I've done intarsia knitting and crochet but never even made the connection to gemstones! I tend to lean toward natural specimens but these are stunning and the skill this must take is unfathomable!

Saw some intarsia at a gem and mineral show about 12 years ago and they were incredibly expensive but oh so lovely. Fire agate and black opal are my favorite gemstones. TFS

No. It said in the video they were all one of a kind.
They showed a nodule of Chert variety Flint and called it Black Onyx?
Flint/chert is predominantly microcrystalline quartz with varying impurities
Black onyx is also a microcrystalline quartz with varying impurities
Whilst you are correct in identifying that it was indeed chert, they weren't exactly wrong calling it onyx either.
Essentially the only discernable difference between chert and most jasper varieties is the size of the granulation within the specimen.
Whilst some may find the distinction important, after it's polished it would be near impossible to tell a finer grained material from a coarser one unless the piece had some visible banding along where one could see the crystal boundaries under magnification.
I like the sound filler you use. Please keep using it. 🙃

Gentle feedback now, the Japanese pronounce a hard g so it's soog(g as in granite) ee lite. We name minerals as the namer pronounces it. I often catch myself trying to call is soojilite too 😂
Still emphasis on the first syllable tho, so at least we're doing something right?
