I live in Melbourne and my cousin lived in Townsville in Far North Queensland, about 2500km distance. Many times I would hop in my station wagon and make the drive listening to Slim, Troy, Adam and others, all on cassette in those days. Once on the way home around late 1978, I stopped at a truck stop for the night to be greeted by the Slim Dusty trucks and rigs and got to spend the night with them, great friendly guys.
Knowing that you’re a fan of John Farnham, I think you’d love his country & western song “Talk of the Town”. It’s about farmers in a drought when they’re waiting for rain. It would go very well on that playlist you’re making that will include today’s song by Troy and Adam! 😊
This is a song that always leaves me disconcerted by the jolly smiles of artists when singing this song of foreboding and tragedy as the truck careers down the mountain. I think of the girl waiting at home, heart in her mouth as she watches the clock. It takes a special sort of courage and finely tuned reaction times to be a truckie. Hats off to them as they are the reason we have a supermarket full of fresh food, which we scan through the checkout without giving a single thought to how it got there.
Joy McKean (Mrs Slim Dusty) would endorse this version of the song she wrote for Slim. Despite the Southern twang in their delivery, the guys did this old Aussie song proud. And as you said, Mike, nice video.
Mike I just wanted to add without truckers whether it be in the USA, Australia or wherever we would have nothing without them. Almost everything we eat, wear or own at one stage was on a truck at some point. Give them respect and a bit of room out there on the highway.

its because of youtube videos on trucks that I've come to respect them and the drivers and not be annoyed by them, also loved the song and the singers

There is a truck convoy here in Qld every year called lights on the hill in regards to all the truckers that have lost their lives on the roads.
