Not only are their tactics the same as the Dreadwing, their chapter logo is just straight up the Dreadwing's symbol
Makes sense, not just from a “they’re a blatant rip off and GW has inspiration anymore” idea but from a tactical decision. Some companies or even whole chapters might be displaying skills or have achievements that the High Lords might have more need of, and so creating an entire new chapter with that as its foundation could help to fulfill strategic objectives.
Can a Chapter sue another via petitioning the Lords of Terra for copyright infringement?

I adore these guys. I adore them so much that I basically made a homebrew character that is basically an old veteran who wants a challenge of epic proportions, despite the opinions of his brothers, they oblige to let him have the challenge he deserves nonetheless.

I always felt he was Tzenech in disguise or someone extremely malicious in an attempt to further their goals even if it includes furthering the emperor’s one as well.
for Raven Guard there's the "Death Spectres" with their own culture of rebirth and their throne of glass is fucking cool as it slowly turns the chapter master is slowly turned to glass, and they have a close bond with those they train, if you want to read more about their practices the book "Deathwatch" by Steve Parker is where you get most of their customs from, along with meeting Maximmion "Omni" Voss, and then there's the Exorcists who were once again returned to be of unknown gene-seed if you don't have plans for the second or eleventh episodes
Also leaves out the fact the death spectres are guarding the ghoul stars from whatever the pale wasting was
The were also once allied with the Marines Malevolent, things went sour and the Star Phantom kicked their asses badly.
In that case, they are the best bois.
I don't get GW writing. If the Marines Malevolent are SO good and efficient that it excuses their gamer moments, then the writers shouldn't make them punching bags for a somewhat insubstantial chapter.

So one of the chapters i've recently become fascinated with is the Charnel Guard from the blood angels. They've got a surprisingly long history, having just narrowly avoided getting wrapped up in the Badab War, and taking part in what was called the "War of the False Primarch". But what interests me is that they do the vampire thing harder than most, spending a lot of their time in stasis coffins when not fighting, they've got a lot of old HH tech, and are not acknowledged as a Blood Angels chapter by the other Blood Angels.
They're a mystery box chapter but I really love their paint scheme and just how spooky they tend to be, even by blood angels standards. Could be a neat chapter to focus on that's not just a variant of blood or angels or red.
Yeah, the Charnel Guard are pretty interesting for how little lore they have. Finding out their founding chapter master was Domimion Zephon gives me hope they’ll get more of the spotlight soon
Really like this Chapter. The Dreadwing is by far my favorite war crime division from the Great Crusade. Building a Risen force around the found Risen from the Dread. Lots of Termies and heavy weapons. .....it's more fun than it sounds to paint.....

Hell yeah brother, glad to see a fellow member of the Cult of Moirae. So much of our chapter’s best lore comes from filling in the blanks, like the over 1000 years our chapter spent effectively as Renegades wearing our old chapter’s colors before being assigned heraldry.

When I was getting into 40k a successor of the blood angels really caught my eye, the cruor blades. They make all their own custom blades and have been on a self appointed crusade against the tyranids since they weren't there in time to defend baal. I just think it'd be really cool to see them interact with salamander successors and talk about the different types of swords they've made. But i'm a bit of a sword nerd so i'm a bit biased about it, though it would be nice to get some more variety in the way of swords in the imperium. I also find that taking sangunius's idea of artistry to stave off the red thirst and black rage and putting towards smithing to be really neat, its not something your mind would instantly jump to but you can make extremely elegant works of art that can also cleave a man in half.
Can't wait to see which Legion he tries putting the Magpies into.

I feel the Lion would get along with this order of his sons as he is experiencing similar feelings upon his re-awakening.
I’m far more a lore guy than a table top guy, but I do like to build and paint the models. Currently I’m doing a home brew loyalist death guard chapter but once I’m done with that the Star Phantoms are one of the ones I’m wanting to do next since they are one of my favorite chapters. It’s in a tie with the Death Specters, silver skulls, or another home brew chapter (typically a loyalist traitor legion).

I think the Star Phantoms are really intriguing. They could use a novel or two. The Dark Angels seem to have a lot of control and influence on nearly all thwir successors. I can see the SP as *not* being Dark Angels for this reason. If they're Unforgiven, they're quite estranged.

I learned recently about the Angels of Vengeance successor Chapter of the Dark Angels. Using the black and red color scheme that the First Legion used during the Great Crusade caught my eye because the edgelord color combo goes hard.
Reading about them in the Deathwatch RPG makes them out to be so single-mindedly dedicated to the task at hand that it is to the point of obsession in which they willingly suffer horrendous losses if it means victory. This behavior usually has them disregarding the strategies of other forces, resulting in the victory of a battle at the cost of an entire campaign. Because of this, most Imperial forces outright refuse their assistance.
All of this is reflected in the Deathwatch RPG as them shrugging off things like fatigue, being stunned, and critical injuries, but receiving a penalty when interacting with any non-Space Marine Imperial force. In addition to the standard rules of Dark Angels characters.

There's a theory they are a second founding chapter as they were mentioned in a Flesh Tearers Novel being active around a 100 years after the Horus Heresy while the sentinel founding took place in the 38th millenium. Also they were always obssesed with death - their first fortress-monastery before the hrud invasion was a fortified mausoleum.
The existential dread of whenever Bones gets to the Lamenters.

Another fact about them is that they view ranged combat as just as honorable as melee. Also for a future chapter I would like to see the Angels Encarmine they literally NEVER stop fighting.

I've always equated the Star Phantoms to a group of exiled Fallen who didn't side with Luther but also splintered from the original DA Legion for some reason or another. Not Chaos but maybe disagreeing with the conclusion to a war or internal strife hence their disdain for being called DA successors while still having so much DA tactics and armaments. Maybe an early group of The Risen.

I’m sure you’ve covered the Blood Ravens and the Loyalist Thousand Sons “theory” (all but confirmed) if you haven’t I don’t think there’s any bigger “fan favorite” chapter (and if you feel Blood Ravens are over done you could make it an episode comparing them to other chapters created purely for video games/tabletop rpgs/etc, like the Storm Wardens of the Deathwatch rpg)

Huh, that actually is pretty neat, only kind of similar chapters I can think of are the Mortifactors and the Doom Eagles but, the Star Phantoms seem a bit less.....cartoony? about the whole being dead thing

Would a good way to fight the Hrud be to use gold bullets? Since it's a noble element that doesn't really bond easily, and therefore is not very strongly affected by the passage of time?

So...I had a weird thought of a space marine chapter that is highly specialized in complete aerial obliteration of enemy fortifications or strongholds. The most ridiculous idea I had with such a chapter is that their dreadnought is literally the equivalent of the ac-130 with a gigantic melta bomb to either bombard the crap out some poor xenos or perform a kamikaze, creating a massive explosion the likes of a mini exterminatous....
I'm not 100% on their lore but they could possibly be a rapid response force that the imperium can depend on or are in the fringes of a forgotten sector of the galaxy having to fight unknown alien species with their more unconventional tactics.
What is it with all the Dark Angel artwork? Yeah, I know that most of Star Phantom artwork comes from Arch's Badab videos but still...
