Chrono Trigger had so many great songs but this is probably the most beautiful one especially when played on a harp. I will always think of the lyrics my best friend Mike and I wrote to this song when I hear it about his Grandma. "Michael come sit on my lap, right now, and I will tell you a tale..."

The more songs I see you arrange, knowing how technical the harp is both to play and to arrange for, the more awe I have for harpists in general, and the mad respect I have for the two harpists on my subscription list grows even further. It helps that, for some reason, harpists seem to be retro gamers, too. Is it a prerequisite to enter the secret society of the Harpists? Do you have to play certain retro games and feel true love for them in order to join?
Thank you so much! I dunno, could be that the other harpist and I are in the same age group. I grew up mostly with SNES/PSX games. I still play games in that era because...well they're just so damn good, and I don't even have any new consoles (except a Switch). It's not to say that new games are bad or anything. There's just a PLETHORA of older games I still haven't played, and I have the consoles. So why bother blowing $500 on a PS5?

Some games that were unsung at the time of the PS2, but have since gained cult followings, are the dot hack games and Star Ocean 3. Wild Arms is still unsung to this day, and the Way of the Samurai games are still mostly unknown into even their modern entries on Xbox/PC. A game that I know has a dedicated cult following that is still rather small is an RPG by Level 5 called Rogue Galaxy. Radiata Stories is a high quality RPG developed by tri-ace and published by Square. All in all, there are a lot of hidden gems to find in the largest RPG library every.
You harping this nostalgia is going to inspire a unique kind of soul dance probably for the rest of my life. You're a real treasure! Would it be greedy to wish for an original song composed by you?? 😅 Yes, definitely would be. Literally just said this is power for a lifetime. 😂

Is there some way to keep the higher pitched strings from sounding a percussive accent? I ask because I have never owned a harp. Can a soft material be used to keep the higher tuned strings from making a percussive sound?
Not sure what you mean about the percussive accent. Is there a specific part of the song where that happens? Some people place a cloth on the lower strings to prevent resonance/pedal noises in certain pieces, but I've personally never done that.

Loooooooooooove Schala's Theme. I had planned for it to be my next CT song but then I injured my wrist and couldn't execute it the way I wanted to. My wrist is much better now but not 100%. Hopefully I can attempt it sometime in the next few months 💜

The song was a hit with fans even though he couldn’t sell it, when he couldn’t get the rights to the track for the song, he changed the music and the song wasn’t as popular.

@@Harpsibored Shining Force is a representative of a somewhat forgotten genre, the strategic/tactical RPG. If you played FF Tactics, you roughly know what to expect. I think only widely-known series that are still keeping this genre afloat, AFAIK, are Fire Emblem and Disgaea (awesome OST warning). As for FFX-2, that OST is strange to me, because I'm normally a battle theme guy. Those are the tracks I usually like the best. But the battle themes in X-2 felt kinda meh and generic to me and I remember the field themes more. I actually like some of them more than their counterparts from FFX proper. The Calm Lands, for example. The FFX tune fits the place and the mood, but man, it just makes me wanna take a nap, you know? The X-2 has energetic piano chords that pump me up. Oh and in case you didn't know, FFX-2 has done the anime thing and has a side OST album with arrangements of the three main characters' themes sung by their Japanese VA's. Especially the Paine one, I think it's called "Nemuru Omoi" is great - fast jazz and the woman certainly has the voice talent to pull it off.
This is just my opinion. but I feel this song is lacking. I'm not sure of its a crispness or possibly a flow of the song. The main parts of the song sound great but its the in-between and the harp flare that idk, honestly idk, I wish I had a better musical ear/knowhow to put it all togeather in better words. Your ability to play the harp and the work you have done always brings a warmth to my heart, this one just doesn't hit that.
Ah well, can't win 'em all. I'm still proud of this one since I managed to get a decent recording during crazy weather with all of the strings in tune. .............................I think

@@Harpsibored Shining Force is a representative of a somewhat forgotten genre, the strategic/tactical RPG. If you played FF Tactics, you roughly know what to expect. I think only widely-known series that are still keeping this genre afloat, AFAIK, are Fire Emblem and Disgaea (awesome OST warning).
As for FFX-2, that OST is strange to me, because I'm normally a battle theme guy. Those are the tracks I usually like the best. But the battle themes in X-2 felt kinda meh and generic to me and I remember the field themes more. I actually like some of them more than their counterparts from FFX proper. The Calm Lands, for example. The FFX tune fits the place and the mood, but man, it just makes me wanna take a nap, you know? The X-2 has energetic piano chords that pump me up.
Oh and in case you didn't know, FFX-2 has done the anime thing and has a side OST album with arrangements of the three main characters' themes sung by their Japanese VA's. Especially the Paine one, I think it's called "Nemuru Omoi" is great - fast jazz and the woman certainly has the voice talent to pull it off.
That's a really expensive instrument you have there.

This is just my opinion. but I feel this song is lacking. I'm not sure of its a crispness or possibly a flow of the song. The main parts of the song sound great but its the in-between and the harp flare that idk, honestly idk, I wish I had a better musical ear/knowhow to put it all togeather in better words.
Your ability to play the harp and the work you have done always brings a warmth to my heart, this one just doesn't hit that.
Ah well, can't win 'em all. I'm still proud of this one since I managed to get a decent recording during crazy weather with all of the strings in tune. .............................I think
