Bird's back was so bad by then he could barely play. Shaq should have had Laettner's place. First the whole team getting suspended in 97 against the Heat when the Knicks were up 3-1 causing them to lose the series. Then in 99 Ewing got hurt before the finals. Probably the most slept on legend ever. Pat was like the perfect center. Had no flaws or holes to his game. Excellent foot work, great low post moves, maybe the best shooting center ever, could hit the 18-20 ft jumper consistently, excellent defender, hit a lot of big shots in the clutch.

Ewing gets almost no respect today. In the '90's people weren't all falling all over themselves to blow Hakeem. It was a real question for a while in the '80's and early '90's whether Ewing, Robinson, or Hakeem was better. Ewing was definitely the most impressive in college, but his body fell apart a lot quicker banging and playing back down basketball. Hakeem focused more on finesse, etc. and he peaked a lot later.

Born in 77 most of my childhood I recall Georgetown always being on TV and always being the favorite, and always winning. I grew up in Ohio and we got WGN out of Chicago and I loved the Depaul Blue Demons and every year Ewing and the Hoyas would kick their ass. Clearly as years went on I actually grew to appreciate and admire those Georgetown teams from my youth. John Thompson and Ewing where villains that eventually grew into my all time favorites. Nothing but respect for Patrick Ewing the man and the player. The Big East in the 80's was insane how good of a product it was. The coaches, teams, players where all iconic.

Probably the most slept on legend ever. Pat was like the perfect center. Had no flaws or holes to his game. Excellent foot work, great low post moves, maybe the best shooting center ever, could hit the 18-20 ft jumper consistently, excellent defender, hit a lot of big shots in the clutch.
He was weak got pushed around a lot. When I saw him play against Moses Malone , and get pushed around like a tooth pick, I said he’s never win

Ewing gets almost no respect today. In the '90's people weren't all falling all over themselves to blow Hakeem. It was a real question for a while in the '80's and early '90's whether Ewing, Robinson, or Hakeem was better. Ewing was definitely the most impressive in college, but his body fell apart a lot quicker banging and playing back down basketball. Hakeem focused more on finesse, etc. and he peaked a lot later.

Don't forget they met in the NCAA title game and Georgetown beat Houston down. Ewing won a National title and Hakeem choked two years in a row-- even with dudes like Clyde Drexler on his team. He then got beat down by Larry Bird and the Celtics in his first NBA Finals even with Ralph Sampson. It wasn't until Ewing got old that he couldn't compete.

Starks the same, except as a rebounder (tho not bad for his size) starks was a good passer, good 3 point shooter (streaky tho), good driving to the lane and finishing, huslte. Mason, good rebounder, good handles, good post up game, good defense especially in the post, hustle, good passer. not good enough to win it all (or maybe if jordan had not existed) but def above average..

Patrick LED the Knicks for years-- the only consistent superstar on a team full of thugs, journeymen, and street-baller types. Teams would bang right back against Ewing and he still held up and consistently delivered. His supporting cast was goons like Oakley and Anthony Mason and guards who were either inconsistent like Greg Anthony or huge choke artists like John Starks. He carried a bunch of bums-- in the largest market and under the greatest media scrutiny-- and led them to the playoffs for 13 years in a row. And if it hadn't been for Jordan he would have won at least one title.

Born in 77 most of my childhood I recall Georgetown always being on TV and always being the favorite, and always winning. I grew up in Ohio and we got WGN out of Chicago and I loved the Depaul Blue Demons and every year Ewing and the Hoyas would kick their ass. Clearly as years went on I actually grew to appreciate and admire those Georgetown teams from my youth. John Thompson and Ewing where villains that eventually grew into my all time favorites. Nothing but respect for Patrick Ewing the man and the player. The Big East in the 80's was insane how good of a product it was. The coaches, teams, players where all iconic.

I'm a loyal NY Knicks fan here too. Let's be completely honest here as Knicks fans. It's amazing how too many Knicks fans leave Knicks management off the hook. They didn't secure that 2nd superstar around Patrick. And as much as I liked Oak, I sometimes shook my head in frustration on the amount of dumb bone-headed stuff Oakley used to do on the court. And get himself ejected from games when his team needed him on that floor.
