Originally composed by Yasunori Mitsuda. I've loved the music from Chrono Trigger for years now and wanted to wait until I was mature enough to capture the elegance of his music. Listening to this piece brings me back to being up in the quiet northern Minnesota forests with only the wind and birds. Blending those natural elements with the beauty of Mitsuda's composition 😊

I think some people forget that in game this song plays in ONE area, and a short area too.
Yes you go through it like 4-5 times during the game's story, but even then it's unlikely you're going to be there for longer then 5 minutes total, and yet this is one of, if not the best pieces of music in the entire game.
It was a perfect storm. IIRC, this was the first big project for Mitsuda, so he had a lot of music he was working on and polishing already put into the soundtrack.
His later stuff is still great, Chrono Cross especially, but there isn't a dud tune in the whole Chrono Trigger. I don't like 2300 A.D. over world ... but that's because the music cuts out.
This said, I loved running around the world as a kid, not even doing anything. I went to Guardia Castle so much it's ridiculous.
@@benabaxter that's the hallmark of good RPG music. it makes you not only not care about retreading the same maps over and over, you downright look forward to it.

It's so crazy to think about this! Seriously his music is what makes the game in a lot of ways 👏
Technically three different areas (Guardia Forest, Cursed Woods, and the wooded area with the blue pyramid near Medina) but yeah, all are ridiculously small and visited sparingly. You have to WANT to hear this whole song to actually hear it. It's criminally hidden and if you don't slow down for it you'd never realize how satisfyingly complex it can be for such a forgotten early game track.
Secret of the Forest is my absolute favorite and not talked about enough along the likes of Corridors of Time or the other popular tracks. It's so calming and serene. Mitsuda made an absolute banger here and I can't help but stop and stand in Guardia Forest for ten minutes or so at the beginning of every playthrough.

Yatsunori Mitsuda will forever go down as one of the greatest video game composers to ever live. Even other great game composers like Koji Kondo and Toby Fox paid homage to this incredible man
What's the little flourish they sometimes use in their songs? Starts high, holds for half a beat, and quickly drops down three notes?

Kondo, Mitsuda, Sugiyama, and Uematsu. Can't rank them (Uematsu is my favorite lol), but they are the pantheon of RPG composers.

You do realise Yatsunori Mitsuda took a bunch of sample music and just changed the sound of an existing tune? I watched a video where someone managed to get most of the original music he took as 'inspiration' and whipped up new soundtracks under a deadline.

This has always been my fav song in the game it’s just calming. Crazy that it’s in one area that you wouldn’t even hear the full thing.
I've played Chrono Trigger for decades now, and it's music is what transports me into the game's world. Luke, this was a fantastic cover. I closed my eyes while I listened, and was transported into this world that I love. Well Done.

Ok, you got me. I wasn't expecting it to sound so full about a quater in the song. If anything this shows your understanding of mixing, and understanding of the instruments you play.

C-Trigger definitely has one of the best soundtracks to a dramatic, immensely powerful storyline ever crafted. Over the decades, I've always held to the belief that the game, script, characters, and so forth were "good"... but the MUSIC... was bloody EXEMPLARY. :) Without this kind of score, the game and its semi-cartoonish storytelling (not necessarily a bad thing, btw!) wouldn't have been as powerful.
