Joffrey's scenes definitely were perceived as longer in total. Probably for two reasons: Ned had far more calm or slow scenes without much dialogue. While Joffrey's were often loaded and aggravating to watch.

As far as I know the original plot was almost the same but without the other continent and the Targaeryens. Daenerys was added by GRRM years later before he started writing the first book. The origninal story was based on a love story between Jon and Arya which possibly means that they weren't planned to grow up as brother and sister first. (but aristocrates and incest, you know ...) Seems like GRRM just transfered all the original story elements he changed later into subplots.

He was forever the moral standard and high ground that all other characters were compared to, in our minds. And hey, two of his children became rulers in Westeros.
You know I didn't realize that Jorah was that high on the list for so long. Thinking about it now it makes sense, but it always felt like he had less than the 7th most screen time, I guess he was on screen a consistent amount of time, never too much, never too little as you stated.
For a show initially famous for how anyone can die at any time 11/15 top characters by screen time at the end first appear in episode 1 and half of those are still alive when the series ends.

Don't worry, Dany didn't die. The imposter pretending to be Daenerys is the one who died. They switched around season 7 and you can tell because the imposter does a lot of things that the actual Daenerys would obviously never do. There was a point mid-season 8 that Cersei’s screentime just completely stagnated. How they reduced the character so badly! Then again, it wasn’t just one character they butchered. The data description would be more clear if it said that they are cumulative. It would also be more coherent if Jon and Samwell’s colors were similar, categorizing them as brothers of the Night’s Watch. Otherwise, this was excellently done and ingenious enough.

it is such a shame that a filler character like Missandei can have longer screen time than a POV character Bran Stark till the very last two episodes (after she died).

2 things shocked me the most that was how long Ned was up on the list not moving an inch. The second is how in the end the difference in screen time between Tyrion and Jon is less than 60 seconds.
Towards the end, my man Davis got into the list and edged into top ten! Hurrah for the Onion Knight!

lol I love how long Ned Stark stays in the top 15 despite being entirely in one season and parts of others. Speaks volumes for his prominence as a character in this series.
