  • My compressor kept filling until the pressure relief valve would blow. I show how I replaced the pressure cut off switch and got the compressor back into service. Part Number: N003307SV
The aftermarket part I used: amzn.to/3Pw0Cvl
The OEM porter cable part: amzn.to/39Cv3PW

Great video! You edited out the unimportant or repetitive parts and left in your mistakes. That's so refreshing on TH-cam, almost nobody does that. When they edit out the difficult parts or their mistakes it leaves the viewer feeling like an idiot because they struggled or made a mistake. Thanks!

I have the exact same problem! Mine is an older style, so I think I will replace it with a new unit on wheels. At 70, you get tired of lugging the thing around! I will repair it and pass it down to one of my kids!! Thanks for the great video.

Hmm. You managed to use the word "hysteresis" in a DIY video - that might be the most impressive thing you have done in a while :-). My older PC 6gal pancake compressor has the same issue. I got the unit from a local guy who knew his days were numbered, so he asked me over to his place a few years ago so that I could haul away a bunch of tools he hadn't managed to sell. The compressor will not turn off around the 120-130 psi mark, as it should, but it will turn on around the 100-110 psi mark, as it should, so it partly works. It's an older model, but I expect the repair part you purchased will do the job, but I'll open it up first and verify. Thanks for putting the time and info into making the video!

I have a newer model of this unit. Having the exact same issue: pressure builds until relief valve goes. For a job (homeowner) today, I just let pressure get high enough to run my nailers, turned it off. Shot my nails and turned it on when it lost 8-10lbs to get it back to required, turned it off and finished the job. Gonna check my model# and do the repair. It would seem such a sucker's buy to toss this thing and buy another one. I don't use it much but, it makes finish nailing so much easier, it's worth having. Thanks.

Nice video of the internals of the compressor. it was a great help figuring out where the sensor/switch is. Mine was doing the same thing, but I was able to fix by removing the line that goes to the pressure switch and the spraying electric contact cleaner down the rubber hose towards the switch. Seemed to have done the trick. Thanks for the help.

Great job saved me $100+ . Worked perfectly. I didn't tuck in power cord correctly and the fan ripped through them but that was an easy fix .

I picked up that identical one at a flea market and it turned out to be garbage!
They are designed not to be adjusted or repaired.
I looked for parts online and they were hard to find and hard to get.
It is also one of the hardest pancake air compressors to open up.

Wow I had the EXACT same problem. Thank you for showing this! By the way, I basically have three types of power tools, almost everything. Milwaukee, Makita, and Porter Cable. EVERY tool I’ve had from this Porter Cable company has failed! The other two have been flawless forever. I’m almost ready to write them a nasty letter like a grumpy old man. On this compressor alone, the connections leak, the drain is a nightmare, the knobs require the strength of a lowland gorilla to turn, and do nothing anyways. I hate this bloody thing. I’ll NEVER buy another product from this company.

I have been a long time Porter Cable fan. I just put a new weight in a sander that I've had for 30 years and it is as good as new. You'll also see me occasionally using a PC cordless drill that I've had for 25 years. That said, this compressor really denigrates the PC brand. I think they just slapped the name on some generic model.

Try putting some air tool oil into the intake of the pump, it'll help the piston sealing and the valves. You'd have to try accessing it with a tube through the housing slots because it's internal without any filter housing or anything.

Robb I have the same compressor I want to ask you how many different sizes of tork drivers did it take to dissemble the housing.

Actually I was kind of crabby because I had another one that failed when I was in the middle of a construction project so I just got rid of it and got another one. You can imagine I was pissed when this one starting failing too. I had more time this time so I thought there had to be a bunch of people that were seeing this if it happened to me twice. I really like Porter Cable tools but I think only the label is actually Porter Cable:-)
