Ocarina of Time - End Credits Theme - Orchestral Cover

- In honor of the 15th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I present an all-new fully remastered, orchestrated version of the End Credits theme, played on modern cinema-quality sounds (not a MIDI).
Download in mp3 320: / ocarina-of-time-end-cr...
WIP of more fully orchestrated version: www.dropbox.co...
While Koji Kondo's soundtrack is one of the most memorable in game history, the N64 had two hardware limitations that affected the complexity of the music he could compose for it: a limited number of voices, and limited ROM space in which to store instrument sounds. These limitations forced the great game composers of old to make up for the lack of fancy, perfectly-mastered sounds by composing catchy and often brilliant melodies. However, now we have the best of both worlds, and redoing a classic piece in modern sounds is both a fun musical exercise and a fitting tribute to the game and the whole Zelda series.
This arrangement was created in REAPER and rendered with EastWest / Quantum Leap sound libraries. It consists of nearly thirty different virtual instrument tracks, which take 11 GB of RAM to play in real time and represent access to over 100 GB of sample data. The process of creating this arrangement consisted of transcribing the notes, precisely synchronizing the tempo (in the slow sections, the tempo is continuously changing!), and then making the "artistic decisions" of what additional parts to add to fill out the arrangement. I began with a very literal transcription, and as the piece builds, gradually enhanced the arrangement until it was a whole orchestra by the final chords.
For those who are curious, the "dinga dinga" in the Saria's Song section is a santoor, and the "goron dog bark" is a cuica (friction drum).
At the time I never understand the final picture, but just a few years ago I see it... and is a bit sad, knowing that Link went through all this and when he returned to his actual time, no one in that present remembers anything of those events that he had to fight, carrying with all the responsibility and courage on him, he goes again and meet Zelda, so that everything that he lived will not be repeated, making The Hero of Time ceases to exist.
Yeah thats a masterpiece.
This is probably the best video game ending theme of all time.
I agree! :)
Is your body ready to hear this song cuz mine is
Eh, I've heard better (like the X & Y theme), but HOT MAMA this theme's up there! And this guy made it even better!
It really is
word
This song always makes me sad. Why? Because it reminds me of one of the best video games of all time coming to an end. Like finishing a book you really liked. You're glad that you finished, but sad that it's over.
Of course! That's part of the magic. :)
i just love this game ive beaten it 12 times and it never gets old and i always tear up at the end.
This is spot on! :( :)
MegaAstroFan18
I know this is years later . But it makes me sad because it makes
Me feel like I am leaving behind all the amazing stories in this game at the end . Like a good book, it is like your friends leave you behind lol
don't be sad because it's over, be happy because it happened.
This is what I imagine the party will look like when the pandemic ends.
:'(
Well, if EVER ends.
I cry every time at 4:50. Every damn time. 13 years from now I'm not going to look back on OoT's graphics, but the adventure it took me on!
Me too! :')
almost a 30 year old grown ass man yet this song makes me tear up everytime I hear it.
Thanks! Glad you liked it! :)
Ok?
holy crap, 6:01 RIGHT IN THE FEELS MAN. I remember crying my eyes out at the point when I first beat this game as a kid, like NOOO IT'S OVER!
You can make more than 1 account
I'm crying. I'm proudly crying.
Glad you enjoyed it!
no regrets
Yeah me too
A fitting end to the realization...
The 90s are over, its time for us to grow up now. But by hylia, was it a ride to remember
To the Soviet Union?
i never understand it when i was a kid, i start the game, and finish it over and over, seen that end, that final picture, my mind never cant put it clear at that time, but now i know it, somethings you only let them have to be
masterpiece
This is so beautiful, it is impossible to feel hate or anger when you listen to this. This is my definition of peace.
All these people saying Breath Of The Wild is better than Ocarina Of Time...no. No, i truly think no game will ever beat Ocarina Of Time. This game has a magic about it that will never, ever be surpassed or out triumphed. This game will live forever. Truly.
i love breath of the wild... it even found itself in my list of top 5 zelda games and is my most played.... however i put at number 2 which knocked down majoras mask to number 3 and if you need a hint on which one is still my number one... i constantly wear the ocarina of time tunic in breath of the wild :P. ocarina of time is a game that i will love forever theres no exceptions to it i always go back to it and replay it and i cant get enough.
Ocarina of time is THE BEST Zelda game that means IS THE BEST GAME OF THE HISTORY
true, but here’s a counterpoint: camera controls
It’s better
It's because everything here was combined to almost perfection, you have the music, the gameplay, the story, a good distribution of the map and one of the best rewards you could get on any game, that beautiful ending.
That was made with pure and absolute passion.
I remember being a kid, watching this play for the first time. I was so hopeful that there would be more after the credits; that another adventure, of any kind, would take the place of the first. When the screen froze on “End”, I was upset. Now that I’m older, I feel like its genius to end this game on that note. An end that feels like an ending, an ending earned.
Damn good game.
I love how this song starts in the beginning it sounds like you want someone to forgive you good job on it
Hmm. I never thought of it that way. I guess Zelda wants Link to forgive her for ruining his life. And thanks!
Sauraen Thanks for the comment I'm glad you liked what I said forgiveness is a strong emotion to me :)
This, kids, is how you make the best game ever.
Man, can't keep myself from crying.
*RIGHT IN THE FEELS*
My first time completing the game was only about a year ago, and I was 15, not exactly the age associated with nostalgia. Especially if it's only a year later. But Zelda somehow has an amazing way of giving me those type of feels even when it's new to me. My whole childhood there was a family PC and no console, so it was quite recent that I decided to try out these games... possibly one of the best decisions I've ever made. xD
An awesome arrangement of awesome music. Brought tears to my eyes, especially with the Child timeline scenes. :)
The first time I completed the game was in '99 when I was 8 miserable years old. As part of the nostalgia team here...I warmly welcome you to the feels yard :D
***** Yay! :D
I also didn't have games through much of my childhood; I got my first console, a N64, in 2005, at the age of 13, with Yoshi's Story (because I convinced my parents Yoshi eating fruit was sufficiently non-violent). A few months I got Super Mario 64 and was introduced to the world of 3D gaming (almost 10 years late). Then I got Ocarina of Time, and my life was changed forever. :) I saw more beauty in the real world because of how much of it was reflected in the game. Ten years later, it still has a place in my life; I spent much of last year working on software that would let me import and export music from the game, and with that I composed some music in the game engine (see my other videos). No shame if you're "late to the party"--I'm sure the game will still be played 50 years from now, if not 500. (It's still the #1 game of all time on Metacritic, the only game with a score of 99). Here's hoping Zelda HD is equally amazing!
Sauraen They definitely had the right idea when making Ocarina of Time. You see so many games made now that seem impressive in the moment because of the technology that's become available, but a truly great game is one that, like Ocarina of Time, stays in people's hearts long after the graphics and things are out-of-date, because the focus was on the things that last.
It's fitting that the game deals with time and things changing, because it's a game that stands the test of time.
Did you know how novels used to be thought of as a waste of time and had no lasting value? Look how everyone's encouraged to read books now. I hope that in the future people come to see video games in that way, and Ocarina of Time could honestly be one of those classics that people are encouraged to play at some point in their life.
The Legend of Zelda is actually one of the main things that inspired me to want to be an animator. I'd tried out 3D game design before, but creating a 3D game as a whole is pretty complicated. After playing the N64 Zelda games I decided the part I wanted to focus on was animation.
Haha I wrote a bit of an essay. :P
Animation is what brings life to a game, not graphics. OoT was one of the first games to use motion-captured animations, so the characters seemed realistic even if you could clearly see the polygons. Even all the NPCs breathe!
I just beat this game today and you know what I can see why many view this as one of the greatest games of all time and why some say the greatest an enjoyable story, superb gameplay and soundtrack and an unforgettable final boss battle all and all I think this game deserves all the praise it gets.
I started my game file when I was 10 and played this game on and off for years. As a kid I was more fascinated by exploring the world rather than doing the dungeons but I did manage to get to adult Link. I didn't pick the game back up until I was a teen and then tried doing the temples. I got half of them done and then stopped playing again. I picked it back up again at 20 and then finished it that same year. I quite literally started the adventure as a kid and ended it as an adult, just like Link. When this moment happened (5:22-6:26), it was like I was watching my 10 year old self walk away from that very sword I pulled as a 10 year old, and I just lost it emotionally. No game has ever done that to me. And right now with this beautiful orchestral version, I'm bawling my eyes again. I know this video is 8 years old already but thank you so much anyway for this masterpiece of a cover. If they make another remake of Ocarina (which I believe they will since we're coming up on a 25 year milestone since the game came out), it needs to have this cover. It really brings out the intense feelings someone should feel when completing this game. Incredible game.
This might seem odd but this brought tears to my eyes. I remember the first time I beat this game and I cried because I didn't want it to end. And you sir have just made me re experience that again, and I thank you. ;)
Thanks! I had a similar experience with this game; it was only the third video game I ever played (after Yoshi's Story and Super Mario 64--what a progression!). Hearing this song and watching the credits was a fitting reward for beating what is still among the very best final acts of any game I've ever played.
If you're in the mood for more feels, though, this is only an orchestral transcription of the original piece, with few additions and little fleshing out. I've been working on a more complete version--in the style of ZREO's fabulous Twilight Symphony--starting from where I left off here, and intended as a more complete finale to the game. I'm adding a link in the description to a WIP version of this if you're interested. (Of course it'll be even better when it's done!)
its not odd.. perfectly normal.. now excuse me i need to punch the ninjas cutting onions.
This is it! This is the best orchestral version of any song I have ever heard, without a doubt! Thank you so much :)
I finished the game a couple weeks ago. By far the most saddest/happiest/I dont know what to do with my life anymore, ending credit song in my life. by far the best song ive ever heard.
Koji Kondo knew he was composing the end credits song for a masterpiece, so he had to make the music fitting. It's my favorite game end credits song as well, though Twilight Princess's is a close second. Both take you through a variety of emotions appropriate to what you just accomplished, as well as the events being portrayed during the credits. It's a simple restatement of themes you've loved from the game, but with a bit of a grander twist, and then a big finish.
Such a timeless adventure. 😌
A lake placed in my eyes
Good job, makes it sound like a movie. Almost teared up, but since I don't cry while watching videos (usually), this means that you successfully recreated the feels. Very good.
I want this to play at my future wedding
Awwww!
It's... so amazing. I'm crying. Fuck, I only had the game 1 month ago and I completed it yesterday. I don't know why I'm crying. :') Probably it's about how much I enjoyed the game... You captured well around 4:50. And that part where Navi flies off... I was like "Why are you going away? No... don't go away please! Navi..."
I cried a little the first time I beat OoT as well. And I also loved Navi by the end of the game! Not only is the ending sequence amazing on its own, it's absolutely central to the series. Getting the Master Sword knocked out of your hands creates one branching timeline; Zelda sending you back in time creates another; and even the little detail of Navi flying away is the reason for Majora's Mask... all in the last half hour of this game. It's my favorite track from one of the best games of all time. Savor the experience of beating it for the first time--you won't get another like this for a long time! (Also, if you're interested, there's a link in the description to an even better version of this I'm working on.)
Yeah :3 Thanks for making this! I just wished I could forget the first time I played OoT and play it the first time, 1 month ago. But there's no way to do it... =( The first time will never happen again
Is this your first experience playing Zelda? If so, I'd recommend Twilight Princess next, IMHO it has the most of that "feel" that OoT has. Or if you're in the mood for something a little different, but deeper and more mature, go for Majora's Mask.
Sauraen OoT was my first Zelda game. :P I started playing Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess, but Majora's Mask seems more interesting than Twilight Princess. Probably because I'm constantly getting lost in Forest Temple...
Majora's Mask is amazing, one of the most genuinely mature games ever made. If you feel too much pressure from the speed of time, talk to the scarecrow, and follow his advice--never mind that he doesn't teach you the song, you already know the song! That's all I'll say. Enjoy!
Damn dude, you did an incredible job on this. Time has not been kind to the MIDI sound banks in the original OST. This is more like what they were going for! You ought to give more pieces from the soundtrack this same treatment.
I somehow missed this at the time! 'tis amazingly well done!
Beautiful work with an epic ending :)
I finished the 3d version today when i was watching the credits i was crying
It seems to have that effect on a lot of people!
5:53 knowing you can’t stop her...
Great job👍 in the same spirit of the original! If you notice the note at 6:05 is the same note of the ending of Star Fox 64. Next year it would be 20 years when i was kid playing this game, i will never forget simply the best game i ever done on my entire life.
Best version ever, congrats !
Thanks!
Well... Im subscribing... just a thing... Beautiful.
How I never watch this before?
Glad you like it!
Such a well done piece :')
Epic, just like the masterpiece of a game!
Amazing. Thank you.
Mytomspunnen1 You're welcome! Glad you liked it. :)
I like this a lot! :)
Thanks! :)
Sounds good. Makes it sound like a movie. Speaking of, pause it at 2:54, mute it, then overdub it with The Victory Celebration/End Title from Return of the Jedi (the special edition). It syncs up remarkably well.
Thanks! :D
I don't have the Star Wars special edition OST, but I know which song you're talking about. If I remember correctly, it is in the same key and has a similar rhythm, though a different chord progression. It's always cool to find places where different songs fit together!
I know I am very late, but I tried it, and it sounds wonderful. Mental image of adult Malon singing with villagers in head created. Thank you.
At least until the part where the actual end title plays. Navi flying away to that cheerful music... it doesn't quite fit the mood for me.
Beautiful!
Wow! You really pulled out all the stops for this one! I hope this is used if Ocarina of Time is remade for the Switch.
There's no chance of that, but thanks!
@@Sauraen Dang... Well, I may use this remix in my Mystery Dungeon series at some point when it's animated. I also noticed in the description that you're remaking the song "more fully orchestrated" as you called it. I gave it a listen & was blown away. Do you intend to upload it to TH-cam soon? Or is it still a work in progress?
@@theadventurechu4546 Ah, no, I haven't worked on this in years. A few years ago I sent a more developed version of the WIP version to Eric Buchholz, to use as the base for the end credits arrangement on Hero of Time (an OoT album played by a real orchestra). He did use it, but he made a lot of changes, so there's not really much that I personally contributed to the final arrangement that was recorded. But his is still a good version, I'd encourage you to check the album out if you haven't already!
@@Sauraen Oh! OK then. I'll see what it's like.
3:44
I watched this on my 3ds and it was buetiful
I love ocarina of time- 3ds and N64 (I have both)
4:16 the best part...
i highly recommend nintendo get permission from you to use this piece if they ever remaster ocarina of time for the wii u... this is incredible..
Thanks! :D But I think it's more of a question of me getting permission from Nintendo... they did write the piece in the first place, you know... Oh, and you do realize they're not going to remaster Ocarina of Time for Wii U, right? They've already remade it for the 3DS. And HD game development takes lots of time, that's why we're getting Majora's Mask 3D and not Majora's Mask HD.
La pura esencia de nintendo, nostalgia en su máximo estado. Hace 20 años espero un final que lo iguale.
Muchas gracias!
Wow, 11 GB of RAM :'c, my computer only supports 1.5gb RAM per song.
So you transcribed the song by ear right? I make that too and I know it takes a lot of time. But this one is HUGE. and I notice you've put a lot of effort in the effects, and instrument selecting.
I really love your work :)
+Twoopliss(lezg_g) Yep, 11GB! Though that's not the most I've used, this song soundcloud.com/sauraen/xenogears-final-convergence-4 used 25GB on the final stages before and during rendering.
Yes, I transcribed this by ear. Since then I've made software that will let me extract MIDIs from Ocarina of Time and other N64 games, so some of my work on Ocarina of Time 2D was not transcribed by ear.
Thank you! :)
Immer!
MY FEEEEELSSSS

So sad not even Navi remembered anymore...
I'm late but, she remember it all, she leave crying knowing that she had to forget about Link so the future they went trough could not be a possibility, both need to disappear, Link takes the Ocarina of Time and leave Hyrule not just because of Navi, but because that close any chance of the Sacred Realm to be used for evil.
Also Link is a Hylian not a Kokiri, she cannot stay with him for much that both wish for, is actually an even sadder ending.
Im sad because i dont want the game to end ;-;
I was aware that the Goron growl was a cuica (thanks to Wii Music), but I've never heard of a santoor.
Look it up--it's similar to a dulcimer.
Heroic warrior departure⚔️🛡❤️
Back when Zelda had epic music
Oh, it still has epic music! It just only plays when you're actually doing something epic, rather than all the time.
Buen cover
Muchas gracias!

On to master quest...
No matter how you look at it, sampled sounds - no matter how good - are no different from a MIDI. There's no way to digitally reproduce the real sound of an orchestra.
Not speaking for myself here, and certainly not for this video since I wasn't that skilled at it back then, but I've heard sampled orchestral music that I couldn't tell was virtual. If you have a very big budget and lots of time, you can make the two indistinguishable. I had a chat with Theophany (the guy who made the Majora's Mask Time's End albums) about whether the Breath of the Wild trailers were played on a real orchestra or not. We agreed that we couldn't tell. I think the first one was virtual and the most recent one was real, but I could be wrong.
If you play on the account that you already beat infinite ganons and endings!! XD
god help us if anyone dislikes this
The only final song that can compete with this one is Peace from Avatar: The Last Airbender
Thanks! Was recently introduced to that one and it is really something!
Sauraen dude, you HAVE to watch Avatar. It's honestly, sincerely, the best show. It's incredibly deep and emotional, and the ending will leave you so at peace and hopeful!
6:06
It's over?
Is it just me or dose the screen freeze at the end
You mean when it goes into sepia (tinted black-and-white)? That's supposed to happen, that's how it is in the game.
Well I almost beat the game i'm in the spirit temple STILL
Well now I know that places sage....
You forgot the scarecrow song at the real end though
That's true, but given that it's player-composed, it could be anything!
Could you try Ballad of the wind fish (links awakening) PLSPLSPLS
Already did that one! soundcloud.com/sauraen/melodies-of-mabe-village-3-9
This remix is actually actually greenlisted for acceptance onto OC ReMix (ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2819), so hopefully it will be published soon!
You F**ing legend...........
any chance of getting the 320??
Actually, yes: www.dropbox.com/s/a72oxsox6qz5rlz/Sauraen%20-%20Melodies%20of%20Mabe%20Village-%20Final%20Full%20320.mp3 You even get to hear the version without the fadeout at the end!
I'm not much of a legend yet, but hopefully some day! ;)
That is so weird the great deku tree sprout didn't grow yet why?
The ice in Zora's Domain didn't melt either. It's almost like this isn't the true ending of the game...
Für Zelda und hyrule.
Then their was three... timeline
Tawasiel 2008 Only two from this video, the third one occurred if the player lost to Ganon in the final battle after the Master Sword was knocked from Link's hands.
Yea I guess you were right!
Actually wait, if link was sent back in time before he met zelda, does that mean their is two Links in the child timeline. I been confused with that, so maybe you won't mind answering my question?
Tawasiel 2008 I don't think it's any different than every other time he traveled back in time with the Master Sword--there weren't a bunch of other Links running around from the previous (and future!) times you were there. The timeline split is actually in the child era, after he was sent back and when he warns Zelda (in fact the final moment you see here). This is because by warning her, he prevents the events of the seven years from happening, which in turn prevents him from coming back to warn her, and that's the paradox--thus a second timeline branches off. The "adult" timeline has no Link, it's what you see in the Lon Lon Ranch party at the end; the next we see of the "child" timeline is after Link has warned Zelda and Ganondorf has been captured, Link wanders into the woods in search of Navi, and we have Majora's Mask.
Ok, now I'm seeing the picture. Yea the child timeline is somewhat separate from the unified timeline. Thanks for the clear up, just got one more question. Do you think nintendo should explore the hero of time link again one day? Maybe clear some things up on what happened to him after MM because if he is dead like the theory say, then talk about a tragic hero story or just leave it to the imagination?
