Hi SR, bit of info, if you get a tick, tick, tick from the top end it’s not necessarily the cam chain tensioner, or a valve needing shimming, very often on these it’s a header leaking at the joint with the head, it makes a very metallic “tick” that sounds very much like a tappet, best way to check is get a length of flexible pipe and put it to your ear like a stethoscope, then put the other end to each header joint and you’ll hear if any of them are leaking, cheers Mark.
Hi Mark, thanks for mentioning that, it could well be the exhaust manifold as the whole system is a bit rough bar the end can. I'll have a closer inspection. As a matter of course I'm planning to check the valves as I suspect they're well due on this bike. If I'm lucky I'll be able to pick up a stainless exhaust to sort that out too. I best pull my finger out if I want to be riding it this year!
