The part about thinking you understand and then months later ACTUALLY understanding was literally talking directly to me! I've watched this video multiple times, took notes highlighter and all, and it wasn't until now - months later, a few successful and failed formulations later that I really am understanding the cationic and anionic surfactants. It literally just clicked now why some things weren't working how I expected.
Iam a pharmacist from iraq , currently a master student of pharmaceuticals and industrial pharmacy, i really love your videos , they are so easy going and really concentrated and dense with the good practical info .
I just went through the entire ingredient list of a commercial shampoo I use and I found that it contains 11 actual surfactants and 1 ingredient that has surfactant properties! Why so many surfactants? Thank you for making things simple Tara Lee. 😊
Your videos are so educational for me. I've started a skin care business with sugar scrubs and want to move onto soaps and more. I attempted to make foaming soap the other day but it got moldy and I didn't understand why so your videos are really teaching me what I need to be doing. Thank you so much!
Thank you. Your so generous to put this out there. There are articles you can read but they are so technical ( and boring). You explain everything so well. Easy to understand stand. Can’t wait to watch the more detailed video 💕
I just wanted to let you know that you are an excellent teacher. I have been a subscriber for several years. I predominately making stuff like lipstick, foundation etc. I wanted to get into shampoo etc. but always felt it was too much info to handle and kept putting it off. Finally, I decided to grab a pen and paper to learn in detail about it. I watched your surfactant video, and it was the best one in fully explaining the details of surfactants. I even went to check another channel that was formulating a shampoo, and could tell from the knowledge I gained from your video that the formula had some combination that was incorrect. I just wanted to thank you for the time and effort you put into making your videos and also to let you know that you are doing a very good job. Thanks, and continued success in all of your under takings.
Fifth time I’ve watched this in two weeks and I learn a bit more each time 😅 Thanks Tara. It would have been good to have high school this interesting and accessible
Thank you for your knowledge. I enjoy your rambling. I have a problem with reading, especially when there are a lot of words on the page, so your videos are very informative and helpful to me. I look at your videos whenever I begin a new cosmetic endeavor. So I hope you won't stop doing what you do because I benefit so much from your videos.
Anionic surfactants are great cleansing agents, usually in face washes. Body washes, shampoos, bubble baths. Anything that cleanses and foams. They lift dirt and oil from the hair and skin. SCI and AOS 40 are not harsh and have great lather. SCI is usually sold under the name “baby foam”. Usually combined with Nonanionic or infoterric surfactants. SCI comes in a powdered form while AOS 40 is a liquid form.
Tara, thank you so much for the information you share. You mentioned that, in most cases, anionic and cationic surfactants should not be used together, but that anionic and amphoteric surfactants can be used in the same formulation. If amphoteric surfactants have a negative charge in alkaline(pH > 7) solutions, and most body washes are formulated at a pH of 4.5 - 5.5 (acidic solution), how can amphoteric and anionic surfactants be used in the same formulation?
Tara lee you are just amazing.❤❤❤ You give so much important information making it easier for new formulators across the world to formulate and understand formulation of cosmetic products better. Hats off to you for your work and dedication to education people rightly which I have not seen other youtube formulators doing so. Lots of love to you from India.❤❤❤
my goshhhhh I understood and learned so many things with this video, I even feel that I can formulate more products than soap, which is what I do, thank you very much, you are very good at explaining, greetings from Colombia
I’m gone to watch all your videos because I’m a newbie an I’ve been very interested in making things like this ! An these videos are helping me a lot an go into very good detail thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Your videos are the best out there! you are so down to earth and keep things so simple but so formative at the same time.. definitely my 'go to' when in need of info . I'm a beginner btw :) xxx
I found your channel, and LOVE it so much. Try two or three of your formula, and it turn out gorgeous 😘😍. In this vid, I have learn A LOT. You make me feel confident to formulate my own skincare products. Thank you, and God bless you! 💓💕🤗
You're just so awesome Tara! Thank you for all of your videos and insight. I asked a question on another idea but I now have my answer. Thanks again for all you do!
Can't say thank you enough 😍 This video is amazing and really knowledgeable 😍 I love your channel as you don't hold back information . It's really helpful for people who are looking to start the business and learn more 😘 thank you so much for all your video , really appreciate it
So fascinating to me ! Thank you SOO much for sharing all that you know and your experience TaraLee !!! So helpful for us starting out ! Blessings !!🥰♥️💫🙏🏽✨🍀💗💓❤️
Can you use cocamidopropyl betaine along with a emulsifier like BTMS 50 and peg 40 hydrogenated castor oil together? Instead of two surfactants for sensitive skin😊 say in like a body wash formula
If I want to increase lather of soap, should I consider soap as anionic and that these rules apply? ... and so I can add anionics or even amphoterics? Will these surfactants even lather with salt soap s? Should I assume this if they are coconut derived?
I found your videos while searching for record cleaning for anionic surfactants. Do you have any detergent soaps you'd recommend that are mild and extensively use anionic surfactants? It needs to be safe for records (PVC) and foaming is not important. A product suggestion that doesn't leave no residue is also important. Thanks In Advance.
I LOVE THIS CHAAAAANNEEEEELL!!!!!!! question, is there a percentage chart you can share? in how to combine them and all that? big hug from Dominican Republic.
My laundry detergent started irritating my skin. Coincidentally they improved their product when it became irritating to me however the ingredients haven't changed the only difference I can find is in the caution statement instead of it saying contains surfactants it now says contains anionic and/or nonionic surfactants and fragrance. Nothing else that I use with fragrance bothers me . My only allergy that I'm aware of is mildew/fungus/mold or yeasts. These may be one in the same. I'm also allergic to penicillin which I believe is or contains mold. Anyway I'm trying to find a new laundry detergent that won't irritate me but they all do. What should I be looking for on the label ?
Hey Tara so I finished this formulating cosmetics for beginners series and saw you have another one. Is this meant to replace the previous series you made or would it be beneficial that I watch that as well? Thanks!
It is meant to replace the first one, but there is information in the previous series that I have yet to cover in this series(I will at some point and go into even more detail) but in the mean time, watching the first series wouldn’t be a bad idea 😊
Can anyone help me to solve my problem? I made a natural shampoo with coco-glucoside and coco betanin. as you know coco-glucoside is a high PH surfactant. its PH is around 12. Therefore, to reduce the pH of the final product, I had to add some lactic acid to it until it was stabilized at 5.5. But unfortunately, when the pH of the solution decreases, its foaming rate also decreases, so that it almost does not foam at a pH of 5.5. How should I solve this problem?
Hi, I have a question since I started making skin care products and selling them a lot of people ask me if I am a professional at it, having a license, or a degree. I know that you are not as well and I was wondering what do you reply to people when they ask you because they ask me all the time and I don't really know how to reply to them.
Yes mar! As Tara stated tell them you are a freelance formulator, or if you just want a diploma to show you are a certified skincare formulator join the diploma programs from Formula Botanica or School of Natural Skincare to learn everything about formulating and to show your clients you have an educational background in what you do, if it just bothers you hon. If you need links let me know and l will provide you with them !
You are not only an extremely knowledgable skin care creator, You are a great teacher as well! Thank youy
