Hi, a vacuum enthusiast here. Do not upgrade to S8 if you already own an S7MaxV, or an older model even. Reason is there is no significant upgrade on S8. Some reviewers said that the pickup isn’t that great. Also Roborocks are very unreliable and will break in 2 years. I recommend going with a Roomba J7. Not the Combo J7, just the J7. Another thing to note here, S8’s water tank is unremovable, so if anything happens to the water tank, your robot is done. And roborock support doesn’t help as well. Keep your S7s.

Hi Quinn, 5:28 you mention zero carpet contact and then the robot drives directly onto the carpet raises the mop but it is still touching.. 3:09 I think it’s no coincidence that 20 years after the original Roomba debuted with its dual-brush design that a competitor has finally decided to follow suit.

The S8 has received outstanding reviews everywhere, so I don't find this review biased at all. I know the price is very high, but I tried to figure out how much it would cost to have a person come into our large home, vacuum every carpeted area (including under three beds), and wash every hard-surface floor. You'd be lucky paying a person $200 each time. In about 2 months, the Roborock would have paid for itself. We have had an S6 on each floor for three years, and they have paid for themselves many times over. Watch the reviews and find the robot that works best for your needs within your budget. In my opinion, for my needs, Roborock is the best.

Some people say the S7 single roller is better.
    I got an S8.
On my wood floor it does a good job sucking up fine "sandy" debris. The really small ones you feel when draging a finger on the floor.
    Always using Turbo mode.
    Another thing to mention.
A few millimeters out where the carpet line goes. It leaves this sandy feel also. It cant suck it up.
BUT in the kitchen we have a softer kind of floor.
And for some reason it perform worse there. The sandy feel is mostly left. When I run it in MAX mode. Its abit better but not 100%.
I dont really get it? Maybe the floor is slighlty more sticky. Or dual rollers are worse.
I wish I had an S7 just to compare if the single roller works better here.
    And another thing iv noticed.
Since the rollers on all roborocks is between the wheels. The side brush cant deal with stuff like this along walls. Even If I see its brushing over it.
And all the fine "sticky" stuff stays where it is anyway. 😐

Excellent review, I don't need anything this fancy but it's cool to see. I have hardwood and travertine with no pets, so I've been looking at mopping solutions. Being disabled means mopping is my kryptonite. I bought a eufy 25c? quite a while ago, and it does the job pretty ok for general sweeping. I love robot vacs. The CS on Roborock sucks though. The flexible boot got cut within the first month for me. When I contacted them they just said it didn’t affect operation and that’s it.
Also the software is buggy. When I ask it to clean a specific room, it went into all the rooms and trashed a iPad I had on the floor.
I also wish that it used the lidar to not bang into objects as i think just for mapping. Your furniture legs will have wear marks for the constant banging. As long as you can accept that.
Also wished that when the vac is tilted it stops rather than try to mount and shred the item. For example items on the ground. Also the angle legs it will try to climb. Like low angle leg tripod stands for music sheets for example.
Also you need to clean the device despite the automatic docking feature.
Just things you need to know. Despite shortcomings I really like a robot vac just not this brand which I would say acts very Chinese as I would say as a person who has worked for and dealt with Chinese brands. Meaning once they have your money you’re on your own

I’ve linked our ethics statement in the video description. We don’t permit more than 10% of script edits by brands on fully dedicated videos and we don’t utilize marketing decks when building out our script. In this particular video, Roborock didn’t request a single revision to the script or video. This was all my doing. With that said, the content is sponsored, so it’s reasonable to take it with a grain of salt; however, I’ve historically only done sponsored videos on products I genuinely believe are good.
As for Marc’s comment, I don’t know what he’s on about. There’s an audible disclosure the second you start the video. I’ve gone so FAR beyond the legal disclosure requirements it actively hurts the performance of these videos. If I was really trying to deceive and hide, I’d do it like a lot of other TH-camrs.

I have recently bought a Roborock S8. There is a problem with is wall and obstacle system. It cannot detect the low hight objects close to walls and doors. For example, low hight cornice around walls are not detected and the robot keeps hiting them and makes odd and silly movements.
    This result in:
    - scraches on the device body and cornice
    - mopping/vaccuming takes longer due to the unnecessary movements
    - higher energy usage
To fix this, I had to edit the map and draw virtual walls manually infront of the walls. Unfortunatly there is also a stupid limit for using virtual walls!
I contacted Roborock support. They said that this has not been reported by anybody else so they will take no action and I have to follow that through the seller!

My biggest problem isn’t no go zones but rather small cat toys jamming up the main brush area. I have an Uoni robot which does a decent job for an older generation, has mopppng capabilities but it’s terrible and we never use it. Thankfully we don’t have carpet anywhere so manual cleanings are fairly mundane and quick to carry out.
I’m curious if the camera features and AI are smart enough to work around small objects like cat toys, because our cats will leave a mine field in most of the rooms in our house and we just have to be home when the robot is working otherwise it will get stuck and never finish the job.

which would you recommend for sewing thread pickup/tangling. Also avoiding a mirror that is 2 inches off the ground please ? also bagless would be good but not a deal breaker. thank you

These robovacs are fun. Sadly they would be no use to me, as I just have too much stuff. They would miss too many nooks and crannies. Also, they would not be able to get up the couple of stairs I have to the bathroom and kitchen!

I will wait for Roborock to sponsor me and provide a free s8 pro ultra as well! I like my S5 but after 2 months, I honestly never used the mop function cause it sucks and the dust roller with bristles needs to be cleansed almost every day to not get stuck with long hairs...

I ordered both the s7 maxV and the S8 to compare them . I feel this video is disappointing because the S8 still has navigation issues when it comes to small items on the floor , build quality still flimsy and so i can’t say it’s an incredible and 18% more suction power or whatnot. Stuff like this is how you lose subscribers and I really like this channel. This is based on trust and trust is easily lost. I listened to your video as I watched the robots side by side and I felt most comparisons made were untrue or heavily exaggerated

It looks like the same problem I have with S7 MaxV Ultra, is going to be on this new vacuum. I never refill the water tank on the vacuum on my own, because it auto fills it, but today, I was looking at the cashback offer, and cleaning it up for pictures, and there is brown build up or mold/mildew in the tank! So I have been cleaning my floors with dirty water! gross! I have found the same brown mildew in my clean water tank too, but Today is the first time I even looked at the vacuum's water tank. Please come out with a better solution to add to the Roborock products! It says you are only allowed to use Roborock cleaning solution, so now I don't know what to do!

I've been using the Dreame X10 Pro for a while now, and this robotic vacuum cleaner features a rotating mop instead of a vibrating one. The X10 Pro has almost all the features of the RoboRock S8 Pro Ultra, even outperforming it in some aspects, except for the dual brushes. Both have 6k pa suction power, 3D structured light with AI-assisted obstacle avoidance, and the ability to identify frequently blocked/stuck areas. They can also automatically recognize, identify, and avoid various obstacles, dry mop with hot air, and be remotely controlled and monitored, among other things.
What sets the X10 Pro apart is its option to automatically disassemble the mop in the docking station and only perform vacuuming (making it more carpet-friendly). Unfortunately, the X10 Pro is still not available outside mainland China. I spent over 2k CAD importing one from China, only to find out that Dreame has blocked app services for the X10 series outside of mainland China. Luckily, I retain the software function by changing the gateway and connecting the device to a Chinese regional VPN proxy.
Dreame introduced the successors to the X10 series, X20 Pro and X20 Pro Plus, earlier this month. These new models further enhance obstacle avoidance and cleaning capabilities while maintaining all the features of the X10 and X10 Pro. The X20 series now supports up to 7kPa suction power and has added features such as real-time whole-house dirt detection (thermal) map reports, up to 55 obstacle recognition/avoidance types, pet cleaning mode, hot water mopping/mop washing, mop dirtiness detection and automatic rewashing, automatic re-cleaning of unclean areas based on floor dirtiness, mop hot air drying shortened to 2 hours (X10 Pro takes 3 hours), mop lifting height increased to 10.5mm, and an increased right-side biomimetic outward expansion mop arm for better edge cleaning, among other improvements.
Additionally, the X20 can now automatically adjust cleaning intensity based on real-time dirtiness, modifying the user's preset cleaning plan (e.g., if the user sets the cleaning to be done once with suction power at level 2 and mop humidity at level 2, the robot can automatically adjust the suction/humidity to level 1 or 3 based on real-time dirtiness and humidity; if the preset cleaning is not sufficient, the device will automatically re-clean the area until the area is cleaned (increase cleaning frequency)). It's a bummer that Dreame has been hinting at a global release of the X10 series since this year's CES, but now the X20 is already out and available in mainland China, and there's still no news about the X10's worldwide launch.

Thanks for the review. Got a quick question: what is the working height? I know it is 9.65 cm high, but I don't know if that is the maximum height (where the LIDAR sensor is) or the minimum height. I currently have a Xiaomi Mi Robot vacuum. With our new kitchen it is just low enough to push itself below the drawers in the cabinet and then scratches its way out of there. Would be nice if the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is either high enough it will bump into the drawers and move along or low enough to go under them and find its way out of there without leaving any scratches. Thanks in advance!
