospector friend of mine rode a two-wheel-drive Ural motorcycle with a sidecar all winter. He was quite a sight to see coming over the mountain to town with a fur hat, goggles, big gauntlet style fur mittens on, and all hunched up over his motorcycle to stay warm LOL...
Now that's what you call a real adventure!, And that's what you call A REAL LADY. It takes great character to able to be able to giggle through the tough times. You guys had a real experience!! Lucky man, awesome Lady, Great adventure!!
I love this kind of stuff. Getting stuck in a snow storm is the epitome of an adventure. I recently went thru a crazy nasty hail storm while visiting Yosemite and as miserable as we were with temps in the high 40's, raining, hail and mud slides thru Tioga pass there was no place I had rather been then right there, right then. Deuces ✌️
two things. covers for the bikes always a smart idea in the winter. when camping in a tent in the winter step inside the tent and push out gently to knock off the snow.
What an adventure. The scenery is breathtaking! The snow covered bikes priceless! As you continue your adventure be extra careful of icy roads until you are well south of the Dakotas!
To keep your glass and panels 'ice-and-snow' free, just keep a small squirt bottle (like WIndex) full of Rain-X windshield fluid...spray as needed. It melts ice and snow down into -F numbers! Makes 'clean-up' very easy. Next year...map your 'regions' for where you want to be at what time of year (like, 'leave Alaska no later than Aug 15', 'leave Colorado below 8,000-ft by Sept 25', etc.). Another GREAT tool to use to 'map regions' is the Burpee Seed Grow Regions chart...easy to see 'areas to stay in, or out of' by given calendar days. South Padre Island in the Winter isn't a bad 'wintering' spot...as is South Florida (carnies used to do this, for the very same reason...though costs are a LOT HIGHER than they had to deal with). USE A PERSONAL PLANNER to 'zone plan', so you almost-NEVER have to deal with snow!!! (though I don't know I'd take nice 'dressers' down into Central America at this time...in the old-days, you could plan a 'winter-over' in Belize...they DO speak English as a primary language...but again, more dangerous now, and prices are MUCH higher than they used to be).
I rode 3-4 days with at least a little snow each day on my way back from SC a couple of years ago. Didn't try to camp. It's great there were cabins there. You soon learn that even a few hundred feet of change in elevation can make all the difference.
Man, all that snow on those bikes... that's borderline bike abuse :) I thought you may have considered dragging the tent onto the covered shelter right next to the tent. Got to hand it to you, you don't give up very easily. Thanks for sharing.
bike covers traveling take up too much room and are too heavy.....and if used in bad weather they have tendencies to mildew, before drying out if packed tight and damping other items....Makes a big mess....I used to use two trash bags....one for windshield and one for seat...or a half cover which would fold up to the size of a coke can...
@@lcasey6597 Yeah. Didn't consider the mildew aspect. Despite having very lightweight covers, it *would* take up space that otherwise could be used for something else. Not having a large trailer on that one bike, a cover isn't as feasible as I had initially thought. It *was* a good idea tho.
Get an Aerostich bike cover. My first lasted 9 years and 110,000 miles, now have a new one. Packs down into it's own pocket. Black dries off quickly. Not inexpensive but great value in my opinion. It lives in my saddle bag on my FJR. I would use it as a shelter if needed in an emergency. No mildew issues at all.
Sitting inside watching this episode. Little colder here. Talking to you from Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada. Been minus 15 serious wind chill. Going to minus 20 celsius tonight. And, yes a windchill. We have been watching most of your shows from your preping for your great travels in Texas, while everyone else sits at home during covid. Thanks for your dedication to your trip and to sharing it with us. Your a wonderful couple. All the best to your continued travels. Lorna and Clay, Alberta
WOW! You're a hardy and determined pair! I remember camping at Yellowstone in a an Apache tent trailer in August of 1965 (no heater or electric hookup). It SNOWED overnight. The water in our wash basin was solid ice and we nearly froze, as well. We never went on another vacation without hats, mittens, scarves, heavy sweatshirts, and extra blankets. Oh yeah, before the snow, a BEAR wandered through our campsite when we were getting ready for bed. Afterward, my dad left us in the trailer and went out to "defend someone else's site" (mom's words), she was furious! BTW, I would have emptied your tent and brought it into the cabin to dry; and then packed it away; but that's just me. Carry on and Happy Trails!
Yes, you are so right about the tent. We initially thought it was going to just be cold with some rain and slight snow - nothing our tent couldn't handle, but it quickly got out of hand. Lesson learned that hard way. Love your story!
A heavy duty merino wool base layer with additional layers and textile outer with liner works great for cold weather. I’ve ridden in 32 degrees and stayed warm. Actually electric heated garment under the outer layer will keep you toasty warm.👍
First time commenting, but we've been following your guys since you sold the house. The snow looked beautiful....and cold. When Richard said the date September 7....I realized that we would have been in Deadwood (same campground in a tent) at the same time on our V-Stroms. We were supposed take our annual trip but cancelled it due to Covid. Y'all stay safe and warm.
I live in Minnesota, in South Dakota a lot hauling cattle, I remember that storm . It was a bit of a freak storm, it’s happened before but not really that often. I’ve been out there a lot on the bike that time of the year. Really enjoy your videos, thanks for sharing!
Great. Video. My wife also brings a umbrella on our road trips (great for when stuck on interstate in high temperatures, some shade at least or a snow storm ) beautiful country!
Hey guys, this was your best video yet! I love how beautiful the snow was and wish I could’ve been there. Thanks for living an adventurous life and letting me and the rest of the world watch it. John Stafford Temple Texas
I always cover my bike regardless of how good or inclement the weather. One more item to carry, but......Snow in September😳. Another great video. Thank you!
I road through "Freezing Fog" outside of Wasco, Oregon heading to camp at Cottonwood Canyon State Park. "Freezing Fog" are two terrifying words when you're on two wheels. By the time I realized I was in it I only could try to push through. I just watched the road and hoped that there was still enough ambient heat from the day that the frost wasn't forming on the road yet. Fortunately I made it safely. Two hours later though a FedEx truck slid off the road and down a steep canyon. The driver was okay from what the Ranger told me. Still scary stuff.
First time visitor. Nice video. I live in New Hampshire. When you left the tent up I was thinking "No, don't leave it up in the snow. It will collapse! Then you decided to lay it down and I was thinking "No, don't lay it down!. It will freeze in the snow!" Oh, and here in New Hampshire, a foot of snow is no big deal, too. Thanks for posting!
I got into a blizzard on the New York State Thruway (I-90) east of Buffalo. It was 75 degrees when I left Cleveland. I was a young buck and fearless. I left the tollway to head north on 81 and had to stop. The state patrol brought me to their garage, let me stay the night, and we had a great time.
You have a trailer for your motorcycles, why don't you have a cover for them ? Snow removal tip for your tent. Go inside the tent and just hit the sides and the snow will slide off.
Been reading some comments and can't believe how ignorant some people are. You have to keep explaining to them it was a freak snow storm. I've been riding since 68 and have run into similar situations and I admire the way you made the best of it. The same week my wife and I left central Alberta and headed for Watertown National Park putting on about 1500 miles total ; no rain ; no snow averaging about 65 F everyday.
Yes! Yes! The audience cheers with a standing ovation. Yet another fantastic video. Some may look at the snow as a nuisance but in reality it's a blessing from God that is part of the motorcycle Journey. Fantastic cooking segment with the iron skillet. And to end with excellent musical editing in at around 16 minutes. Thank you for sharing an excellent video.
Great footage. It does look nice when it snows but a pain when camping in a tent. I got caught at a winter rally in New Zealand (Brass Monkey) one year when it blew and snowed and the tent collapsed on me, Had to us a camp chair to hold an area of the tent up so I could stay under cover. It's all about the adventure. Have a very Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year.
Ice fishing tents are insulated. Saw a video of a guy winter camping with one the other day. They heat those with indoor safe heaters that many use in vans. He turned his on low and it quickly got too hot hot for him and he had to turn it off. They come in all sizes and shapes.
Michigan here my 70's shovel head dresser handle's the snow better than my rubber band drive road King , HA!!! Thank you for posting this video a lot of fun .
We were pretty stationery when the snow hit - not sure if we would have wanted to ride in it. But Chris is from MI and totally understands how the snow is that far north.
Unfortunately that is South Dakota for you. We left the Black Hills exactly 1 month before and it was perfect. Amazing the difference in a months weather. But as all of us bikers say, "It's one more road trip story!" You'll laugh about it later! But you guys made a good call on the cabin. Enjoyed your video as usual!
I would definitely invest in a cheap bike cover to carry their light and can fold up pretty small to keep all inclements of weather off when not riding especially the UV light good video i enjoyed it safe journeys !
I was in Colorado a week AFTER a freak early snow storm. Probably the same storm that caught you guys. There was still plenty left at the higher elevations but the roads were very dry except where the runoff crossed over. Really a perfect time to be there with afternoon highs in the 70's. We live and learn. Glad you got out of there, what a great adventure. Home base is Fort Worth.
In Sun , rain and now snow, you're awesome, resilient and your inspiration and motivation sharing just keeps going, well done and thank you!! Stay Safe! 👍👍
Been there, almost done that! We were caught in very frosty weather the morning after our excursion on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad a few years back. We stayed in a motel though, so were snuggly and warm. Still had to dress head to toe in heated gear to travel the next morning. What an adventure! I didn't realize Texicans were so entertaining!!!! Also, suggest you invest in covers for bikes and trailer. I cover mine every night. Keeps out weather and prying eyes.
Wow now that’s some snow! I have 2 questions if you don’t mind. 1. Did you double down on cooking gas prior to the storm? The last time I camped during snow I made coffee a lot to keep warm and the fuel I brought which should of lasted me 2 weeks only lasted me 4 days because of all the coffee I made to keep warm. 2. We’re you concerned with the Harley being able to start in the cold? I have an Indian tourer have noticed mine struggles very much to start when it’s below 32. To the point I’m fearful it not starting at all when on the road and a cold snap comes by.
I really enjoyed that video. It is a strange thing to be stranded by snow on your motorcycle. It makes you appreciate even the rain.I love your roll with the punches attitude.Ride safe and enjoy your ride south
Most definitely not what you want to see while traveling on a bike. Lol, I would be cooking in the cabin where there's heat. Safe traveling guy's. Thanks for the video.
I made a motorcycle trip from Casper WY to Cody..over Beartooth Pass to Red Lodge MT and had planned to make it to the Black Hills this same weekend. On the way through Joliet MT it was 103 degrees. I cut the Black Hills part of the trip off to make it back to Casper before this winter storm hit. Glad you both made it through safely
There have been many major snow storms in the Hills that were only supposed to be a dusting. You guys definitely had the right attitude. Can't do much about it just have to deal with it. Plus you have one heck of a memory.
I live in NE. I'd rather deal with brushing the snow off the bike rather than dealing with layers of ice in every crevice. If you have just a little extra room anywhere a lightweight cover might be a good investment. 👍😎
Hey There , Thanks for the video. I have been touring on my bike for a while now. As a matter of fact I got my first Time Out camper in 1977. Didn't see many trailers behind motorcycled way back then... Got to say I got lots of attention ... Always had a audience while setting up. I always got out of that part of the country know later than the second week in August. The first time I didn't was a real adventure. LoL I'm so glad that equipment has gotten better sense 1969. I still love what I do and hope to be able to do it for a while. You two be safe and enjoy this adventure. Looking forward to seeing your next video. Holler if you need anything. Your friend. Billy
We live in South Dakota and were actually in Rapid City the day it snowed. We got another snow in October but it all melted shortly and don't have any now. It was very nice until a couple of days ago when the temps went down to normal. Great trip you guys are on!! Be safe.
Need to remember that if I'm ever in the Dakotas in September. I've ridden in the 20s to 30s several times, but the Carolinas aren't much for snow, at least where I live. Maybe it's because I hike for most of my camping, but that seemed like a rather larger tent for two people. Hope you warmed up soon after the snow melted off some.
I am from Canada, and my go to for winter months is Haley Hanson Base layer. Will make the temperature feel about 10 degrees warmer than it is. It is expensive but will last for years. I have been thinking of doing an extended trip through Europe (6 months a year), multi year trip. Trying to mine your channel for every idea i can get.
While stationed in IL, we had a few of us that rode year around. We worked the late shift, and got caught a few times riding home in a snowstorm. As long as you were able to make your own tracks, no problem. Get in a car track, and it was difficult to control the bike.
I bet you never thought you would be making a real winter wonderland video in September. Well done and great host at the camp ground. Cheers of and by the way was that a bottle of Jack on the table. Now that will keep you warm LOL Take care
February 2020 was the year we saw 4" of snow that stayed near the gulf coast of Texas. One night got down to 8 degrees. Not even sure if Florida was warm.
why not put your tent in the shelter during the rain ? btw: if all else fails to lite, use potato chips. When as a kid, I used them when winter camping in the snow and had to dry fire wood. The potato chips made the difference
@@TwoWheelsBigLife These days I find I camp solo and motorcycle tour solo or with mates. My wife and I do however love campervan touring. I can just imagine floating to her the idea of ‘getting back to our roots’ and showing her your video. Or not.....
Thanks for reinforcing my preference to always book a cabin or motel room anytime after late Aug early Sept when traveling past 40 degrees north. I usually carry too much gear I think, one set for cold & one for warm/hot. But the heavy winter gear has come in handy many times when the bike wind chill was single digits in MT and two days later 110 F in Amarillo. Nice report from you guys.
Some day when your sitting in your rocking chairs you will think back to this adventure, and laugh. Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it. yes we will
Im younger but your wife is a trooper......Alot of these young gals couldnt hang. Stay safe guys. If you got room to pack get yourself a "lil buddy" to heat the tent if you need it..One of those cans goes 8 hours.

That’s a great idea but we are not there now because this was in the first week of September. We are warm now for sure.
@@TwoWheelsBigLife That is good to hear.
you guys are truly living the dream. The adversity just makes for more amazing memories . You both are truly blessed with each other and with a life full of adventure in this marvelous creation.

Okay! I am from Minnesota. I have winter camped on cross country skis. I recommend Down Booties! Don't take up much room but makes a huge difference!
Thanks for the information - will have to check out down booties. We haven't heard about them.
I have heard that.
That’s quite an adventure you will never forget! At least things seemed to have worked out 😉 . Stay safe you two👍✌️😉
Thanks a bunch.
I love love your channel! I’m a life long motorcycle rider and just really enjoy your videos!
Unfortunately that is South Dakota for you. We left the Black Hills exactly 1 month before and it was perfect. Amazing the difference in a months weather. But as all of us bikers say, "It's one more road trip story!" You'll laugh about it later! But you guys made a good call on the cabin. Enjoyed your video as usual!
thanks
I would definitely invest in a cheap bike cover to carry their light and can fold up pretty small to keep all inclements of weather off when not riding especially the UV light good video i enjoyed it safe journeys !
Right on
I was in Colorado a week AFTER a freak early snow storm.
Stay Safe! 👍👍
Thanks Nelio Cheers!!
You two are amazing. Stay safe and as warm as you can get.
Thanks
1.) we did get prepared. 2.) No I didnt Ms Alice has been reliable with Starting. I have a new battery also.
Right on
I made a motorcycle trip from Casper WY to Cody..over Beartooth Pass to Red Lodge MT and had planned to make it to the Black Hills this same weekend.
The ice thawed out the next day. This was recorded in September. Two days later it was 70!
@@TwoWheelsBigLife Sounds like you're almost ready for New England. 😀 I really enjoy watching your journey. Keep up the good work and attitudes. 👍😎
Thanks David. Cheers
I remember waking up to what I thought was a mild blizzard one year the first week of October in Williams Arizona.
Brilliantly entertaining video. Stay safe and warm. ROD UK.
Glad you enjoyed it
Remind me of my youth ,searching the bike under an snowblanket in the morning to drive to work .Somtimes I found the nabors bike or a trashcan first.

Be safe.
Yes this was an early storm Just a flury was predicted 🤣🤣. I think SD's fulry is different than other places 🤣🤣
When life gives you lemons... make an igloo!
Wishing you favor and safety on your journey!👍
Most laughs ever. Thanks. You’ll be huge you tubers. Don’t give up.
I've knocked snow off my quad when ice fishing but never on my road glide. That must have been a weird experience.
It was. it was forecast as a flury 🤣🤣
You guys are fantastic! I love your positive attitude!
Thanks a bunch !!
Thanks Magic Man. I hope we glean info to you.
daaamn. please be careful out there. gotta love your attitude!
Very symphatic video. Had fun watching it. Greetings from Germany.
You are learning fast. It would not be a motorcycle trip if it went perfect. I’m a believer in bike covers on every trip.
Yes, we thought about bike covers when we first set out. Unfortunately we just don't have the room for them.
Yes great host and yes on the Jack 🤣🤣
February 2020 was the year we saw 4" of snow that stayed near the gulf coast of Texas. One night got down to 8 degrees. Not even sure if Florida was warm.
Yes this was a freak storm.
why not put your tent in the shelter during the rain ? btw: if all else fails to lite, use potato chips. When as a kid, I used them when winter camping in the snow and had to dry fire wood. The potato chips made the difference
I have an umbrella on my bike. comes in handy when you're loading the bike and can't put the covers on the bags until they're strapped down.
I'm glad you got a cabin...I would have taken down the tent..how about covers for the motorcycles?
Did you guys ever go to Florida for the winter.
why you also check the RADAR to see what is going on around you to asses what is POSSIBLEY coming your way
The worst experiences always make the most enjoyable memories.👍👍
So true, Larry!!
You’re both clearly barking bonkers mad. Completely love it 👍 Respect from England.
Glad you enjoyed it
@@TwoWheelsBigLife These days I find I camp solo and motorcycle tour solo or with mates. My wife and I do however love campervan touring. I can just imagine floating to her the idea of ‘getting back to our roots’ and showing her your video. Or not.....
@@mn1k174 maybe don't show the Stranded video first. 🤣🤣
Happy to help!
rain, turns to snow at 38 degrees ( really) depending on the elevation. VA, TN, AL, last year, snowed heavy, that was a fun ride.
