Badminton Inlay Cutting Boards

  • This was a really exciting project. Every year we organize a badminton tournament and always have some gifts for the participants. Two years ago, for example, I made a small bowl for everyone. You can see how I made that in my 98 bowls video: • 98 Bowls
This year I made seven end grain cutting boards for seven lucky people who won in the tombola.
And for those who didn't win, I made this video so that they can at least see how they're made.
This video has been shown live in the evening of the tournament and because of that, I spent a little bit more time for the editing. (I used Adobe Premiere Pro for that)
The cutting boards are made out of maple, oak and walnut, which I bought rough sawn. This was then processed step by step into the required lumber for this project. Everything was glued together with waterproof glue (Kleiberit 303). The finish I used is an oil-wax mixture for kitchen counter tops. I thought I'd give it a try on a cutting board. The can said the oil would soak in and harden while leaving another protective layer of wax on top. That's also the case, but it didn't really soak into the wood as much as I'd like it to. But the colors are still very nice. It's called: Osmo-TopOil 3058

Oh, and these boards are awesome :)
I was wandering how the heck did you to the badminton feather-thing inlay... and then the CNC appeared. Nice job :)

My favorite is just before the 4:00 mark, where the kerfs appear, and then then the layout assembles itself. Also the "hero shot" of the CNC at 4:22 made me smile. Terrific video!

As an amateur with woodworker, i typically feel overpowered with the entire arrangement th-cam.com/users/postUgkxrYREG3-7f1Aqk9ams3ZESRNzGnfdUtyQ . Be that as it may, this arrangements drove me through with much clarity and effortlessness woodplans. Works i now work like a genius. That is great!
