These are the kind of tips folks need. You don't need the most expensive equipment to get great footage. Just need to REALLY know how to use what you have. Well done, Nigel.
Am glad i came across his channel before starting TH-cam earlier this year. i would have been bent on acquiring all the cool gears and never shoot anything
@@Delali Totally agree. Nigel shoots on a GH3 which many folks would say just isn't good enough yet his footage looks amazing. All about knowing your gear.
@@GeraldBertramPhotography Haha. Truth be told am also trying hard to get a new laptop for editing. My current one is introducing too many delays into my work flow
Nigel - I love your content. The ego-less way you present information and the way you genuinely seem to care make you one of my favorite youtubers out there. Thanks for doing what you do!
I'm sitting here reminiscing about the first time I saw this video. I wanted to use the window trick on my used Panasonic g7 so bad - so, I setup an interview shot by a window at a wedding the next morning and I felt so smug. I can't explain how good it was to hand the finished video off to the couple, knowing that I had tried something new on that gig and it panned out. I use it so often, it's an unconscious habit at this point. Little tricks like that open up a person's mind to discover bigger concepts that allow us to problemsolve more efficiently. So, again, thanks, Nigel. You are making a difference 🤙
These are actually some great hacks, and not some BS that a lot of people do to get views!! I love the simplicity that you always implement in your videos, which makes all of this practical and believable. Thanks mate!
Yes your are free at behind a camera. I just started doing TH-cam and I’ve starting to take your tips seriously. Soon as I get the cash flow for it. I will be getting the set up. Great job on the videos you inspire me so much
I appreciate most about you and your content is that you cater for the people with small budgets. Not throwing any shade but some other people talk EOS Rs and Aputure lights like they’re within everybody’s budget. You inspire me to work with what I have. Respect bro, keep up the great work
Man I love that dynamic range hack, sometimes the most obvious things to do is not that obvious just need someone to nudge sometimes to point it out 👍👍
I really don't understand how your channel isn't above a million subs ! People out there are really missing out on the good stuff ! Keep them videos coming man ! Thanks !
Have recently come across your videos and im learning insane amounts. Just started a cooking channel with my phone just to motivate myself to do it. Have a GH3 ordered and cant to take on all your tips ! Thanks man!
I clicked “like” prematurely before the video even started based on the title...after watching the entire video I wish there was a “love” button. Thank you for the valuable insights bro. I appreciate you.
I watched your video about mobile filming and used your ideas to produce the videos for my channel. I love your videos. they are well structured and easy to follow. I'm still not great at filming but i keep learning from your videos and soon i will achieve the type of scene you have in this video for my channel. thanks brother
I’ve been flirting with Skillshare for a bit - no longer! Muito obrigado for the free 2 months 🤙🏻 love your videos - to the point, accessible for those of us who don’t have loads of cash sitting around to just buy whatever we want, and fun to watch. Thank you!
Thank you Nigel! Your channel is a great source of inspiration for my career. I really appreciate your simplicity and the way you present some pro hacks. Keep up the good job bro. Love from Belgium 👌
Wanted to let you know. I have followed a ton of your videos. Bought a GH3 and now im filming my wife's pre TH-cam videos, can't wait to share with you. Keep up the amazing work . I couldn't be at my current level of capabilities without these budget friendly tips! Is patreon the best way to support this channel directly?
Hi Nigel. Your dynamic range tip is hilarious. I have used that a few time in my professional work, where I needed some help with the background or if I was editing a story and the videographer was struggling with the background. Anyways I thought I was the only one that used that tip, so that's funny. I edit on Avid at work so it is a bit more difficult to do this tip. Thanks, great video.
1 - Let the ads run 2 - Hit the like button 3 - Enjoy another great relaxing video by Nigel. Have you thought about trying a little b-roll type of video à la Daniel Shiffer? I'd be interested to see what you come up with. I think the GH3 does 1080p/120fps doesn't it?
For once hacks that don't sound silly, that's practical and real works great. Thank you sir. I'm glad I found your channel. Your channel is a great example that you don't need crazy gear to have an amazing channel
Thanks for the hacks Nigel. Like the reverse 60 frames per second :) Just signed up for my free 2 month premium Skillshare trial, so thanks for that :) Big up ;)
I like the negative fill/shower curtain stand you put together. I pretty much have all the pieces to build one myself! Another way you can get more dynamic range in camera for a situation like that is to use a higher ISO. Higher ISO?? Yep, you get more range in the highlights. So you could film at 1600 or so on you GH3 and use a few ND’s to cut down the light. Combine that with a brighter indoor light to compete outdoors and boom! No masks! How much range you get will vary on your camera, but on the bmpcc 4K and S1H it’s pretty significant, just don’t go to the second native iso if your camera has dual native ISO
Your videos have helped me greatly in getting set up. You’re by far the best when it comes to maximising working with what you have. From lighting, framing, audio and other little hacks. Brilliant! All on a realistic budget. Not one where I’m required to purchase a $20k Gold plated tripod to stabilise my footage 😂🤓
I was hella surprised to see the scene you created using the iPhone 6 and moment app. that was awesome. i used that idea to create the "How to make a light box" video on my channel. keep up the great work
This was an excellent video. Tip 4 I will be using for sure in my astrophotography videos. I took you up on the Skillshare thing too mate. Can't think of a better time to pick up some new tricks. :)
Nice! Useful tips bro! I like the curtain rod and magic rod ideas. Thanks for sharing and I subbed! We’re just starting out so anything to streamline the process and space is really nice. -Tuan
hey nigel, We can mask the mocrophone too...... as u did it with the window........ First just put the mic as close to ur subject and then mask it out with the original scene.. will it work???
i love your vids, nigel. im just an average guy using my android (samsung galaxy j7 prime) for my camera (which is kindda sad coz i can't get what others can with better smartphone cameras and actual mirrorless... and other cheap stuff i can save money and buy. i can't follow other channels because they usually talk about gears and tools that... for them may be affordable, but not to me, so most of what i have and do are DIYs.

One of the most underrated film maker on this platform...love these hacks nigel

Gerald Bertram Photography true that. You had a gear acquisition syndrome too?
@@Delali Oh I still have a touch of it! But at least now it's mostly constrained to lenses.

Clamp on light stand = sound deadening + MASSIVE diffuser! Why have I never thought of this!? YOU"RE A GENIUS!!

Also, loved my GH3 until it got stolen, was watching my footage the other day, still holds up super well.
