    Not surprised.
    I own and use them both quite a bit.
    In my exp the alpha air has a whole different rod action preference. Performing better with ul fast action trout bait casting rods. Further it does not respond well to an all out heave cast. Controlled smooth motion shorter casts with 2 (gram and less) baits is where it shines. I keep it on the Kuying teton ttc-510 and for bass the 6foot version (602l )light action which is still more of a jdm trout style bc. On more moderate ul to light/ml bfs rods it has this weird random dig in with flouro..like it dont really blow up it blows in...lol you will get loops that go deep into the spool. Causes me to run more brake than i would otherwise.
    Ive said before the 16 alderbaran is just a more versatile reel. Put it on a finetail b542ul and go trout fishing then mount it on the 7 foot old 18 ul supressor and fish 2.5 inch tubes and small ned rigs for smallies. The reel just performs consistently regardless.
    The alpha does not do as well on the 7ft reg action rod. The Aldebaran does fine on the trout rods. giving up only a few feet and some accuracy that u can compensate your cast for really.
    Appreciate the time you put in as always.
    FYI the alpha air did really well on those Tarantula rods from bait finesse empire. unfortunately the handles were kinda suspect otherwise id recommend em especially for the alpha air tw. I was casting donkey tail jrs on a 32nd head and detecting bottom contact crappies.

      I am very curious as to why his Aldebaran casts the tiny 1.7G lure 12.6 feet further than your Aldebaran with the same lure. Your Aldebaran casts the same distance as your Lingl which casts exactly the same distance as my Lingl (60 feet). Your cast distances and mine are the same. What is the magic that his Aldebaran is so much better than yours and better than my Lingl or DWU or BK2? I guess maybe you and I just can't cast as well as he does....

      @@jayludvigh6958 I'm guessing the 6lb line and 6'5' rod help get the distance like my Teton 6'6" does.. I can try the Shimano on my Teton with the 6lb suffix 832 braid and see if I can get more distance.. it's like I'm seeing in my testing that a longer heavier rod helps heavier spools in casting lighter Baits..
      I just need to figure out why the crazy light chameleon spools don't blow away the stock spools in the Shimanos..

    yes finally the ultimate test and with braid 0.2pe even thanks for doing it , i know it takes quite time to preparation , perfect conditions and lots of editing. Cheers !
    Judging from previous tests i guessed aldebaran would lead with 2.5-3gr lures but didnt think the difference would be so evident.
    only thing caught my attention in the test was im actually going lower on brakes like 4 on 2-3 gr lures on alphas air but to be fair im not focusing for distance casting and i use 0.3pe : whipping the rod in these break settings would probably cause immediate digging and would not be a practical test in the field.The settings should be as much as practical and convenient to be fishing
    Regarding braid ; how do you find braid casting compared to your routine 4lb mono ( i mean in general convenience not strictly in numbers ) , is it more problematic as you mentioned with braid digging and line breaking ( watching towards the end of the video i assume it is , i dont have much experience on mono so cant compare by myself i always use braid for saltwater ajing/mebaru and jigging and yes there are times when a simple mistake or lowering brakes too much causing digging issue and its a nightmare in saltwater which you have to tie up a leader on 0.3pe all over again )
    Apart form that do you think braid gives any substantial increase of distance ?
    Thank you.

    • @InfinityFishing
      @InfinityFishing 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@THEREELTEST yes that would be great , my guess is thin braid would give ease of casting ultralight weights like trout magnet but due to risks of digging require much experience
      On the other hand mono or fc would probably give better distance with heavier lures like 3-5 gr range ( despite the advantage of diameter of braid I believe on monos advantage in distance cause Japanese staff do their casting distance videos on mono all the time )

    A follow up on the crappie max cast reel!
    So I got the Crappie Max Cast reel from BPS while I waited for BFS Curado... Took some dialing to get it going, I put to much line on the spool(9lb braid to 6 lb fluoro)...I got to say it's respectable and comparable, so far on casting a 1/8 sausage jig and a bobby garland plastic . I will be going down on weight later when weather clears up to see how well it can keep up with the Curado. It's durability etc has yet to be seen! I predict anything to much lighter will suffer range more so then the BFS Curado! not a lot of budget options here in the USA, so I will keep using it along side the BFS Curado and keep some of yall posted!!

    @thereeltest I love Shimano bait casting reels. I have many JDM Shimano reels like Calcutta Conquest, Antares, Metanium, old Scorpion, and USDM Curado too. But today I prefer the Daiwa break system. The Daiwa SV spool + MagForce Z is amazing. The question is not about the distance, but about the casting control. The magnetic field from Magforce is active all the time, even zero position on the external dial. For this reason the Daiwa's spool spins a little bit less.
    Please, cast against the wind to know who will perform better... Or, do the vertical cast (to the sky direction) with no thumb to stop the spool. Let the spool stops by itself. I'm looking for this kind of casting control and I found it on the Daiwa SV + MagForce Z.
    I have a 2004 Daiwa Alphas 103L with Magforce V. It works like a charm!

    Great account of these, too reels! It was enjoyable to see the cold, hard facts in an epic cast battle. I own all of the reels that were featured in this video, and I agree with your results completely. I will say, however, the Alphas and the Gekkabijin do have an advantage on the trout stream, in my opinion. The Daiwa reels both cast with a much lower trajectory and more easily when making short to medium range casts. The lighter lures under 1/16 oz like the trout magnet, and others are cast easier by the Daiwa reels. I find the Aldebaran and LTX BF8 to be harder to fish in these settings based on the higher flight trajectory and the more energy needed to cast them. On open water, like at the lake or pond fishing for bass, the Aldebaran is my choice every time. I prefer the feel and build quality of the Aldebaran as well. It's obviously just my opinion in that area. If I'm using the Avail after-market spool in the Aldebaran, my opinion changes, and I will take this reel every time in all applications. As always, thanks for the great info, and we'll put together videos!!

      @arcuriotv6894 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @THE REEL TEST I agree completely. My older Aldebarans and Tailwalk Bf have centrifugal brakes, and they are flat casting. I just don't like the fickle nature of the brakes in the wind. The Tailwalk has very little adjustment capabilities, and the older Aldebarans get line caught inside the frame with light line. I wish I had reel with those brakes on a better platform.

    I own both, as well as the 17 Conquest BFS. I prefer the Alphas for ease of use, and I too throw trout magnets, weighted flies etc, in the local streams. Distance isn’t nearly as important as accuracy for me. The Alphas just feels better to me, in hand, and I’m more confident with it. However, I use the Conquest BFS over all of them. I know same brakes and everything as the Aldebaran, just housed differently. It comes down to feel again. I don’t backlash nearly as much with it vs the Aldebaran. I also use the conquest and the Alphas in the LA Harbor back bay. Both hold up well.
    As for distance, the Daiwa brake rotor is what kills their casting distance. It’s unsprung weight in particular. It takes more effort to move.
    Shimano reducing the spool diameter will definitely smoke the Alphas when it comes to casting 1g lures. However, I think it will ultimately have the same fate as the Alphas with heavier lures. While initial spool startup helps the lighter lure cast, higher RPM’s will ultimately hinder anything over a greater distance, when heavier lures actually help keep the spool spinning. It takes more spin to go the same distance.
    On another note, I’m building a 1976 Abu 2500C for BFS, it would be cool to see a comparison of something that old school vs what’s out today.

      Daiwa is too prideful to have any meaningful tech advances in baitcasters. Almost all of their "tech" is fluff. Looks cool on paper, but provide little benefit in the reel world. They need to swallow their pride and develop a centrifugal braking system.

      @@THEREELTEST I would say SV appeals to a ton of people though. Allowed my wife to learn a casting reel then back off brakes and get distance. I understand centrifugal brakes cast further, but Daiwa does appeal. Magseal might not be a godsend, but it is pretty cool technology. I just am a fan of both. What is Shimano's biggest tech?

      @@THEREELTEST they do take it too personally. Alphas is a cracking reel though. I do perch canal fishing in the uk where you need that precision and low cast. Often I use 1-3g small weights with a small plastic. Alphas might be more suitable for this type of fishing. I went fishing with a friend who owns the alphas and I was curious to how it feels in fishing as I wanted to buy one for the lower weight of my fishing. It does feel nice and it casts precisely but I felt it a bit over braked. Probably I got used with my aldebaran that makes faster casts. So I bought another alde spool. Now with the aldebaran I find it a bit more difficult to cast 2g than the alphas, but I like the ftb feeling in the second part of the cast more. So I do think it's more to do with preference than which one is the best. However I will buy a reel for the lower weights of my fishing but I'm waiting for your alphas vs gekka video + the new alde to make a decision.

      @@OVSpr I find that the rod plays way more into the short distance casting than the reel. The Alphas is a great BFS reel no matter if it lost in this battle or not, but fan boys seem to have their entire self esteem tied to other peoples opinions of their brand of reel, and I love breaking down fools like that with cold hard evidence lol. Im not sure when I can get to the Alphas vs Gekkabijjin but I can tell you that the Gekkabijjin numbers were not impressive at all.

    Not surprising results at all. I have tested both reels with several rods and lure weights. Only at 1 gram the Air is slightly better. At 3 grams and up the Air sucks pretty much (even compared to Aliexpress BFS). It is not meant for distance casts due to the tiny spool, I think. Nothing beat the Aldebaran 2016 at 2-6 grams for distance. I also doubt the 2022 version will be better than the 2016 version due to the smaller spool.
