Outside of the main conflict with the southern lion house and the nortern house it's incredibly different, even that's a stretch because in ASOIAF the north are fighting for independence and the safety of there family where as the yorks in War of the Roses where more like a renly type who was a powerful courtier who seized the throne, remember the yorks are supposedly starks.

The brothel part is true, he fathered Bella in the Peach and Jon Connington, in his last chapter, the Griffin Reborn, remembers almost being killed by Robert at the battle

A knight of the seven kingdoms takes place 100 years before the event of GoTand brings together the first three prequel novels. then fire and blood (which I'm reading) is more in depth about the Targaryen three centuries reign. Also a history book about everything called the world of ice and fire of I'm correct. Those three and the box set of the GOT books are what you probably want. I did see research on it before I ordered and they cover whatever you need to know. I don't think Robert rebellion is told deeply in the books so this what a nice video lol

The books say she loved Rhaegar and the prince himself cared for her. Even in regards to Lyanna it’s likely she did not mind - the Martells fathered many Sands and did not view bastards as the other 6 kingdoms. Ellia couldn’t bare anymore children after her second - so it’s likely Rhaegar approached her with an understanding of wanting a third child, after all the dragon has three heads, with Lyanna they found a solution
@@mysticdragonwolf89 Whilst I'm sure that is how Rhaegar justified his decision to himself, it is highly unlikely that Elia agreed, since she was a smart girl and would have understood that such a move would be political suicide for her. She had already been passed up at Harrenhal in favour of Lyanna and Aerys hated her and her children- so even if Rhaegar had somehow gotten legal permission to marry Lyanna (unlikely) she and her kids would forever be in danger. That she seems to have loved Rhaegar just means it was all the worse a betrayal on his part. As is, running of with her (even IF it was consensual- whatever that means to a teenager) was phenomenally stupid, and likely informed by Rhaegar's delusion that he was destined to live in a 'I'm built different bro' kind of way. The bottom line is this; Rhaegar was an idiot- and he died for it.

Sooooo jaime literally beheaded his king so he wouldn't killed thousands of innocents but then saying he doesn't care about them on episode 5. Oooookay
He killed Aerys not because of the thousands of inhabitants of King's Landing, but because of his father who would be among the dead, along with several other Lannisters troops, he himself explains this in one episode. In Episode 5, he tries to return to Cersei for her to surrender and save the city from Daenerys' fury ... which ends up not working.

He cared about the people at first, it's why he killed Aerys. However, he never had a chance to explain his actions thanks to Ned Stark and was ostracized by the people as an oath breaker and kingslayer. Because of this he gave up on people

Robert stepped out of the brothel with a sword. Contrary to the post here, when Lord Tarly ambushed Robert, Robert didn't run. Robert fought despite the surpise but was clearly defeated by a better commander. He rushed to stony sept and hid in the brothels. When the battle of the bells ensued Jon Connington saw Robert inside a brothel and they fought using swords. Robert nearly killed Jon, that's why they retreated. Jon states this in the Book 5.

Every one-on-one battle he had resulted in his victory; Jon Connington, Rhaegar Targaryen, Balon Greyjoy, and several others. This and his personality are what make him one of my favorite characters in the work.
After the discovery of who Jon really is, you can see why Ned was always so protective in S1 when Robert would go on these blood thirsty rants seeping with rage in regards to killing the final standing Targaryen's. What an awful position he was in. Swallowing a lie for 20 years, that brought shame on his honor, caused Catelyn to feel like she was betrayed, and would've caused his best friend and King excruciating pain to know that Lyanna loved Rhaegar, and they bore a child together who he undoubtedly would've had murdered. Ned really was in a no-win situation, that put so many people that he loved and cared about at odds with eachother.
And if you have read the books And Ned's Pov , you would have known that Ned in that moment talking with Robert . Didn't think at all of jon he was worried about daenerys . He even said Robert wouldn't harm anyone with my blood . Just don't mix your interpretation with Ned's actual thoughts

Well, Game of Thrones has become the most mainstream ever on the media and popculture since Star Wars. I wouldn't surprised if one day the fanbase is as big if not bigger than Star Wars.
It was more so about overthrowing a mad tyrant than anything else. It was Aerys’ madness that led to Brandon and Rickard’s deaths. And it was only when he demanded Robert and Ned’s head from Jon Arryn that they rebelled. Ned’s family dying was more-so justification to overthrow Aerys, not the motivation for the rebellion.

This is simply a quick overview of the conquest from the book : The World Of Ice And Fire. There are many details left out in this video for time's sake. This is maybe a 5th of what happened. Get the book if you want to know more.
The best part is Robert in his youth is described as "six and a half feet tall and muscled like a maiden's fantasy" His warhammer is huge. In real life, a warhammer is about 10 pounds max. About the same weight as a house cat. Robert's was about 100 pounds. About the same weight as 2 Michael Ceras.
I just realized Robert’s rebellion is probably based of the Trojan war: Rhaegar/Paris abducts Lyanna/Helen from Robert/Menelaos and gets help from his bro Eddard/Agamemnon. Not to mention how Tywin tricked Aerys to open the gates only to wreck havoc trojan horse style
I actually really like this concept. It'd expand the scope of the channel while still being true to its premise. I could see all sorts of fictional battles in the future, from Tolkien's stuff, etc. Good stuff!
While I admire Tolkein for his mastery of bringing beauty out of the English language, I always found his battles dull. The good guys would always kill at least 10 bad guys for every man lost, even when they technically lost the battle. It was predictable and boring in my opinion.
And more to the point, they didn't really provide a clear picture of what happened. That would lead to speculation, which isn't really what these series are about.
Fuzzy Dunlop what about the fall of Gondolin? The good guys got slaughter and barely killed any of the bad guys? Battle of Unnumbered tears? They good guys lost the battle and lost so many men but barely killed the bad guys. Not every battle in Tolkien’s work is boring, just got to look for it
Considering Lyanna was in Dorne, I believe Rhaegar and Elia might have had some kind of agreement which the leader of Dorne accepted. Otherwise in no way would Lyanna's presence be acceptable there with so little protection

Oberyn never marry,yes they are more modern than the rest of westeros they still value marriage . And show Rhaegar annulled his marriage to Elia if they knew of that they would have joined the rebels . 2- dorne sided with the crown bcz Elia martell and her children were hold HOSTAGES by the mad king .
@@Cudeus Stannis wasn't that dangerous (in this specific case). I love Stannis, but he is more of a strategist/commander than a straight fighter, and his army was quite small. As is, he probably would not have made that big a difference as a full army of the Reach that could have doubled Rhaegar's army size or more. After all, the best way to overcome an numbers difference IS fortification. Even if Stannis could leave, I think he'd stay to threaten Tyrell supply lines or even just raid the Reach with no-one left to guard it.

This story should be the spinoff for game of thrones. This is really interesting even without the WhiteWalkers. GOT makers should make a spinoff. It can easily last 5 seasons.

Quick point to add to this, Robert didn’t just get the throne as he was the leader of the winning rebellion (although this was definitely a huge factor) but he also had a legitimate (albeit distant) blood claim to the throne as his grandmother was Rhaelle Targaryen. This is why when Cersei confronts Ned and asks him why he didn’t seize the throne for himself, he mentions Robert having the greater claim (a justification he also uses with Renly IIRC). This is why I love the books, there’s the deliberate irony of Robert despising all Targaryens despite being part Targaryen himself, and the discussion of what makes a king (might vs right) is discussed throughout.

This is so real realistically narrated that for a moment I thought this was the real history of the world and ours just some fairytale. Maybe it's like that in some parallel universe.
except dragons, dragonfire the names valyrian steel white walkers magic a 700 meter wall people who can see through animals eyes, people who can see everything, children of the forest. the faceless men and much more, but yeah the game of thrones itself is very nicely narrated and the world is incredibly well built.

Flying carriages that could transport hundreds of combatants from Winterfell to Dorne in mere hours, black crossbows that fire tiny metal bolts at incredible speed and rate, rocks that explode throwing countless metal bits around it, easily wiping out small squads, armored carriages that's impervious to most weapons, flying carriages that breathes explosive fire and are faster and has superior range compared to dragons, metal ships that have big explosive arrows that could level King's Landing in a few hours, then there's the GOD FIRE, this thing wipes out cities in mere seconds killing hundreds of thousands like it's nothing. Don't even get me started on 'drowns' imagine a wight suddenly growing wings and being able to breath a superior version of dragon fire.
It should be added that Robert claimed the throne because he had Targaryen lineage. His grandmother was Rhaelle Targaryen, who was an aunt of the Mad King - Robert and Aerys were therefore cousins once removed.
True, his claim was military above all else. But he did technically have a legal claim as well, which probably played a role in many houses at least publicly accepting Robert as the new king. With Aerys and Rhaegar dead, and Viserys and Daenerys excluded (children of the mad king), Robert was legally the next in line to the throne.
+G-Rex Saurus If your military is powerful enough to take and hold whatever it is you want, then claims don't really matter. Claims are legitimate if you have the power to make people honor your claim. Otherwise it's just words.
Just a minor correction. King Aerys always listened to the counsel of Varys, but when Lord Tywin's army was the their gates, Varys advised King Aerys that they cannot be trusted, but, out of desperation, King Aerys listened to Grand Maester Pycelle whom advised they should open the gates for the Lannister army.

I second this. I think it's great to do both. Obviously keep the main focus historical because that's what this channel was based on but I think it's a great way to grab more viewers and it really puts a lot of these battles I've read about into perspective.
well, technically the channel is "BazBattles" not "BazHistoricalBattles". Altough I fully support keeping it focused on reality, some battles from fiction are a great addition, especially those that do not appear in the TV versions of their universe

This is hands-down the best infographic I have seen explaining the mess which is the history of the books. Had a very Sid Meier's Civilization feel to it and I actually learned something new from it!
Point of contention: Tywin Lannister did NOT order his men to murder Elia, just her children: Tywin: "Elia need not have been harmed at all, that was sheer folly. By herself she was nothing." Tyrion: "Then why did the Mountain kill her?" Tywin: "Because I did not tell him to spare her. I doubt I mentioned her at all."

This would have been a guarantee that Dorne wouldn't take action against the realm. instead, she dies. This leads to Doran Martell secretly pledging his daughter to Viserys, Oberyn Martell seething with murderous intent over her death, the whole of Dorne waiting for a reason to rebel, the foolhardy quest of Quentyn Martell (leading to his death), etc. Granted, this could have also led to a discovery by the Lannisters that Elia's son Aegon had been replaced with an imposter from Pisswater Bend, which would have thrown many of Varys' and Illyrio's plans awry. But, no matter what, Tywin Lannister STILL did not order his men to kill her. Sure, it's a bit of a nitpick, but that's just how obsessive I am over the book series.
This was such a great video! I'll be honest, I clicked on the video because it was about GoT, but seeing how nicely made it is I'll definitely be checking your other stuff.
Couple of factual errors here: Robert Baratheon was present at the Battle of Gulltown. He was the first on the walls, slaying Lord Marq Grafton is a duel. After that, he took a ship to Storm's End. The first major victory for the rebels was in Gulltown. The Battle of the Bells, far from being the first major victory, was the turning point of the rebel fortunes, as their beleaguered commander Robert was able to link up with Eddard Stark, Hoster Tully, and Denys Arryn (who would die in the battle in combat with Jon Connington). Almost as important as the loss of Rhaegar Targaryen at the Trident was the loss of the three Kingsguard knights who were Rhaegar's subcommanders. Lewyn Martell was slain by the Vale troops, Barristan Selmy was captured by the Northmen, and Jonothor Darry was slain by the Riverlander troops under Hoster Tully. The loss of those commanders meant that no commander was present to rally the fleeing forces, to retreat to King's Landing and bolster their defenses. There was a minor battle with the Greyjoys off the Mander following the Trident. Lord Quellon Greyjoy, father to Balon and a dedicated reformer, was killed in a worthless skirmish near the Shield Islands in the Reach fighting the Shield Islands navy. Robert was acclaimed before the Battle of the Trident by the overwhelming assent of his bannermen. He did not want the position, nor was this decision made following the Sack of King's Landing. Pretty sure roberts rebellion will never be a tv show because everybody already knows about it. It was talked about at great length in the books and on the show. The spin offs are going to be new untold stories.

Mace Tyrell is that one vassal ally in CK2, that simply refuses to attach his 8k army to yours and instead besieges some remote areas of the enemy realm.
@@JoSheperd also smart considering he played both sides. If targaryens won , mace would say , we seiged rober for you my king, when robert won. He was like I did not do much damage to you or was not an active participant and his army for the most part was still intact.
@@JoSheperdStannis barely had any solider, Mace had the largest army in the Seven Kingdoms. He just went and sieged one of the most impregneble castles with his giant army. It's super dumb, if he went after Robert he would have crushed the rebellion.
This was amazingly done it felt so real. It was like watching someone describe genuine history and not a fictions story. Seriously guys a big well done.

I'm always happy when a video takes care to have subtitles in different languages because it's not just people from a single country who are going to watch the video. That was awesome. One little thing though - and this is really just nitpicking - Robert was crowned because he had the closest ties to the Targaryen bloodline while not being a Targaryen.

Great video. Really well done and accurate. Except for one piece. They didn't make Robert King because he was the only one who wanted the crown, it was because Jon Arryn realized he was the only one they could legitimize because (I believe) his grandmother was a Targaryen.
Robert was clearly the leader of the Rebellion and won the crown by conquest. The bloodline to the Targaryens was just basic justification- he won that throne.
Basic justification or not it was the stated reason why he took the throne instead of Ned or John, who could both claim royal ancestry but not in the same way as Robert could.
@@BigZ282 Robert conquered that crown. Being the son of a former Hand of the King and grandson of a Targaryen only made him suitable on paper. All conquerers and throne takers do this- Kublai Khan made himself a retroactive Emperor of China, James VI of Scotland made himself James I of England, Alexander the Great counted himself Darius' successor etc
there was a few other things that weren't correct, for instance Tywin and Aerys were friends long before Aerys made him hand, they befriended eachother during the war of the ninepenny kings, Also Tywin didnt order the death or rape of Elia he merely told Gregor and Amory to kill the children he didnt know they would do the shit they did to Elia, he admits as much to Tyrion that he simply overlooked Elia im sure. He also wasnt pleased by the manner in which they killed the kids, (he believes they shoulda just smothered the princess instead of stabbing her half a billion times)

It is much more sad when you realise Rhaegar didn't even love Lyanna to begin with, he was more interested in producing a third heir with Lyanna because of his strong belief of the Azor prophecy, since Elia fell ill shortly after the birth of her second child, he didn't even care that Robert was in love with Lyanna.

It’s really cool to see a fictional story presented and analyzed as genuine history. It lends a legitimacy to everything that makes it seem much more real, and enthralling.

Tywin didn’t order to kill Elia, just her children. He just neglected to tell Clegane and Lorch to let her live and to make the children’s deaths ‘clean’ but those pea brained psychopaths made a mess out of it

Which titles are the prequels? Should I start with them or the with the game of thrones book?
A knight of the seven kingdoms takes place 100 years before the event of GoTand brings together the first three prequel novels. then fire and blood (which I'm reading) is more in depth about the Targaryen three centuries reign. Also a history book about everything called the world of ice and fire of I'm correct. Those three and the box set of the GOT books are what you probably want. I did see research on it before I ordered and they cover whatever you need to know. I don't think Robert rebellion is told deeply in the books so this what a nice video lol

Ellia couldn’t bare anymore children after her second - so it’s likely Rhaegar approached her with an understanding of wanting a third child, after all the dragon has three heads, with Lyanna they found a solution

She had already been passed up at Harrenhal in favour of Lyanna and Aerys hated her and her children- so even if Rhaegar had somehow gotten legal permission to marry Lyanna (unlikely) she and her kids would forever be in danger. That she seems to have loved Rhaegar just means it was all the worse a betrayal on his part.
As is, running of with her (even IF it was consensual- whatever that means to a teenager) was phenomenally stupid, and likely informed by Rhaegar's delusion that he was destined to live in a 'I'm built different bro' kind of way.
The bottom line is this; Rhaegar was an idiot- and he died for it.

When the battle of the bells ensued Jon Connington saw Robert inside a brothel and they fought using swords. Robert nearly killed Jon, that's why they retreated. Jon states this in the Book 5.

After the discovery of who Jon really is, you can see why Ned was always so protective in S1 when Robert would go on these blood thirsty rants seeping with rage in regards to killing the final standing Targaryen's.
What an awful position he was in. Swallowing a lie for 20 years, that brought shame on his honor, caused Catelyn to feel like she was betrayed, and would've caused his best friend and King excruciating pain to know that Lyanna loved Rhaegar, and they bore a child together who he undoubtedly would've had murdered.
Ned really was in a no-win situation, that put so many people that he loved and cared about at odds with eachother.

Robert's Rebellion was all about avenging Ned Stark's dead family.
It was more so about overthrowing a mad tyrant than anything else. It was Aerys’ madness that led to Brandon and Rickard’s deaths. And it was only when he demanded Robert and Ned’s head from Jon Arryn that they rebelled. Ned’s family dying was more-so justification to overthrow Aerys, not the motivation for the rebellion.

Battle of the Trident would be epic to watch
I actually really like this concept. It'd expand the scope of the channel while still being true to its premise. I could see all sorts of fictional battles in the future, from Tolkien's stuff, etc. Good stuff!
While I admire Tolkein for his mastery of bringing beauty out of the English language, I always found his battles dull. The good guys would always kill at least 10 bad guys for every man lost, even when they technically lost the battle. It was predictable and boring in my opinion.
And more to the point, they didn't really provide a clear picture of what happened. That would lead to speculation, which isn't really what these series are about.

@@Cudeus Stannis wasn't that dangerous (in this specific case). I love Stannis, but he is more of a strategist/commander than a straight fighter, and his army was quite small. As is, he probably would not have made that big a difference as a full army of the Reach that could have doubled Rhaegar's army size or more.
After all, the best way to overcome an numbers difference IS fortification. Even if Stannis could leave, I think he'd stay to threaten Tyrell supply lines or even just raid the Reach with no-one left to guard it.

Quick point to add to this, Robert didn’t just get the throne as he was the leader of the winning rebellion (although this was definitely a huge factor) but he also had a legitimate (albeit distant) blood claim to the throne as his grandmother was Rhaelle Targaryen. This is why when Cersei confronts Ned and asks him why he didn’t seize the throne for himself, he mentions Robert having the greater claim (a justification he also uses with Renly IIRC).
This is why I love the books, there’s the deliberate irony of Robert despising all Targaryens despite being part Targaryen himself, and the discussion of what makes a king (might vs right) is discussed throughout.

True, his claim was military above all else. But he did technically have a legal claim as well, which probably played a role in many houses at least publicly accepting Robert as the new king. With Aerys and Rhaegar dead, and Viserys and Daenerys excluded (children of the mad king), Robert was legally the next in line to the throne.

King Aerys always listened to the counsel of Varys, but when Lord Tywin's army was the their gates, Varys advised King Aerys that they cannot be trusted, but, out of desperation, King Aerys listened to Grand Maester Pycelle whom advised they should open the gates for the Lannister army.

I second this. I think it's great to do both. Obviously keep the main focus historical because that's what this channel was based on but I think it's a great way to grab more viewers and it really puts a lot of these battles I've read about into perspective.

This leads to Doran Martell secretly pledging his daughter to Viserys, Oberyn Martell seething with murderous intent over her death, the whole of Dorne waiting for a reason to rebel, the foolhardy quest of Quentyn Martell (leading to his death), etc.
Granted, this could have also led to a discovery by the Lannisters that Elia's son Aegon had been replaced with an imposter from Pisswater Bend, which would have thrown many of Varys' and Illyrio's plans awry.
But, no matter what, Tywin Lannister STILL did not order his men to kill her. Sure, it's a bit of a nitpick, but that's just how obsessive I am over the book series.

The first major victory for the rebels was in Gulltown. The Battle of

of the rebel fortunes, as their beleaguered commander Robert was able
to link up with Eddard Stark, Hoster Tully, and Denys Arryn (who would
die in the battle in combat with Jon Connington).
Almost as important as the loss of Rhaegar Targaryen at the Trident was
the loss of the three Kingsguard knights who were Rhaegar's

Robert was acclaimed before the Battle of the Trident by the
overwhelming assent of his bannermen. He did not want the position, nor
was this decision made following the Sack of King's Landing.

Mace Tyrell is that one vassal ally in CK2, that simply refuses to attach his 8k army to yours and instead besieges some remote areas of the enemy realm.
It was actuall smart in a way to keep Stannis sieged so he couldnt join Roberts forces
@@JoSheperd also smart considering he played both sides. If targaryens won , mace would say , we seiged rober for you my king, when robert won. He was like I did not do much damage to you or was not an active participant and his army for the most part was still intact.

One little thing though - and this is really just nitpicking - Robert was crowned because he had the closest ties to the Targaryen bloodline while not being a Targaryen.
Blood Raven he was the leader of the rebellion and won the crown by force- the Targaryen linkage is just a lame justification of it.
Well, I think since Eddard refered to it in a discussion with Robert, so to a certain degree it mattered to the Lords.

Great video. Really well done and accurate. Except for one piece. They didn't make Robert King because he was the only one who wanted the crown, it was because Jon Arryn realized he was the only one they could legitimize because (I believe) his grandmother was a Targaryen.

Robert was clearly the leader of the Rebellion and won the crown by conquest. The bloodline to the Targaryens was just basic justification- he won that throne.
Basic justification or not it was the stated reason why he took the throne instead of Ned or John, who could both claim royal ancestry but not in the same way as Robert could.
@@BigZ282 Robert conquered that crown. Being the son of a former Hand of the King and grandson of a Targaryen only made him suitable on paper. All conquerers and throne takers do this- Kublai Khan made himself a retroactive Emperor of China, James VI of Scotland made himself James I of England, Alexander the Great counted himself Darius' successor etc
there was a few other things that weren't correct, for instance Tywin and Aerys were friends long before Aerys made him hand, they befriended eachother during the war of the ninepenny kings, Also Tywin didnt order the death or rape of Elia he merely told Gregor and Amory to kill the children he didnt know they would do the shit they did to Elia, he admits as much to Tyrion that he simply overlooked Elia im sure. He also wasnt pleased by the manner in which they killed the kids, (he believes they shoulda just smothered the princess instead of stabbing her half a billion times)
