I wanted to test and see if 3 City Girls could beat 1 Farm Guy at hauling Straw Bales and the winner gets $1000. I got 80 bales for each of them, and the goal is to get them on the trailer as fast as possible.
Thanks to AG-Gear ( @ag-gear ) for sending over the shirts we used in this video
Everything in this video is real, nothing was setup or faked. Before the video started we walked the girls through how they had to do everything (like operating the straps)
(As a disclaimer: the definition of city girls is relative, these are Central Texas city girls, not California city girls. However I made sure they had no previous experience hauling square bales like this.)

You need to get your facts straight. 3 inexperienced city girls VS 1 inexperienced guy. Because you definitely can't call that guy a hay haller. I know this because I used to do that for a living. Should be able to throw and stack in one motion.
The real winner is the farmer who had his square bales picked up for free!
what i was thinking lmao
It wasn't for free. It cost a grand.
@@christiancodplayer797how exactly do it cost them
Bro he paid them $1000 that ain’t free labor
Ya that a lot of work
The thing is, I'd like to see this with 2 farm dudes and 6 city girls, bc I know they would lose.
So true, him being alone made it so hard! I've got more videos in the works. 3 Farm Girls vs 3 City Guys will be coming out, and its really good! plus I have other ideas in the works.
@@familyfarmlife cool
Dude busted ass and did good for a 3 to 1
Bruh I just said this
@@dailthegoat799 one in the truck on on the bed/trailer and they'd be unstoppable
This was fun to watch, but the guy deserves more credit. Since he handled every bale twice, so he moved 160 bales to their 80. Atleast that's how I see it, 😂.
he did great! having to go back and forth really slowed him down
Really he handled each bale 3 times. Pickup then moving it from trailer to trailer then final stack… man I’m glad I don’t help load hay anymore 😅
He loved them three time loaded unload then stacked on the trailer
I also think if he had to, he could go out and do another 80 before they could. Farm work doesn’t end after the first load.
The way the girls handled the bales looks like they have done this before. Any novice (male or female) that I ever saw move bales usually is very awkward at it.
These are straw bales. So its a little easier for them.
@@familyfarmlife they weren't true city girls though, easy to spot it
Just the way they threw the straps over the stack was a giveaway
@@460turkey let alone the way they quickly knew how to use the ratcheting part. In my experience most people who haven't ever used them before need to be shown how they work. They clearly weren't as inexperienced as they were led on to me
I'm 50 I would love to challenge these kids
Okay, now let's see who can do it 12 hours a day 7 days a week for a month! That's farm life
Every teenager needs to throw square bales for a couple weeks to understand what hard work is. I remember being 12-13 & helping an uncle. From field to trailer, trailer to pile, from pile to escalator into barn, once in barn stacked. Moving every bale 4x before reaching it's finial destination. Glad my dad had me do that. Uncle got cheap labor, I got fed very well, fresh milk from their bulk tank, & learned a valuable life lesson.
@@fook-joby-den6172Imagine doing it in the summer in texas. That'll really tell them what hard work is.
Nah they all got fancy equipment that loads and stacks it for you now. Not so when I was doing it.
@irreccon Not everyone does. I don't. All that crap cost a fortune. Now, every once in a while, when I have a lot of haybales, I'll borrow my uncle's or my neighbor's.
That one girl knew how to stack plus she knew how the straps worked. I dont believe she was a city girl.
We showed them how to do a few things before we started. Just so they knew the basics.
That's what I'm say they new more then led on to
@@familyfarmlifeI do like the video and the challenge, but it was supposed to be the fact that they are “city” girls, that don’t know anything about farm or bale work, so it wasn’t in my opinion a very good example of experience, vs, no experience, because I’m sure the farmer would have stood a way better chance, if they didn’t know what they were doing. Just my opinion, but like I said, I liked the challenge and will be watching the others!
City people use ratchet straps too.
@@TroySavary not often.
Next time use real city girls. It’s obvious there not from the city
Better yet, have it a One on One challenge and see who wins.
watching all the girls jump in the truck to drive forward 20 feet had me laughing my ass off
I know! They eventually realized that they didn’t need to get in, but it was on the last one😂
The fact he was that close but looked like he was putting minimal effort is hilarious bro walked like this it was just a saturday on the beach.
Any water back there??? as the camera pans down on the bottle of water..... priceless!!
So my man is worth 2 1/2 of them. Thats nothing to blow off
He did a great job!!
He pretty much tied them.
Keep in mind bro was barely trying
So what I'm gathering is that one man is worth 3 women...
Pretty impressive hustle. Now let's see it with alfalfa hay at 80+ pounds instead of straw?!!
Heh, fuck that
That alfalfa hay is no joke haha
The guy would win that
2 farm guys against 6 farm girls would be a different story
hmmmm.... i might have to try that! I've got more in the works.
Love seeing copied comments, almost word for word
@@RuralRiders oh I see 😂 I guess we all knew 2 would beat 6
@@dailthegoat799 lol
Dude no because while watching that I already thought that... Before seeing the comments..
@@RuralRiders
Should have been a stick shift truck
That would have been so good! Definitely next time😂
4wd and manual trans with granny gear. Put it in low/low and let it idle across the field. No driver needed and it's about the right speed for someone walking to throw bales and keep up.
@@zombieresponder thats how i was taught to load straw bales. i only got paid 10 cents a bale. usually loaded and hauled 1000 bales a day.
Those are light bales. I used to haul 600-800 from the fields by myself in a day and stack them in the barn.
Hay bales are about 65 lbs each, not 30 as those straw bales are.
As a farmer when I was young as that man I picked up bails and threw them into a wagon by the end of the day i done over a thousand bails ...i think he let the city girls win
What a gentleman, Sir! He stopped and held the door open for them 😂
They really out here playing the farmer games...😂
When I was in high school, I lived in a small south Texas town and this was what we did to make money during the summer. There is a right way to stack bales in order to get as many on the flat bed as you can in one load. It was hot, and we didn't want to spend a lot of time making extra trips to the field to pick up bales that we missed. Farmer paid us about 25 cents for each bale that we had to split between the crew. (3000 - 4000 - 5000 bales, it adds up.) But we got penalized a dollar a bale for each one we busted open and if the baling machine wasn't adjusted correctly, the twine wouldn't be tight enough and they would pop right open in the field. Had to take extra time handling those to keep from busting them.
This was such a good video idea!! For sure thought he’d win!
I thought he would as well! But having 3 people makes it so much harder for him
@@familyfarmlife yeah definitely the numbers outweigh the skill in this one
He won in spirit. bro didn't let nothing stop himm in true country style fight till the end
@@loganwallace1902 hell yeah
It would also be different if they did it the correct way.
The bales being scattered out. You do not find them in piles in the field.
You get your truck pointed straight down the row.
Put it in granny gear. And load the trailer without stopping.
Until you get to the end of the row you then do the same down the next row until the trailer is full.
Then you take it to the final stack and stack it from the trailer.
Thats how you do it by yourself.
if i remember correctly isnt there a machine now that picks the bales up?
@@Themrine2013
I believe that is only for the large square bales.
And they have a spike for the large round bales.
The smaller square bales are still done by hand.
@Royalltop1 There is a small bale lift that will pick the bale up and drop it to the stacker. We used to do 1200-1400 bales a day, with 2 of us. I'm sure there are some who did more.
The trick is throwing the bale close to where it needs to be stacked, and the stacker guiding it into place. Same way for firewood, bricks or anything else heavy.
@@johnthompson9625
Cool I did not know!
It has been a long time since I have baled hay.
About 40 years
im 14yo that goes to a school with city kids and the ask why dont we (the family farm) use an automatic loader but i have to tell them this is the easiest way to do it
I would say they aren’t finished because you would need to roll the strops up so you don’t fly around
That’s true, however we decided before hand that they just need to strap it down to finish. Definitely should have had them roll them up tho.
But it’s still a nice small race@@familyfarmlife
I want to go bigger scale, this was mostly just a test to see what I would be able to make. Id love to work up to something that takes longer then a day..... who knows.
I’ve done this with alfalfa bales that were at least 80 pounds! My friend and I took turns loading the bales and driving the truck. Those alfalfa bales are no joke!
this is actually a cool concept. would love to see more farm vs city stuff. subbed.
I’ve got 3 farm girls vs 3 city guys coming up
I think if it were 2 farmers and 6 city girls it would’ve been easier for the farmers
For sure! Him having to go back and forth every time he wanted to move a bale really hurt him.
funny how girls are tired after 80 bales
Loved the video cant wait to see more!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, I’ve got more in the works!
Me and my dad own a small farm at the point where where hauling 200 bales and chucking them in to a hay mow by our selves and us farmers are built different
Only 200?
Now I wanna see 3 city dudes vs 1 farmer 😅
Also, you guys are driving my dream truck
Great video!!!
Looks like the guy wasn’t even trying maybe he was hoping to get lucky 😂
This was a really good video and entertaining. I think you missed an important step though if the girls really wanted to take home the win. they needed to properly tie off their straps. you can't leave the strap flapping in the wind like that unless you want to tear up an axle and / or get some really nice tickets from DOT or your local LEOs. Aside from that this was a really cute video showing that it takes 3 city girls to beat 1 country boy. hehe.
Dang, he's just as fast by himself as all three of them were together.
I really surprised that the girls knew how to use the ratchet straps. Most people I know don’t know how to use them and messes them up and I live in a rural area where we use them for everything. WTG girls. Dude you are good as
2 3/4 of the girls. Good job dude.
11:58 those straps are supposed to be run completely behind the rub rails. I know it seems a bit trivial, but trust me it's always worth the time to strap up properly🤙
How do you then hook it if doing it by yourself? Wouldn’t it just fall off when you walked around?
@@mattmelfarmlife generally you "grab" under the deck. The hooks will sit under and horizontal on the bottom channel. As a CDL holder that's a major infraction to run them on the outside of the rub rail. Before I got into it I learned from Papa on the farm to run them inside incase of a sideswipe and cutting the straps.
Be well my friend 🤙
When we did hay my dad would put the '94 (i think) chevy 3/4 ton in first, hop out and throw bales in the back as it crawled along. That 6.5 diesel powered that ol girl over every hill and valley at an idle without a problem
Those are not city girls I've only watched the first stop those ladies kick butt definitely not what I thought of when I read the title. I'd say there at least country girls most city girls would have no idea how to pick up a bail like these let alone drive a truck and trailer. Just saying these 3 ladies are not what I'd consider city girls they are definitely ladies that are familiar with hard work great job ladies
I’d like to see the same contest except with three wire bales!
The real winner is the farmers that own this field 😂 Teamwork makes the dream work, especially when getting other people to load up your bails!
Just found you on TH-cam and love it. Keep up the good work of showing us how your farm life.
I appreciate it! I’ve got a lot more planned. What did you think of this video? Do you like the farm challenge type of video? Would you want to see more?
The fact that they celebrated after asking if the ratchet was tight enough 😂
That was a nice competition to watch!! He was right there the whole time I thought he had it.
Pretty sweet! Cool video idea!
Thanks! I appreciate it.
Aw man the girls totally could’ve fit them all on first round and won huge! Awesome video!
Awsome!!
I'd love to see this with real hay bales instead of straw bales. Bout a 40lb difference lol 😂
The one girl has experience with ratchet Straps. When I saw the way she hooked the straps, you could tell she's done it before. Definitely not straight up city girl. The average city girl wouldn't be able figure out how to use a ratchet strap without watching 20 minutes of how to videos first! Lol
the fact that it was this close is crazy
These girls don't look like city girls 😅
Definitely small town girls. The city girls I know would struggle with one bale.😂
For sure no way
I agree 100% not what most people would consider city girls
Best way to make people work.
Kid: I want Mr. Beast
Mom: We have have Mr. Beast at home
Mr. Beast at home:
More like Mr beast on a farm🤣😂. I’m trying to put a unique twist to the modern TH-cam style 🤷♂️
Even Mr.Beast had to start somewhere 🤷♀️
He was moving quite casually during the whole thing, but credit where credit is due, I know I struggle doing bales so good work girls
My entire father side does agriculture and so do I and I’ll say they might’ve won that but make them do that every day in crazy heat with minimal water and food. And tbh picking up little square bales is probably one of the easiest things to do on a farm. Next make them herd a bunch of pissed off bulls see how that goes.
Would like to see who could navigate the city quicker, the city girls or the farm guy.
Those young ladies out stacked him for sure
😂😂😂😂 3 girls and STILLL NEEDED HELP STACKIN
I love how the girls actually stacked the bails instead of just tossing them on! I think they were much more efficient based on how neat and tieable their load was!
Nehemiah 3 “many hands make light work” that being said 1 wage is cheaper than 3 wages I know what team id chose
No fair some one taught those girls how to use straps
We did show them how to operate them before the video.
So thats not real City girls knowledge, no real competition..
@@familyfarmlife Next time teach them properly so the loose end of the strap is not free to be ripped off by the wheels when they drive over the straps. As a farmer and a truck driver it shows you don't know your stuff.
Id rather have him work than those three. Three inexperienced equals his work, that just shows he's way more valuable to have around. That's saying something.
Go get girls from downtown Seattle that work at starbucks or a hair salon and this would probably be a different outcome
How are you going on that new project video lol😂
Well, I’ve never collected square bales that were already conveniently in piles of 10 in the field. Is this cheating? Does a machine leave them that way? We always had to collect the bales as the trailer was going 1mph between the rows. Just curious.
What i want to know is what baler stacks the hay in the field? Instead of leaving them one behind the other all the way through the field. Anyone who has picked it up knows one man can do it but to be efficient you need atleast 3 people one guy driving one on the ground and one on the trailer stacking
The reason we did the stacks of 10 was to give the guy an advantage. If they were all laid out in a row, he would of had no shot
This is where my truck comes in handy all I gotta do is pop in first gear step out walk and pick up the bales as my truck drives
Buck'in bales, oh the memories😮
By the way those girls are throwing the bales. Those are some really light bales of hay.
My dad had an old international truck with a pull out choke and 4 speed manual transmission.
He would pull the choke out enough and put the transmission in granny gear.
The truck would creep enough that him and I could load the hay in the truck while it drove itself. LOL
bro was not sweatin it
yeah but there waa 3 of them and they were running and he stayed calm didnt hurry and his was stacked nicely so really he wins. this is why guys make more
Love it!,
I appreciate it!
What is the music to the video?
Guy did awesome considering he had to do everything. Threw alot of bales when i was younger
Level field. Easy. Try that stacking on an Appalachian farm! Now that wud be a challenge. Lol.
I think we're using the term "City Girl" kinda loosely..
Proving that it takes 3 girls to do one man's job.
Heclearly learned how to do things on his own
He obviously let them win. He was taking it slow. Real farmer wouldn't even bother shutting the driver's door to go from stack to stack let alone even putting the truck in park cuz the truck ain't going no where.
What would you rather pay Triple the price of one worker for a few minutes faster or pay for one get it done only a few minutes slower and have someone who can keep going multiple loads without getting tired
I and my brother grew up doing this but with much heavier compressed green feed bales. Those look to be straw bales
That looks like a cool job.
Straps should be opposite side wratcheted for even pull. putting wratchets on one side pulls load to that side. And not done till excess strap is stowed. So job was not finished.
as someone who has bailed and hauled 1000s of square bails for the last 30 years I can tell you I would way rather have about 4 teenage girls who ride horses helping load and haul than a dozen teenage boys. Does not matter if their city girls or country girls as long as they are interested in horses the girls will work their harts out while the boys stand around with their thumb up their buts. I would also rather have one of them girls running my tractors and equipment because they will not tear up near as much stuff as the boys will
Great video concept, you should’ve had them stow the straps properly though. That’s a big part of proper tie down procedure, you’re not going to drive that trailer on the road with those straps left hanging.
I like the cut away from the girls so they can teach them how to do a rachet strap😂
Interesting video. I haven't thrown small square bales in 30+ years. I am curious what your operation is where you are using a small square baler. In one of the comments I read you do about 26000 small square bales per season. The few farms in my area that use small square baler is for alfalfa to sell to the hobby horse people. But even those farms using the small square baler are using the New Holland Stack cruiser bale wagon so they don't need to man handle each bale. I would say about 99% of farms have switched to large rounds, 3x3, 3x4, or 4x4. I can put 2 large rounds on my dual round bale spears on my 3 point and one large round on my loader and move a lot of hay quickly. Or you just did the video for the fun of it to remember days long past.
These are straw bales. So you can’t use them to feed. We do around 26,000 of them each year, and sell them to feed stores and pumpkin patch’s. We sell out every year, there’s a pretty big market for these small square straw bales
For the bales we feed to cows, we do round bales.
I understand straw is not used for feeding purposes. I never thought of the hobby aspect for the pumpkin patch market. I was just surprised you don't have a stack wagon and are throwing all those bales by hand. As a side note I have never seen your channel, is your farm under pivot irrigation or do you get enough annual rainfall to get a decent bushel per acre on your corn? Where I am at we all have to run irrigation in order to yield 200-215 bushels per acre of corn. Annual precipitation here is 12 inches at 4104' elevation
We don’t use any irrigation. We get enough run.
Also, the reason we do it all by hand is because it’s cheaper. We have plenty of helpers and we can get it done fast without buying somewhat expensive equipment
These girls weren’t city girls with no farm experience you can tell the way they knew how to stack the bales right and how to use the straps my sister even agrees with me
The girls are doing a great job stacking the load but if 1 was helping him and it was fair they would loose worse. Give them credit for working well together.
The real winner is still the guy. It's very telling that as a guy of his size and strength, he was able to compete with the strength and endurance of 2½ of the women. Meaning that if he had another helping hand, the girls wouldn't have stood a chance. If both sides had an additional person, the farm boys would have won. Looking at the stats.
Which city are these girls from? A better comparison would be girls from Omaha vs girls from LA or Harlem
These definitely aren’t LA city girls. We’re in central Texas, and they are local.
Ok, so, it takes three girls to do the same amount of work as one man. 😮 Got it!
Im not a farm boy... but load driver's side of your trailer then pull up to the next stack on the passenger side. Every foot you have to toss them adds up.
How did they know how to stack it perfectly if they didn't know how to stack it on the trailer 😂😂
And their straps are twisted not a proper strap down
lets see them do it again tomorrow tho!!
Need to do this with hay bales
Anybody who said these girls hasn't been on a farm are crazy. The simple way they stack the bales one way and then then stack the following layer in a way to interlock the stack from falling. That's learned from actually doing it, not from being told how. I've stacked many a bale and had people watch me and still can't get it right. That girl on the trailer was to efficient to be just a city girl coming to the country.
It’s not a hard stack to learn to do. We showed them how to stack before the video, and they did it the way we showed them🤷♂️
dutch farmers be like, let the pick up run slowley no need for a driver
I’m surprised the girls figured out the straps
Very fair, you could give to the guy some just for driving
The guy didn't even look like he was trying
