I agree - it is worth the time to correct. Getting a flat quilt is the goal. Taking the border off is sew worth the additional time even though you might be sew DONE with that quilt. 😄 More batiks for sure.
More Batiks would be wonderful. I have learned the hard way about a wavy border when I first started. I as so upset when I got it back from the longarmer and she was very nice in explaining to me what I needed to do going forward. Have that quilt yet today and smile when I look at how far I have come. Have a nice week!
I love batiks! What’s better than batiks? Well. More batiks! I meant to write to you last week. I love my Martelli cutters. But like you, i did not enjoy the way you push it to get it started. And, i often use my stripology rulers so that doesn’t work well. What i realized is, you can flip it open manually. You close it manually, so why not? Now my Martellis are my BFF!
I've been guilty of just easing in a little fabric. When I received a compliment from my long armer it was when I did a quilt for my daughter. I had starched the fabric and took a lot of care with the piecing. I've learned that it's important to make every block as if it will be showcased as your work. So now I take my time and fix mistakes. I don't usually starch but always press my fabric first. And I used Quilter's Dream bamboo for the batting. It was a beautiful result. Thanks for another helpful video.
More Batiks! Thank you for this episode. Over the years I have received a Lot of quilt tops with wavy borders. I really want to take the top apart and fix it. So, Thank you so much!! Have a wonderful week. 🥰🥰🥰
More batiks!! I am so happy to have found your channel as a snowbird from Southern Wisconsin to Florida and I have subscribed. Can’t wait to visit your store when we are back up in Lake Geneva!!
If I won MORE BATIKS, it would be MORE BATIKS than I have. So nice of you to do these giveaways, and I always appreciate the tips/advice in your videos. They are my Monday morning ritual!
More batiks. "Your pieces must match. One cannot be bigger than the other." Were you watching me? I am getting better at cutting and sewing. You made me laugh. The book is beautiful and I will check it out. You are a wonderful instructor.
Thanks for sharing that info on putting on borders. As a longarm quilter, having way borders can be a nightmare. I want to give my customers my best work, but wavy borders make that so difficult.
If I could get more batiks, I have a friend learning to quilt & craft that would love to share them with me. Thank you for your precise directions for piecing for a long armer. Your tips are always useful to build skills.
Thanks for all the advice. I find if I'm quilting my own, I will do a lot of easing in if needed, but I don't like giving that to another long armer. Also....washing a quilt several times will help a quilt just lie better...so that's my advice. Obviously it won't take in the extra fabric on the edges, but it will help relax fibers if the quilt freshly back from the LA is stiff.
I am a new subscriber and I enjoy your videos very much. I’ve never worked with those, but I would love More Batiks Thank you they would be the very first ones I’ve ever worked with. I am new at this and so anxious to learn about all of the blocks and fabrics and all the little tricks and tips thank you for what you do
I would love to win MORE BATIKS! I am a longarm quilter. It is amazing to me how many quilts I get with piecing issues like this. Thanks for helping to educate all of us.
More batiks. I finished a project using batiks. It was a joy to see how colorful it was compared to my other projects. Thanks again for all the wonderful tips. After spending many hours working on a quilt, finishing just to get it done no longer works for me. I started paying close attention to your wonderful advice, and it really has made a difference in my sewing. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for your gift away. It is nice to have the opportunity to receive without having to pay and I don’t have to pay for your channel and I don’t have to pay you to hear your wonderful education. Wish you belong to our guild because I think you have a lot to offer. Meanwhile, after this class, which was another good one, I’d like to enter your drawing for more batiks. More Batiks, Moore boutiques.❤
Batiks are such fun - More Batiks with such variety would make a great scrappy quilt. As a longarm quilter, I can’t agree more about trying to get a quilt flat and square before I get it. We can only do so much to fix excess borders. For some of my customers I have actually talked with them and then taken off the borders and shortened them to eliminate some excessive waving. But that takes a lot of time and is really better avoided to begin with!
Borders have always been a little intimidating to me. But I have found many of these tips to really help - and the biggest tip is to pin at the half and quarter points. I am looking at doing more batiks in my next project.
More batiks!!! I'm a longarmer, not as a business but do quilts for friends. Sometimes after seeing the quilt I will make up excuses "too busy" "going out of town" "longarm is broken" to not do the very "puffy" quilts friends make. My tip for borders is cut your fabric LOF, not WOF. Take a piece of fabric out. Pull on it WOF and watch it stretch. Now pull the opposite direction, it doesn't stretch.
I love batiks for the color and texture and the crisp way they press. As for long-arming, I can barely afford the materials for the quilt, so I just struggle along on my domestic machine; sending it off for quilting is just too expensive even to consider.
More batiks, please. I have some left from a previous project but need more batiks to make another. I love your shows. They're always heloful and infirmative.
more batiks :) i always measure the size of my quilt in the middle and use that as the measurement for the border. learned a long time ago not to just sew a piece of fabric on without cutting it to the correct length first. some people measure their quilt in 3 different areas and take the average of the 3 for the length of their border.
MORE BATIKS. I love working with batiks. Thanks for the tips on getting flat quilts. Could you do a video on seams, how to get them flat when there are so many different angles in a block? Would love to hear your suggestions.
MORE BATIKS… I love sewing with batiks… they encourage me to get flatter blocks as easing in any batik fabric is so difficult… must keep my ripper close!
Working on a batik quilt top right now & need more batiks! Too many medium value, not enough lights & darks. Also, a question for a future episode: you’ve mentioned you prefer to fold the backing to the front instead of adding a separate binding. I would love to learn the steps/techniques you use for this. I’m at a loss in terms of how to square the top accurately/safely after quilting without messing up the backing. As ever, thanks for your expertise & willingness to share!
More batiks! Love the scrappy giveaways
So nice to see that you have more batiks and such a variety of them. This would be a good way for me to learn how to use them in my quilting.
I agree - it is worth the time to correct. Getting a flat quilt is the goal. Taking the border off is sew worth the additional time even though you might be sew DONE with that quilt. 😄 More batiks for sure.
More Batiks. Goodness what an awesome gift of fabrics.
Thank you, Maureen❣️
More Batiks! Planning a ying yang quilt and this will provide a lot of variety! Thanks for making your videos. They are very helpful
As usual, another good video. I love it that you encourage accuracy over just getting it done. More batiks.
Your useful and practical tips helped me improve my quilting experience. Thank you.
More batiks will appreciated. ❤

Oh WOW! I love, love batiks! I am working on a Drunkard’s Path quilt now using batiks! Thanks for your tutorials! Jackie!

Thanks for explaining how a too long side border results in the bottom curving.
I would love the batiks- the stripes one is interesting.
More Batiks!! I really got usable info from this episode. Thank you so much for your time in making these videos!
If I could get more batiks, I have a friend learning to quilt & craft that would love to share them with me. Thank you for your precise directions for piecing for a long armer. Your tips are always useful to build skills.
Maureen, all the Longarmer’s out there are shouting “Yes! Yes! Yes!” 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 Excellent pointers, as always. ♥️🧵
More batiks, please. Having quilted many a catawampus top, your piecing instruction is greatly appreciated. Thanks Maureen!

I just got a Martelli about 2 weeks ago. So far I love it, but haven't tried it sitting down yet. It works great with stripology rulers.

Oooh, More Batiks, please! (one can never have too many, y'know! 😉) ❤
More Batiks Thank you for saying that two pieces of fabric that aren't the same size won't lay flat and that ripping out and correcting is ok to do.
More batiks, I have 2 quilts to send to a longarmer. I will double check them before I take them.
More Batiks! I couldn't agree with you more on the border discussion. Sometimes I feel like the border is a ruffle!! Not a good look for a quilt.
Who can't use MORE BATIKS. Love your simple explanations.
