Yeah, the extra work for what seems like more of a hobby channel than an income stream would be hard to justify haha. I wouldn't blame them one bit for just going "noooooope"

@@jaisonbairstow3753 I would love to do both, it becomes a matter of using the available airflow.. We already know that when ported these heads can go to 500cfm! This engine Is going into my truck CASPER. David and I will figure out the best plan of attack and make it happen.. The ideal setup would be to build two separate Engines one mild... And the other Wild!

I guess I should've said that what I'd like to see is a baseline, then to see the thought process on why you decide to do whichever changes - ie you want to change the shape of your power curve or you can see that port matching would improve something

These r performance heads. Not 4 ur bolt up 2 c how they go on an average 351w or 351c. These heads require the best bottom end available. Minimum of a Forged Nitrided Steel Crank & decent Rods & Pistons. No one in there right mind is going 2 Build a base line engine. These heads complete with valves, retainers, rockers & valve covers r not cheap.... $$$. Edelbrock make some lovely heads for 350-600 hp 4 Windsors. These Hemi Heads r from a different planet & require a Decent Budget Engine Build. Quite frankly l cant stop going on Google 2 take a Peep at them a few ⏱ a day. Gr8 look'in heads & engine packages. Just clean up the bowls and clean them up like the average guy can do in the garage. As far as the LS heads go, is there really much of a benefit to adding these heads considering how well as some of the cheaper aftermarket heads flow with the stock valve arrangement? Richard Holdener shows some serious flow numbers and horsepower with stock stuff if you haven't seen. ALso, I am from Concord and am currently doing a complete rebuild on a 6.0 Powerstroke. Maybe we can grab lunch one day?

Curtis thanks for the kind words.. I understand your line of thinking with the LS engine thing.... Given the options of heads available to the LS crowd, I doubt many would want a "FORD" style head setup... None the less Greg has sold quite a few sets to LS guys who want to march to the beat of a different drum... I can fully respect that because in a sense...that is why I went this route... In the worlds of SBF's you are either a Windsor Lover or a Cleveland Lover... Well I want the best of all worlds.... because this head has roots to both and its big Brother the BOSS 429.. Hence the name MIXED UP BOSS

Great video!👍👍 Those are some amazing out of the box numbers. I see where you are wanting to go with these heads and I would think that you're going to be better off with doing some massage work to them. How much? That's hard for me or anyone else to tell you but I believe that you will know what you to do for your application.
I've read some of the comments below and I would have to disagree with some of them because they do not know what they are talking about. I don't know as much as others when it come to doing the work but I have learned a lot by keeping my mouth shut and listening to the that do know and have many years of experience.
I'm looking forward to the rest of this build. I'm interested in what, if any modifications (porting) you do to the heads. I think that HP number you're shooting for is a little on the conservative side, I think that it make over 800 HP, especially with a well tuned dual quad set up like you're currently running.
I hope that you get to dyno it at Charlie's shop!

If I can pull that off and push the power a bit higher in the rpm range I feel good about the 750 mark... But that is why we test! Thanks again for watching and coming on board

I would like to see the heads tested "as cast" because I believe in the heads being max'd out by the builder in the "fast as cast" mode. I do not believe that a buyer of these heads should take delivery and then spend thousands more for porting. What I'd really like to see is to take a set of heads, flow and port them to the max, then recast the heads using the molds from the ported heads as the example and then make them conform to that mold. I've seen the price schedule for these heads, and they "start" at around $6300. Then add in another couple thousands for porting, that's BS. The "as cast" heads at the $6300+ level should already be max'd out as to flow. No porting should be required at all.

As a Ford guy I like any SB heads that can generate more HP than a sb Chevy, my only problem is that most racing organizations will only allow inline valves because 99% of the racers are running in line valve heads. Woo has outlawed Cleveland heads on the Fords since the day the Casey Luna Ford won the championship years back. Show up at a sb modified show and you will get banned.

And on another note, what is the purpose of the clay around the intake port. When the motor is in the truck it will only have the intake manifold, could you please explain this to me, thanks. Cant wait to see you assemble the motor. See you in the next one.

    • @UnityMotorSportsGarage
      @UnityMotorSportsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for the kind words... When you flow test heads you can't have the sharp edge of the port entrance because it will disrupt flow... Most nowadays use a 3d printed "manifold" that has a Radius entry to smooth the air transition into the port... We use them as well but didn't have one to fit this new head so we went old school... Good old modeling clay works just as well it just takes extra time... But it is all about smoothing the air flow into the port itself...

The original Boss 429 heads flowed extremely well, but weren't successful when used in Drag racing . It was because they worked great at wide open throttle, but were to big and failed when they tried to use them for the drags. It maybe that these super big port, high flow heads will have the same problem if used on a drag race engine? And may not work at all on a street one!

So, are you going to do some forced induction on the Mixed Up BOSS? Or still naturally aspirated like Casper is now?
I think I would go nuts on the porting if you're going to stay naturally aspirated, and only do a little cleanup if blown.
If you don't mind doing (or can afford doing) two Dyno tests, I would love to see one as-cast or maybe what a home grinder can do for one test and a second test with major port work done on it.
If you can only afford one Dyno test, whatever you *really* plan on putting in Casper (I'm assuming pretty heavily worked over).

Them heads flow great numbers as cast for sure but are limited to a light car like a fox body or turbo setup. I would think the reason Kaase stayed with big blocks is the power potential. When flow testing you have to eliminate the sharp edge of the port entry because it will disrupt the flow. Most nowadays use a 3d printed plastic manifold that will bolt on to the head face that has a radius entry... We use these as well.. but didn't have one to fit this head. The fact that y’all are making this head to fit the junk copy of our sbf (ls) tells me you have no loyalty to the Blue Oval and have shit on the BOSS legacy. Damn.

Well... Thats not true... I'm a true Ford guy and Greg had someone approach him about fitting it to the LS and given the fact that the bore spacing is so close between the SBF 4.38 vs LS 4.4 He took it as a challenge to make a Chevy run fast with Ford Stuff... Just the opposite of what you are saying... Everyone touts the LS as the greatest! He wanted to show what was left on the table..

That’s it. 😳. Those are not impressive flow numbers.

Lol....why bother. A $500 junk yard motor with a turbo will blow it away for less then $2000. Try again!!!

What's happens when I put twins on this?.... 1400hp with only 14.7 lbs of boost....There is always bigger plans for later..

Very respectable flow numbers, even with mild lift. I would be curious to see if these heads will out flow the Higgins heads, after porting them.

Thanks, I dont know about the Higgins heads as I have never had my hands on them but I do know that Greg Brown has seen 500cfm with these heads... He has won the RaceEngineChallenge twice with them so I know they tons more potential than the engine i'm building will see... My goal is 750hp from pump gas which can be achieved with the flow that we seen.. But that is why we Dyno them, and then Drag Race after that! Thanks for Watching please Subscribe so you can see how it turns out! The good bad and the Ugly...

@@UnityMotorSportsGarage The Higgins heads are 430 cfm out of the box, and will make very good power. If 500 cfm is achievable with ported Hammerheads they may possible be the best flowing SBF heads ever made. It will be interesting to see how they do on the dyno, and the track. At 500 cfm I don't see a problem getting to 750 on pump gas and NA. You can make fairly large ci Windsor's... And with that many CFM, the port velocity mentioned in another response, you might as well go big cubes.... O_o ....

@@UnityMotorSportsGarage the heads I believe that Higgins now has are scm’s. Scott Cook Motorsports. Scott Cook was working on a 500cfm sbf head prior to covid and was saying it was looking like it was pretty close to production. I haven’t been in the loop for a minute but he’s certainly got the runs on the board.
