A lot of Federal Minimum Security Prisons in the US famously don't have fences, usually hedges, but not fences. The facilities are comparably very nice, so mostly inmates won't take any chance of ending up somewhere else. There are probably state facilities which are similar, as well.

Oh and it was also prohibition era so alcohol distribution and consumption was illegal in many areas of America but especially down south. Ray and Claude were from New York so many of the things that happened to them were unfamiliar up north like segregation/whites only establishments and biased judicial systems.
Semi true, jim crow didn't exist up north but the policing and the judicial system, among other things were still very present up north
Just a little insight: back during this time and up through the civil rights era, the term "boy" was used to demean and belittle black men. So even though he was clearly much older, white people at the time used "boy" as a means to disrespect and emasculate black men bc they felt themselves superior. Nowadays it's not as outright but there are still areas and people who don't respect or consider adult black men as Men and so forth. But that's where I'll leave it. History and present day experience for black people is something that can be analyzed and dissected for days on end. Glad you took the time to enjoy this film, it really balanced comedy with some cold hard truths.
A movie 🍿🎥 I think you would enjoy is men of honor, a movie with Robert de Niro and Cuba gooding Jr. Great reactions keep em coming

Yeah we had a big list of 90's movies and some of them won a poll, and we always try to pick one that didn't win the poll to try and still be a bit fair, and we saw it was and Eddie Murphy movie, we were like, YEAH THIS ONE! 😊

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but the actor that played "Can't get right " in this movie is the same actor that played one of the bad guy's "new shocker" in Spiderman Homecoming.

Unpopular opinion here - I just can't get past the very sad and tragic premise of this movie. For anyone to have their entire life unjustly taken away from him is so sad, that I just can't laugh at any of the jokes in this movie.
