Great test! I agree with the noise on the 16 Alderbaran. Great to hear it is improve significantly on the 22. This may trig a buy from me. You make the best tests.
I think your problem with the line sticking to the rod may resolve with a rod with spiral guides. It will also help turning your wrist 90 degree when overhand casting. This will not help with sidearm cast. The spiral guides will help for all type of casts, I think. I will do a test on this soon, normal versus spiral guides on two identical blank.

I just got my 22 Aldebaran bfs last night. It is fantastic.
I’ve been wanting a bfs reel for throwing Ned rigs and small swimbaits. Would love to have my first shimano reel as well. Hopefully I get picked🤞🏼

Finding the perfect conditions for testing these reels are sometimes very difficult and frustrating but thanks for doing that.
I know you don’t like using braid but it helps in these conditions actually even better braid performs when wet .
so.. in your opinion.. what's the difference between the '16 n '22?... I always wanted to get the '16 model for a long time.. but didn't know the difference on the BFS and the BFS XG

Thoughts on lighter lures for ald 16 with the 16ald15r vs new ald22? I have the ald16 with avail spool and have been debating on picking up the 22 version. I too have 2 ald16 one with stock and avail... I love them so much. lol is it worth getting the 22?
The 22 is an entirely different casting experience. The spool is noticeably faster and smoother. As far as the Avail spool? Throwing trout magnets and the really ultralight stuff it will have the edge on distance, throwing regular bfs lures I found that it didnt cast them any further than the stock spool. Im sure if I played with the extra magnets it would perform a little better but this new 22 is the cutting edge and will be for awhile

Can you explain the oring to me? I'm not real happy with my reel for this reason. I want to make sure I take out the correct oring. My curado bfs is so much better in my opinion. Actually I purc purchased a second curado because I had problems with the other BFS.
Shimano puts an o ring on the spool shaft bearing(and there's one on the opposite end on the spool shaft too). This o ring is supposed to secure the bearing and keep it from moving around during the cast. After awhile that o ring creates a vacuum seal and can throw off the spool tension setting. Basically if this happens, the spool will be stuck and not move no matter how loose the spool tension cap is. This usually causes overruns and you have to open the side plate and pop the spool to break that vacuum seal.

Does it make a noise when turning the handle fast...like a knock or thumping noise...when I take out the spool it does not make that thumping noise when i turn the handle...just wanted to know if your 2016 aldebaran does the same.
Would love to have the 22 Aldebaran. Never had the courage to buy a left hand crank reel... all mine is right.... Time I started with left hand crank.... 🙏🏻👍🏻
Lol.. if it was any other reel I would have waited for the right hand model. But this is the follow up to the GOAT bfs reel
I do everything right handed except for cranking a reel. So glad I learned to be a lefty when I started.
How far were you casting the lightest lure ?

Free spooling the 22 seems longer than any other reel I've tried.
Do you recommend any rods...in particular jerkbait or bottom contact for 1/2 jigs

@@hculebro Well this is what Ive noticed for JDM jig rods vs USDM. The JDM rods tend to be slower. Its rare to find an xtra fast JDM bottom contact rod. Most are moderate fast. I personally like xfast for bottom contact stuff so I cant really recommend a JDM jig rod.

What I noticed with 22 Alde Bfs and also with Antares A70 and 21 Antares DC was you need to pay extra attention to set the spool tension. The o-rings make the spool really hard to move sideways. When you think you have set the tension right it most likely isn’t. You need pinch the spool pretty hard and really make sure it won’t move sideways and have any clicking noise sideways, to kind of make the o-rings slip a little bit. So a regular thumb movement wasn’t enough to move the spool sideways. To me this made a huge difference in casting performance with all reels that have this redesigned silent tune.
I had the same issue with casting 22 Alde Bfs when the spool tension wasn’t right. Had my brake set to like 4.5-5 and still occasionally got overruns. When I really set the spool tension right, I could go down with the braking to 3.5-4 and casting distance was significantly improved and those overruns were gone. At that point I really noticed this is a big upgrade over 16 Aldebaran Bfs

I would like to see a new Conquest BFS. But not sure if that will come and when, maybe next year.

Smoother and quieter but not better performance what so ever when it comes to realistic BFS fishing so I will save my money.

have aldebaran 22, imo daiwa gjekkabin air tw still the bfs best reel on the market, casting distance same, but comfort on different level. for aldebaran 22 need soft/regular speed rods, not working good with fast and extra fast rods imo.
@@oslo7457 I doubt you even have a 22 Aldebaran kid. The gekkabijin his been a huge disappointment. Doesn't cast very far even with braid, casting is louder and not smooth either
@@THEREELTEST yes, have calcutta bfs and aldebaran 22, and got new aldebaran from amazon japan one week before your LEFT HAND reel arrived and was disapointing in reel because brakes are weak compare with calcutta and easy get backlash with fast action(stream) rods 🤣 but possible imo for aldb22 need softer rods and only flurocarbon

Why would you cast and retrieve with the same hand? That's like cutting steak with your right hand and then putting the knife down and swapping the fork to your right hand. Wasted movement!
