The FG did really good considering the the PR was 3 x the length and therefore should have had a better purchase/grip on the line. If you did each knot the same length as each other, both long and short I think you would get some surprising results.
I have been using the fg knot for a long time and it never fail on me.
For the PR knot the average of your tests was 16.334 with a standard deviation of 3.0903. For the FG knot the average was 17.358 with a standard deviation of only 1.5575. Knowing that the FG knot was stronger and was more consistent. I would take that any day.
Well that's all due to the one outlier the PR had in the 4th test. Without that, the results were almost identical.
In fact the 4th one shouldn't be calculated because it's too far to normal ,for science experiments we don't count abnormal one

try 130# mono to 130 braid. PR bobbing knot won every time when I did the test. Both time, the FG broke in the middle of the the knot. I use the bobbing tool when I do PR knot.

I use this for repairing self-bows (custom wood long-bows for hunting). Holds strong.

One of the things I think or notice in the assessment of both knots; how are you comparing both lines lbs. to lbs.?Example: 10lbs braid line and 10 lbs leader line test, or etc..20lbs braid line and 20 lbs leader line test.
I do not use the same lbs braided line and same lbs leader line. There is a different for each line and each knot. So what are you guys using to determine the tests.
Did you test the line without the knot as a base comparison?
Also, was it also always the fluorocarbon/mono that broke?
I have heard that the way the braid ‘bites’ into the mono, can stress it, and have been advised to up the poundage by 25% to compensate and to make sure I sure saliva to ‘grease’ it before syncing the knot.
Your thoughts?
I’ve found the pr knot a much neater tighter knot
Haven’t had one fail but have had a couple of fg knots unravel in the past
Both are great knots. The slight difference in strength should not bother fishermen because it's usually the knot at the hook or swivel (if one is using it) that weakens a mono and causes the break.

Try to do thes knot, letting the turns of the braid on the mono, more spaced. More spaced, the turns, when tightened, they ''bite'' the mono, creating steps between each laps os the braid, and de grip is so much bigger! then the mono non slip´. Great video!!
From the video and previous experience the FG knot doesn’t fail the leader always breaks behind the knot. Anytime I have had a FG fail the leader broke behind the knot. I’ve never tied the PR
Great test the variable breakage is amazing a better test is the under water test ,that would change the outcome,I’m guessing?
Fair point. May reduce line burn resulting in a slightly higher reading. In reality, it would be difficult to test based on the equipment we have available to us.
I have a suspicion that PR has been wound down tight rather than spiraled before winding back over. Just by the way it came undone. The wraps have seperated under the line stretch and the mainline basically un-spooled. Just a suspicion.

Six one way half a dozen the other. I’ll take the less complicated knot, that I can tie without a tool, of these two perfectly adequate knots. FG for me.

Hi guys. Great info. Just curious with some of the videos I have watched regarding comparing the FG with other knots it appeared on most occasions the mono/braid parted either side of the knot but the knot itself was intact. Was hard to tell on most of your tests. Your thoughts appreciated.
You are correct. That does occur in most cases. We were testing the overall line strength.

We haven't Stephen, but it's certainly a test we'd like to perform in coming episodes.
Anyone else think theres no way that the PR knot jumped from 16 to 11lbs
This was not a fair test the PR knot had a much bigger surface grip on the mono. Do the test again with both knots with the same grip length and I would imagine the FG knot will be supreme.
Thats like saying its not fair to test Palomar vs uni because the uni wraps around more lol

Lots of comments saying the leader breaks with FG. I have experienced the same.. My own test shows the leader breaks. But what is actually happening is the FG squeezes the leader and cuts the leader. With thicker braid and thicker leader this is less likely to happen.
If I am not mistaken the PR knot also uses the same principle of squeezing the leader. Only difference is the wrap goes round one way then comes over in the opposite direction in the PR. Whereas it overlaps alternately in the FG.
The knots seem similar in results. You should throw out the highest and lowest to get a better pool.

The PR knot that broke at 11 lb is way to far off the average and might be due to other variables and even fails the Qtest. Its due to that result that everyone thinks on average the FG is stronger where actually that result is only true due to a other variable that wasn't remove from the equation

Simple is always better! In 2018 the IGAF tested over 50 knots of braid to mono and braid to floral with there Electro Mechanical Tension tester and the simplest knot turned out to be the strongest!! According to the IGAF the (GT) is the strongest proving that old saying(KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID)🤣!!
I noticed that the PR knot fails and the leader fails with FG knot, I’ll go with FG knot.

Was the test done on both knots with the same pertaining leaders? The test should be done on fresh none stressed leader every time.

Looks like the pr failed at the knot in one of the tests. Hard to tell,.. should do a slow mo to see where they broke.
Bottom line: tie FGs and have more time for fishing...
