I appreciate this video as I'm quite old and thinking about medicine again.
I agree, it's one of those careers you have to have a passion for.

@@frehatipu9187 you’re right. It’s an all in job. And if you’re not all in, it’ll take all of you!

I was that 4.0 kid… so the expectation was that I would go into medicine… dropped out of college a few times because I knew I didn’t want this but had no idea what else to do.
    In hindsight… definitely a good thing I didn’t go in this direction…

@@ri-oj1ul If you’re a 4.0 kid that loves the idea of being a doctor… then full send! If not, better to go find out what you love like it seems you’ve done.

@@RyanFightmasterMD oh I just liked puzzles… whoever thought medicine would be a good idea for me was just a complete idiot

That's interesting that your parents wanted you to go to school. Mine never would've let me do that. I think about maybe doing it when my parents die and my kids are older. Until then, medicine is just something that I study to keep my brain engaged and hopeful.

My situation was complicated no doubt. My parents had good reason to feel the way they did, but those weren't my reasons. Trying to understand my parents has helped me process the whole experience. Sounds like you've got a healthy approach to medicine. Never know where it might take you later!

Trying to understand my parents just reveals lots of negative prejudices and ignorant beliefs that they had. "You're going to go into a lot of debt and not make any money," "that's not appropriate for women to study science," "you're bad at everything," "women shouldn't be doctors," "it's dangerous," "you never did anything worthwhile," "if you were going to do something big then you would've done it already," "when the student is ready the master will appear," "cain't nobody do it for you, so if you wanted to do it, you would've just done it already without anyone's help," "if you want to be around sick people, you are sick," "only psychos want to cut people," "you have to be morally bankrupt to be part of the medical system," and lots more accusations that I'm mentally ill, yet they never once offered to take me to a psychiatrist. I have never been to one in my life, and hardly ever taken to a doctor, although they go to both psychiatrists and different kinds of physicians all the time. 🙃
