Just wanted to say thanks a bunch for this vid. First time it happened, I sent it back to Sony, but that involved waiting on hold for hours for a person, and then paying to ship it to them. Second controller just popped, and luckily, I found your vid and ordered some springs off eBay. Took me about 20mins in all, and that included searching for the spring on the ground multiple times, lol. Really appreciate your work here. I'm set for the next three times, hah.
Never had the confidence to seriously open up any electronic device before. Your video gave me the confidence to work through it an perform the repair on my PS5 controller. Thanks!
Hey, glad it was able to help. In all honest, I actually broke maybe three of four DualShocks and DualSenses before I was able to confidently open one up loooolll
I think opening these is pretty easy compared to fixing smartphones. Biggest mistake you can make is to get impatient and use to much Force. Videos like this are great for beginners helped me a lot
Watched a few similar videos but found this was def the most helpful so many thanks. I had to replace L2 spring found it was easier to place the spring so it went into the groove on the back, then bend the spring in the button groove. Also found that the little orange lego tool they give in some sets was a great for opening the control
Honestly, I have no idea what Sony thought would happen to these springs... Bought a Dualsense for my PC after my original DS4 controller gave up (after like 8 years of extensive use). That one out of the box already had this clicky sound and barely any resistence when using the R2 like something came off inside. Right back to the store and replaced it there. Now after half a year this replacement controller has the same phenomenom... I'll probably keep going for a little more until I can't take the difference in feeling while playing anymore... Definitely bookmarking this vid until then. Thanks for the clear guide!
Mine finally broke so thank you for the video. Hopefully Sony will find a way to fix this issue. These springs breaking is inevitable because the amount of stress they take but it's ridiculous people have had these for 3 months and are having to repair these things.
thanks my dude. my trigger springs also broke even just after a few months of use and decided ill DIY it. ordered the springs from shopee. kinda messed up tearing the controller apart, didnt see the latches at the lower part lol, but that's fine. anyway, controller's all good as new now.
Thankfully it was only the R2 pring that broke and didnt require that much disassembly to get to the spring area, but now I know why they send you 10 of them. I only lost 3 of them when they went flying after I couldnt get the bottom to latch haha.
Same thing happened to my controller. Used the springs from an old ps4 controller for now. I would recommend buying them on amazon in bulk to avoid paying so much per spring. I got some 30 piece set for like $6.50 USD.
Nice Video. I had the same problem where my R2 Spring just broke after using the controller for like 3 month. I didn't have a Ps4 Controller laying around here only a Ps3 Controller. Well i have to say that the Spring out of the Ps3 Controller (after bending a bit) feels pretty similar to the Dual Sense Spring :)
You mention at the end that the replacement spring may not uphold as well as the original, has there been any better accessible designs that you've seen since the making lf this video?
Yeah in this video, I used the Dualshock 4 spring if I recall correctly. These days, there are DualSense-specific springs you can get on Amazon or Shopee or Lazada or whatever popular global e-commerce store you guys have.
Both my controllers went bad on the R2 springs. Got the first replaced under warranty. Second one went bad today. No warranty left. Sony have changed the springs to a thicker one on the newer models so they are aware of the bad design.
I don't know the exact terms and conditions especially where I'm from. If you are covered by warranty, I'd recommend you refrain from opening it up yourself, might void your warranty.
I'm having a different problem with my R2 button, and no video on TH-cam or anywhere else seems to talk about it. I hear a really faint squeaking noise when I press the button. I can make it go away usually by simply blowing inside of it, but it keeps coming back. I used some 90° rubbing alcohol to clean it outside and that seems to fix it for a bit, but with enough presses I hear it again. The button itself doesn't feel loose so I don't think the spring is the problem, and I'd really like to avoid opening it up (since the warranty should still be valid, it'll be a year since I've had it next month). Any suggestions on what might be the problem? It's not even that annoying, it just bothers me lol
What you are showing at 5:29 is a Dualshock 4 v1 Spring and a Dualsense v1 Spring. Dualsense v2 has the same springs as the Dualshock 4 v2 which are supposed to be better.
Can you? There's a small metal rod that runs across a loop/bracket through L2 and R2. You have to unscrew the entire adaptive trigger assembly to access the rod to pop it out.
@@BimBurger Dunno what you are looking at, but yes you can pull it off. TronicsFix (popular repair channel) has shown this a few times in his later Dual Sense repair videos. There is. Maybe I should make a video about that specifically.

Check if there are broken plastic pieces. Make sure the spring has something to press against.
Damn, why is my issue always different? In my case, it’s the L2 buttons that’s gotten loose. Is it just as “easy” with that button?
