I bought this game when it first released on steam and have over 1k hours now. When I started I got lost in red vs blue for hours with no idea what I was doing. I wish something like this video had been available back then. Well done Steve.
it was it was called the Learning To Survive scenario. you just didn't play it. they've since added multiple other tutorials in the list of available scenarios.
When you are flying to or from places to get the drop pods, you should have your drill equipped so you can potentially see any ore deposits you fly over.
Indeed, So many things still to learn. I found that as standard the game settings of x3 was too much and resources were just abundant so I stopped bothering - but you are right and on realistic settings its much better.
Just a suggestion, when you first appear in the drop pod at the start, hitting K and setting the ore detector range to max will identify ore within range of your landing location.
I like your video. I suggest that when transferring the med kit from the drop pod to your new base you weld it up to 100%, especially after mentioning how you need to have it operational for re-spawn. If you do the minimum then one unfortunate ding from anything and you loose your spawn point. Perhaps I've landed on hills too much but I like to leave one working landing gear on the drop pod, ether that or a pad of some sort on the down hill side, not that anything (cough) ever happened when I didn't. Instead of chasing rocks rolling away from you dig a small pit slightly down hill from the bolder your are mining. Emptying gravel from your base every so often is a good idea. It can be automated.
This us a great primer, and you're correct that you only need to weld to 80%, but the way you're doing it, you're wasting components by putting them in, but not welding to 100%. Manually adding components gives you some control over this.
You really should have used your battery time to scout Iron, cobalt out, then you could have build a cargo box. Also, turbine tower of height 12 with 4 turbines on spindle blocks at 11 height would have given you loads of power early on. Hand mining a load of cobalt and iron early would have served so much more than risking your only ship to mine stone. The connector also doesn't need to be hooked to inventory early on but can charge your ship still. Also you should really build that second battery on your ship since even the skeleton adds the full weight of the component to your build, so as it sits right now, you are carrying the weight of an extra battery without any of the benefits, same for those two thrusters.
Thanks for this amazing tut. Just bought this game and didn't have a clue what to do :) I don't what happened but my hydro tank is missing, and I can't figure out how to build a new one. Also I don't get any of those signals you get, there is a military base in the distance, went there and got killed :)
you probably should have waited because this start is no longer in the solo version of the game and most new players are going to click quick start from the main menu and get a completely different start still available (I think) in multiplayer on official servers, though I dont know how long that's going to last as ive heard rumor thats changing also
I’m on PlayStation and I never get the unidentified signals only one on the moon of my planet so I don’t get any to get items or scrap is this because I’m on PlayStation or what?
I'd would likely suggest making a cargo rover before making something that flies, especially something as important as a mining ship, purely so that new players would get used to the movement physics before they fully go airborne.
its a nice suggestion but everyone can go anyway they want and in my situation when i started years back i went straight for a ship ( there were no olanets then )
@CrowDawg11 If you want to go in that direction, you'd also have the framework for a rover in that landing pod. Would take about as much work to retrofit it to a rover as a mining ship, plus new players wouldn't know any of this off the bat without watching someone explain it first.
@@RosebudMartin I dunno, I find rovers more complicated to make than ships, and I think it would take more work to convert the clunky, round shape of the drop pod to a viable rover than to the basic mining ship he made in the video.
Can't get the dang turbine to stay up. First 1 crashed into the lake I landed on. Now I can't get it to snap on top of tower😂😂taking a break to vent a little and go right back.

This start is still in the newest version of the game, just different way of finding it.

I've just picked it up on ps5 and i was already confused, i was stuck at tutorial

@@gamerelite3989 yea, true. Anyone can do anything, but that's just my suggestion for new players who go straight into the starsystem scenario.
The thing is, you'd need to build a rover from scratch but you've already got a good framework for a mining ship in your drop pod.

make sure you are building the smaller of the two turbines, there is a large one that can be bit more difficult to build.
