I just did this on mine. I brute forced mine more than you. I forgot to remove the woodruff key. I used the impact on a 3 jaw flywheel puller because by hand is for nerds. Worked well. My flywheel came off with the puller so fast it fell hard into the concrete floor and uhhhhh my key is nowhere to be found. Yay. Bikes mint 😎 Time to JB weld it instead of a woodruff key (or go buy one at the auto store if they have em) lol
Side note: FleaBay has the flywheel tool for $20. Well worth it for the ease of use. A little anti seize on the tools internal threads and contact point increases it's function.
Very interesting and thoural video. The labor cost behind replacing that cam chain is probably steep. Thank you for the valuable information brother! 🤙
Reusable gaskets ,Allen bolts instead of screws on the engine cases,center stand .On and on ,the more you look the more practical features you see.Three piece bolt together frame.1 hour to drop the engine.Transmission access without splitting engine cases.Cables for controls.
nice work! my camchain dropped off the crankshaft sprocket while changing the camshaft for the new TEC performance cam, and it doesn`t want to re-engage. when I try and fit the cam, the chain jumps the sprocket, I am about to give up and take off the cover etc as your video, unless you have a magic method to get the chain back over the crank sprocket from the top. If not, maybe I should fit a new camchain anyways (mileage 12000)
I’m sure you have this resolved by now, but I had the same thing happen to me. I just dropped some extra slack from up top, to get the timing chain to fall below the lower sprocket. Then lifted it back up. I kept doing this until it grabbed in the right spot.
Awesome dude! I’m new owner, I got inspired by your videos. My Himalayan 2024 is 300 miles first service done. I feel like the gears are a little stiff, and the valves are too noisy, been told that sound is normal and that it will loosen up after 1500 miles. I’ll do a valve check at 1500 and oil change just to be sure. I like the bike it’s heavy but when the engine is running it’s fine I like the balance and ergonomics I’m a noob for off road but learning. I’m 55 and i’m planing to do a long trip on it 25000 miles eventually.
Won't be run in for 5,000 miles. Oil change and adjust tappets at 1,000 miles and it will thank you for it. Mines at just over 5,000 miles and just loosening up nicely.
side note postscript wtf, my oil line is chafing on the front engine mounting bolt - looked like you have removed it? temporary/for a fix? I was thinking of grinding down the nut a wee bit - hmmm
Hey, you should make a video on the new Himalayan that's coming on Nov-7th. Itchy boots got to ride it and there are several details available for it, would love to hear your thoughts.
YOUR CRANK NUT TORQUE SPECS ARE WRONG! It’s 70-80 nm (51-59 ft lbs NOT over 110 like you say it is! Page 13 of the service manual (free on ks motorcycles as a pdf to view) shows part 1 as the crank nut/rotor nut/flywheel nut (all the same thing). It says it’s a hex flange nut m12 X 1.25p X 11w Then to go page 69 and in the middle it shows magneto. It says the magneto rotor hex nut which is an m12 x 1.25p x 11w is 70-80nm torque. I could not find your torque specs anywhere in the manual or various Facebook groups, videos, or forum posts. Please backup where you got those numbers from if they contradict what I just said
side note after several abortive attempts where the chain keeps dropping off the crank sprocket, the manual actually recommends schlapping some grease on it to keep it in place while you fertle around with the cam sprocket getting it lined up. If you can`t get the sprocket on as theres not enough slack in the chain, its dropped off again - 3 times!!

Link for the proper tool is on the description

Love how simple this engine is
Exactly a
Hardy aluminum rubber gaskets...MUST BE FKIN NICE 😂
Everything on the whole bike is made for incredibly cheap ,reliable and fast maintainence

Yeah they aren't quiet motors hahahha

@80VDualSport it's called "audible warning.of approaching motorcycle"
@mattyb7736 it's a feature....

Ji! Please tell me, haw many kilómitrers before do this? Many tenks!
I put a very hard 28k on it. Lots of hard riding and lax maintenance

Changing camshaft, cam chain sprocket, airfilter, exhaust ECU fuel x etc etc . Looks like a new engine would be better . Get a himlayan 450 😂
Can't wait to test one out!

I keep tension with a bungee cord sometimes
What tyres are you running with?

My #1 go to choice for my personal use are the shinko 244's. Currently burning through a mitas E07 though.
