I have been taught to file until I can't see that seem/line of file dust. It's a little hard to explain but hopefully you know what I mean 😅 as long as there's still a line of dust from the filing there's still a little blending left to do, and as soon as that "dusty line" is gone the tip is blended enough. That's what I've been taught anyway, I think it's easy to know when I'm done this way 😊🥰

You can end up with bulky sides and if you don't blend you could file some of your colours or design off especially if you are not keeping your layers nice and thin.☺

I file the tips before I put them on because I’m scared of hitting the natural nail too much (I’m still in cosmetology school)

Why does tip crack or fray when i gently file blend?
to much alcohol cleanser on the tips - I hope this helps
What is the need to blend the tips?
If you're not using acrylics & just gel to cover them, then you get a ridge if you don't blend them properly.
You can end up with bulky sides and if you don't blend you could file some of your colours or design off especially if you are not keeping your layers nice and thin.☺
