    Great video! For industrial batches, it is not accepted the product to foam during manufacturing. It will lead to time wasting, a very expensive resource.

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In larger batches it is much easier to avoid breaking the surface/sucking in air, so its not an issue. Its always an issue in a lab size sample because its so small its hard not to break the surface/introduce air.

      I use caprylyl capryl glucoside too and I tested espom salt on it at .5% of total formulation. The glucoside was 40% of the total formulation and it did thicken it. Much better than a gum too.

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401

      Thanks for watching! I’m not sure if I understand your question; if you are asking can you add salt in a diluted/dissolved form - I would not recommend it, as it could be adding a lot of extra water at the end of the formula and destabilise your product. Could you please explain why potassium cocoate cannot be thickened by salt? It is a typical anionic surfactant so as I understand it should be possible to thicken it by salt. I have no problems with thickening canola oil or sunflower oil liquid potassium soap with salt but when it comes to coconut oil soap this method doesn't work. Moreover when I add coconut soap to canola oil soap which was thickened by salt the thickening effect disappears and there is no more impact of salt on viscosity. Do you know the explanation for this?

You may also enjoy this video: How to write a cosmetic formula: th-cam.com/video/K077QLu-YCM/w-d-xo.html Salt (as in sodium chloride) is an efficient thickener of surfactants without impacting the performance; it should be used for the viscosity response for this reason.

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It actually depends on your anionic surfactant, not the betaine. You will find this workshop really useful: Can I use a different surfactant: personalcarescience.com.au/Workshops/Surfactantworkshop-6326/

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401

      Usually around 5.5 just for the SLES - but it depends on what else you have in the formula. I can't answer definitely without reviewing your formula, you can purchase a formula review here: personalcarescience.com.au/Advice/cosmeticformulation,brandadvice-797/ Sorry I can't give you specific advice without reviewing everything else in your formula.

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Salt should be your last addition, as other ingredients may alter pH and/or micellar shape. So add salt last, if nothing else has given you the thickening result you need.

    what is super fatting agent and why?

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Superfatting agents are amphiphilic, but more conditioning than cleansing. They are able to form part of a micelle, and don't need to be stabilised by the surfactants, but leave a partial emollient -like feel on the skin or hair after wash off. They 'soften' the feeling on wash off. • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401
      @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beyond this input, there is generally too much electrolyte for the micelles to form into long cylinders, and then you get no thickening at all. • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401

      Salt won’t thicken either of these surfactants, it only works on selected anionic materials. For the alkyl glucosides, you will need to use gums to thicken, please watch this video on how to make natural surfactants: th-cam.com/video/mp_9vhLfjlY/w-d-xo.html
