All the big truck TH-camrs were at a media event for the new Colorado last week/weekend. Looks like an awesome truck. But I will keep my 2017 Z-71 CCLB Duramax Colorado. The 2023 Colorado only comes in one length bed. 5 foot something.
I'm a 1500 (GM AT4) owner myself and they are pricey and modding it would look awesome but the Duramax is a Duramax.. can't go wrong as long as you put similar tires that you have on the ZR2 not the low profile tires (it's a 4x4 not a lowrider). that's my OP.

I think if you bought a 2022 chevy Silverado or GMC 1500 with the new interior and a Duramax 3.0 diesel. Then you moded that to make a ZR2 with a diesel like GM should have offered that would get a lot of views. I love the 6.6 Duramax but I think they have been around in one variation or another along with so many other TH-camrs with that context you’ll be lost in the crowd. Thoes baby Duramaxs are something special.
Its weird... When I look at something once, I typically get bombarded. But I had to specifically look for the Silverado ZR2 and I never got recommended content for it... So... Yeah, I wonder if its been throttled.
I believe the midsize truck market is where its at. Ordered me a new Tacoma TRD: OR in 6spd man. Canyons, Colorados, Tacoma, etc. Just seems to be the route
@Matt Ross. IMHO you should be all in on the Porsche content. Forget the domestic product that everyone and their uncle has. And concentrate on the work no one has ever seen before and ever had the coconuts you have to rip the thing apart and rebuild it. Well done on this my friend. Keep it coming brother. Great content whatever you chose. You've inspired me to find a wrecked one (911 Turbo) myself and I've been wrenching on cars for 20 years, but never would have without your videos.
I feel bad for you on how this went and how it was initially planned. I did find out about your channel searching for Silverado ZR2 content the past couple of weeks (I do own a Silvarado zr2 myself Sold my BMW x6 m50i for that and to save some money. ALWAYS been a pickup guy lool). kind of sad to me as well how this zr2 journey ended :P Nevertheless, U gained yourself a subscriber from Qatar. have a good day sir. PS; a pardon my English writing.
I like your vids, don't feel bad there are quite a few youtubers complaining about low views on their Zr2 silverado. I think they are just overpriced for what it it is.
I came for the Porsche and the E36, i am a jeep guy who loves building them, but chevy trucks are boring especially new ones. get something a bit older and a bit cheaper then put the extra cash you have into doing a bad ass build. IMO a newer used Supra build would be sweet. But if you're into a truck I personally ain't into the truck builds uneless its a full on frame up custom build. Although a Ford Ranger build would spark my views for sure.
Everyone seems to love the duramax. It’s such a popular and desired option. I don’t understand why it’s so poplar. It seems to be better on gas mileage but it’s also a lot more per gallon at the pump.
Yes, you'll pay more at the pump but you'll still have far great fuel savings overall, due to the incredible mileage it gets compared to the 6.2. Additionally, it is certainly far better built and far more reliable than both the 5.3 and 6.2 v8s.
I would also say on the side a cool diesel jdm van option since it’s completely unusual for you and has cool options. Think a Delica 4x4 diesel or a Toyota hi ace or town ace. Those are 10k vehicles and will bring views in combo with a duramax.
To be honest I discovered your channel with the Porsche videos but because I enjoyed the content and format so much I started watching your other videos in between even though I don't really have any interest in the BMWs or trucks. Despite this I've gone back and watched every episode. I also ordered some merch. Anyway what I've found to be the popular channels on TH-cam are ones where the cars involved have very large enthusiast communities. I realize that almost every type of car has large communities but it seems to me that VAG cars (mostly VW, Audi & Porsche) for some reason attract more interest in both online content (chat groups / forums / TH-cam) but also in meets and cruise days. The other group is JDM cars (mostly Nissan, Toyota, Mazda & Honda). Just my 2 cents!
I have literally had dozens of Gm trucks including 4 zr2 colorados a silverado zr2 and a couple long travel silverado prerunners. And a couple mid travel. I loved them all ! I bought a silverado zr2 5 months ago. I sold it last week. Utter disappointment for me. I jumped ship and ordered a 23 Raptor. Chevrolet currently has no idea what consumers want and really don't give customers a way to voice what they think.
First, you bought a truck that not many people can get their hands on. This is your biggest problem. So your audience is limited. Hell, GM just announced that they will only produce 5% of the expected production run for ZR2's next year. Secondly, modifying expensive trucks do not garner long-term subscribers and views. Look at TFL and other truck TH-camrs that feature expensive trucks like the TRX. Not the blockbuster views that you would think. Yeah... expensive trucks will initially get some views, but long-term they do not perform well. Why...? Most people can't afford them. And, for those that can afford them, they don't really modify them beyond your typical bolt-ons. This is not your audience. The typical AT4X, ZR2, TRX, Raptor owner will watch videos to see how these high end trims compare. They'll make a purchase decision on these videos. Then, they'll watch a few bolt-on how-to videos. And, they're done after that. You won't see them again watching a video until they're ready to buy a new truck in another 3 - 5 years, or longer. What trucks do most people buy, especially the people that like to mod their rigs? Mid trim models like the LTZ, RST, etc. And, mid-sized trucks like the Tacoma, Colorado, etc. Again, look at TFL and others... their videos with the most views are these class of trucks. The ZR2 is a fantastic all-around truck. It's not best at any one thing, but it'll do what 99% of what their owners ask it to do; Tow, Haul, off-road, highway, etc. At $73k, given all the options (rear camera mirror, ACC, DSSV dampers, all the tech inside, etc.), it's a good value. Try and price out a similar Tremor or Tundra... you're pushing $80K. And, if you must compare the Raptor... sure it starts at around the same price, but with similar options you're well beyond $85k. High-end cars and trucks do not make long-term subscribers and views.
Thanks for all your videos on this truck. I set my eye on the ZR2 because is a really good looking one.. But I've seen many many videos of people having the same sort of complains. At this point, I'm actually waiting for the mid size GMC Canyon AT4X..
Funny how you mentioned less interest in the Silverado. As I had no interest in that truck ether. I really liked the Colorado videos because it was a bit of an underdog. Having such a small diesel it was cool to see what you could do to it as far as power goes and other things you did to make it better. Didn’t hurt that I have one also. The new 3.0 diesel would be interesting. This is a truck I would love to have. The 6.6 Duramax is hard on fuel compared to the 3.0
Get a Power Wagon!! Might not be GM, but man those things are amazing for the money. Seems like it would be perfect for what you’re looking for. I want one lol
I love your channel; I’ll definitely hang in there with you while you look for a replacement. I’ve learned a lot about my 2021 Colorado ZR2 from your channel. 👍🏻
Honestly what brought me to your channel was the fact you had the Duramax in it and you were modding it. If you bought a Silverado with the 3.0 Duramax I would be more interested. The ZR2 is just so ridiculous expensive I don’t care to watch any content on it. Your videos are very well done I love to watch you workin on the vehicles, Love the Porsche content!
Being an avid TH-cam viewer I'd say the ZR2 is not as high on the interest list as lets say the Raptor or TRX. What I have notice are lots of videos like yours where the TH-camrs are having issues with their ZR2 and Tundras for that matter looking for replacements
New subscriber from the Porsche content. Wanted to offer some feedback because you seem to be looking for answers on what kind of content will help you expand your channel. I was drawn in by the Porsche videos, but not because I give a crap about Porsches. I like the "I bought this pile of shit, and I'm figuring out everything that's wrong with it, and trying to fix it." content that you've made. You have an excellent, accessible presence (you're obviously immensely talented mechanically) but it's still accessible and entertaining to a shmoe like me. I'm even more engaged by the struggle. "Well, let's try this... here goes. Well, nope, that didn't fix it". It's relatable. I'm not especially drawn in by a guy buying an expensive top of the line truck and bolting some things on to make it even more over the top. There's lots of that out there. It's fair to say that sure, there's lots of "guy fixing car" channels out there too, but with the Porsche you made progress on it and made it entertaining to watch. The LS swap BMW build was fairly unique. I'm not saying ditch the truck content (I'm guessing the algorithm brought you to me because I was looking up videos on how to alter something on my own Silverado). Perhaps just temper expectations on having a new truck carry a whole channel's content. This isn't a bad thing. I bet a decent amount of your new viewers are like me. I'm interest in the vehicle if it's interesting, but I'm clicking on your videos to watch YOU wrench on them, not cuz it's a Silverado. Here are some ideas. Not totally literal, but examples of the kind of content that I mean: -I bought this POS 2018 Silverado 1500 Work Truck with a blown engine, and I'm turning it into something amazing with my skill and the local pick-a-part (and sell it). -Look at this barn find Baja Trophy Truck. I'm going to make it amazing (and sell it). -The new electric F150 costs way too much. I'm taking this old one and putting a Tesla engine and battery pack in it (and sell it?). -The BMW i3 is body-on-frame (who knew?!?). I'm buying this one and doing this crazy body swap!
Getting your money back should be easy. My 2020 ZR2 has the gas motor and less than 13k miles in 28 months, can't get the dealer to leave me alone. They always want to buy it back for $6k more than I paid for it.

Long story longer, I don’t think there is a new truck worth what they are asking.
All the big truck TH-camrs were at a media event for the new Colorado last week/weekend. Looks like an awesome truck. But I will keep my 2017 Z-71 CCLB Duramax Colorado.
The 2023 Colorado only comes in one length bed. 5 foot something.
I wish I was a big truck TH-camr lol.
I'm a 1500 (GM AT4) owner myself and they are pricey and modding it would look awesome but the Duramax is a Duramax.. can't go wrong as long as you put similar tires that you have on the ZR2 not the low profile tires (it's a 4x4 not a lowrider). that's my OP.
hey! Can you do detailed video on the Duramax diesel, i am thinking of buying the trail boss or zr2 with the diesel. Could you talk about cost of ownership, fuel milage (MPG), Maintenance, and so on.
I never had the 3.0 diesel
Matt - can you tell who makes those sidesteps / rockslider that’s on the ZR2?
GM makes them
an l5p build would be sweet but if you get a 2020+ duramax I would wait for the 2023 model year sense the HD trucks will get the updated interior.
I DO want to get a 2023 (or2024 probably) with the new interiors. That's what stopped me from getting one now, the old interiors SUCK!
@@matt13ross Yeah and I also read that the l5p is going to get a boost in horse power and torque. I don't know if its true or not but it would make sense because the current l5p came out in 2017 so it is time for a refresh.
Love the Porsche built so far. But I would love to see a 16-18 Silverado duramax!!!
You may be in luck then!
Hi Matt, I happen to have a 2018 High Country 3500 Duramax with 25K miles on it for sale. Has the interior you are looking for and very loaded. Will sell below book!
Color and price?
@@matt13ross White, kbb at 73K, need 70. Would love to see you build it. Has a nice ARE topper as well.
It is in mint condition. Make me a good offer? Just FYI, I have a blue Silverado ZR2, just stock so far.
Little out of my budget lol.
Was contemplating a ZR2 but after your channel, I knew I didn’t want to do all the mods to get it where I wanted. Bought a TRX last weekend and couldn’t be happier.
Coolest truck ever made awesome choice!
Literally the only truck that makes me put my head down at a light.
@@thelastdragon3242 and put your head down at the gas gauge also. That thing sucks gas like no tomorrow.
@@johnt6673 Yeah my deleted colorado gets 28 mpgs on the regular, maybe next time I'll act like I'm going to race and just take off the line responsibly. Lol
I think you're on point with the Porsche. I found your channel like a week ago, and I binge watched every Porsche video. Subbed and turned on notifications just for the Porsche.
I think it's just generally boring to most.
New Colorado zr2 or canyon At4x?
Won’t be out for 9 months or so.
I have the 1500 rst 3.0 duramax and its been a nightmare also i dropped everything i had in this truck and im so frustrated with it
Some people compare it to a Raptor. Would you agree? Or more a tremor comparable?
Not even close to a Raptor.
I want to know what spacers you used on the bumper pls let me know thanks
Just some bolt washers.
can't do much for "mexico" mods on new d max. L5P are expensive to delete. LML are nice.
Ah man. Sorry bout the luck. Chebs just aren't exciting.
I believe the midsize truck market is where its at. Ordered me a new Tacoma TRD: OR in 6spd man. Canyons, Colorados, Tacoma, etc. Just seems to be the route
You may be true, the new Colorado ZR2 won't be out for a while though, so it's not a current option.
@@matt13ross the 2023 Colorado/canyons look really sharp
Did you ever take the Zr2 off road? I would have loved to see the ZR2 with stock wheels on 35s.
Not this one, no.
I'm a new subscriber from the Porsche videos! Loving the stuff you've made, keep it up!
Thank you, and thanks for the support!
New subscriber too because of your porsche video and i dont even like porsche. lol like the format
People who wanna complain about your brutal honesty....should probably not cry themselves about well, your brutal honesty.
😂 😂 agreed!!
I feel bad for you on how this went and how it was initially planned. I did find out about your channel searching for Silverado ZR2 content the past couple of weeks (I do own a Silvarado zr2 myself Sold my BMW x6 m50i for that and to save some money. ALWAYS been a pickup guy lool). kind of sad to me as well how this zr2 journey ended :P
Nevertheless, U gained yourself a subscriber from Qatar. have a good day sir.
PS; a pardon my English writing.
Well hey, thanks for the sub! I hope you like the new diesel build.
I like your vids, don't feel bad there are quite a few youtubers complaining about low views on their Zr2 silverado.
I think they are just overpriced for what it it is.
Agreed, it's sad.
Good thoughts there. Though I'm not a big fan of the new Supras.
What about a Silverado 1500 diesel build?
Can't tune them :(
I think the Replacement should be something GM that can off road like a Blazer from 1988 - 1996 or 02 Silverado
Everyone seems to love the duramax. It’s such a popular and desired option. I don’t understand why it’s so poplar. It seems to be better on gas mileage but it’s also a lot more per gallon at the pump.
The power, the sounds, the tuning and endless mods, love them!
Yes, you'll pay more at the pump but you'll still have far great fuel savings overall, due to the incredible mileage it gets compared to the 6.2. Additionally, it is certainly far better built and far more reliable than both the 5.3 and 6.2 v8s.
I’m pulling the trigger on a zr2 for daily purposes thinking about doing yt vids on it. Keep making videos I’ll support it
It's a fine daily minus the terrible MPGs.
Should’ve kept the Colorado, the sell rods and pistons. And build Trans and intercooler kits
I don't like too much truck videos , 911 videos , cool 😁👍👍
If you do another duramax do a zr2 style build....solid axle...lockers...and do overland style build would be cool
I would like to do that in the future, but I can't without a proper garage that can fit it.
I would also say on the side a cool diesel jdm van option since it’s completely unusual for you and has cool options. Think a Delica 4x4 diesel or a Toyota hi ace or town ace. Those are 10k vehicles and will bring views in combo with a duramax.
Sorry to hear that the Silverado ZR2 didn’t workout as planned. How about the new Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss ? That’s going to be a hot truck for 2023
yes , that colorado zr2 reallly looks sharp and i don't mind that 2.4 cylinder it's coming out with either.
ZR2 Colorado Deseil! Love your channel!
Agreed
The hottest truck now I think is a 2023 Colorado ZR2. All I need to say is wow
Thanks for all your videos on this truck. I set my eye on the ZR2 because is a really good looking one.. But I've seen many many videos of people having the same sort of complains. At this point, I'm actually waiting for the mid size GMC Canyon AT4X..
Yup, waiting is a good idea.
The 6.6 Duramax is hard on fuel compared to the 3.0
Would LOVE the 3.0, but you can't tune them :(
I would like to see a duramax build
Keep up the content man, I vote for the Duramax. I wish you had more content on the Colorado, but get what makes you happy.
Content content feed me content
Get a Power Wagon!! Might not be GM, but man those things are amazing for the money. Seems like it would be perfect for what you’re looking for. I want one lol
I have seen talk and teases of the return of the duramax Colorado. Wouldn’t be around until 24’ or mid 24’ though😬
An L5P would be cool. But I think a full LLY build just because they are the most "hated" of the 6.6 engines.
What about LML?
How about something like turning a Silverado Trail Boss into a ZR2 or even a ZR2 Byzon?
More likely that I get the new Colorado ZR2.
@@matt13ross also, the new Ranger Raptor..
I like your use of Jacks AKA DurrrtymaxJack’s give away High Country lol
I just stumbled upon your acct. I would suggest do the Duramax high country build and put a order for your Colorado zr2 diesel tho😅
Problem is, you can't mod the 3.0 Duramax, which makes it no fun for me.
@@matt13ross That is true.
I think for that price you could buy two old trucks and I think people would be more likely to watch because they're trying to fix up old trucks
I agree, fixing things is more fun and gets more views.
Being an avid TH-cam viewer I'd say the ZR2 is not as high on the interest list as lets say the Raptor or TRX. What I have notice are lots of videos like yours where the TH-camrs are having issues with their ZR2 and Tundras for that matter looking for replacements
Yup, not an impressive truck like the TRX or Raptor.
Should’ve have got a tremor lots of owners. I’m a 911 GT3 guy. Your turbo idea should work well
If I'm gonna get a Ram, it's gonna be a Cummins lol.
I hope you pick up a diesel ZR2 Silverado and give that a shot.
I've looked at them a few times. Maybe one day!
I think it’ll be cool to convert a lower trim like a Rst with a Duramax into a zr2 killer
Agreed but can’t tune those diesels.
Do you want another 2.8l duramax?
Not totally literal, but examples of the kind of content that I mean:
-I bought this POS 2018 Silverado 1500 Work Truck with a blown engine, and I'm turning it into something amazing with my skill and the local pick-a-part (and sell it).
You make good points. I think me sticking with older vehicles and working on them would be better than trying to mod a brand new one.
I vote rivian or f-150 lightning or something similar 👍
Getting your money back should be easy. My 2020 ZR2 has the gas motor and less than 13k miles in 28 months, can't get the dealer to leave me alone. They always want to buy it back for $6k more than I paid for it.
I got 71.5 for it. Not too shabby!
@@matt13ross Now all you gotta do is find a beater to tide you over till the 430 lb/fp Colorado zr2 arrives! Everyone buys HP but drives around on torque, especially off-road.
i just picked up the ZR2 with the 3.0L, I love it
3.0 is the way
I’m down to see any duramax 15 an up bout to do the switch my self.
What is the intended purpose for the truck???
To drive
