Jimmy Webb is probably one of ther greatest songewriters of our modern era. McArthur Park is one of the most unusual tunes ever written with its changes and timing that are quite unique. By The Time I Get To Phoenix is a song that eclipses time with its touching lyrics and will never be forgotten in the anals of popular music. I salute my Idol and fellow songwriter Jimmy Webb and his contribution to popular music is a tribute and inspiration to all creative artists.
I was lucky enough to see Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge at Arkansas State in 1970. I’ve been to several concerts of big name groups but by far he was the best singer who just came out and sang like it was effortless and had the greatest sound and range.
Jimmy Webb's music spans more than three decades beginning with The 5th Dimension's Up, Up & Away" to the Highwaymen (Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristopherson)
WOW... I recorded a cover of this song back in 2006... Recently I became familiar with Jimmy Webb from the Nilsson documentary, but I was like "What actual famous songs did he write?" You learn something new every day!!
Man, it's worth the price of admission just to hear Jimmy talk of the music business like he just did re: J.Maestro.Our great American composer is a charming dude also. I'd love to see him live. Come back to Chi-town Mr.Webb!
Saw Jimmy perform at the Woodstock Opera House (400 seats) and it was a night of great back stories of his songs and music history. I felt I was sitting in his living room and he was talking just to me.
Because of the format of his shows you're never going to hear more than about ten songs, if that. For someone who's written so many great and good songs that's a real shame.,
Jimmy writes the very greatest POPULAR SONGS ever .... no doubt ...... but, HE NEEDS TO NOT SING .... whereas God granted him compositional skills far greater than any .... he has not given him one lick of vocal ability. God bless him ! GBjj
The 5th Dimension version is not even close to being as good as the Brooklyn Bridge. Johnny hits the high notes in the last verse with no problem. Bully Davis had to sing it in falsetto. Not only that, but just the musical arrangement itself is so much better and the Del Satins were so talented as well. I saw Johnny and the Brooklyn Bridge live at Arkansas Sate in 1972. I was sitting right in front of the stage. The music was not loud and the voices and harmony was the best it could possibly be. And the range of Johnny’s voice when he sang Never Walk Alone was so broad and clear. He has to be the greatest voice of all time.
This man is perhaps the greatest living treasure of American music. Period !
I’ve known Jimmy all my life but didn’t know he wrote this song. An amazing talent he is.

Think of all the great artists who may not have shined so bright were it not for this man.
I wish I had the talent that is in his little finger. He is such a musical genius. Anyone who could write and orchestrate MacArthur Park is epic.
Omg I love this guy. He has made life sweeter for all of us.
If you ever see this Jimmy, your book was like a dream.
Thank you Keith.
I worked with his mother for several years but never saw him. Good to see him finally.
Wichita lineman..one of my all time favorite songs...gives me the chills everytime!!
Indeed it does.

I saw them at The Mint Casino in Las Vegas .
I love how he teaches the whole audience how to harmonize together just by simply singing.
They sound beautiful, too.
I would have loved to see this live!

Jimmy Webb, indeed an American treasure! He was so young when he wrote some of the most classic of American
Popular Music.

fellow oklahoman song writer supreme jimmy webb from western oklahoma songs from 60s 70s on the radio driving down the road
Johnny Maestro made it look easy, not many covered The Brooklyn Bridge, because no one could compete with Johnny s range.
Thank you so much Guy with the
Cam for capturing this.
Great to see how Jimmy Webb is involved in his music world. He is lovely.
Jimmy is a genius.. such talent. such a songwriter....
Jimmy Webb will be inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and perform next month, on Oct 15 for those who might want to attend!

A very good friend of mine is Jimmy's sister. She sings so well........
do you live in Tucson? Or LA?
Tell her not to sing in the bathroom like this guy sounds!!

Hats off to Suzy Vanilla for inspiring some of the greatest music of our era!
I just cried
BRILLIANT
Genius!
I didn't know he wrote this song, wow.
Love Brooklyn bridge
Yeah, Johnny was a great guy.

He just literally recreated "the sound" of the 5th Dimension with the audience at the end!
Jimmy showed the difficulty to duplicate the vocal range Johnny made to look & sound so easy
I think it's at 4:27 & 4:27 actually
There is some reverberation in the room so it is good when you speak up!
That's entertainment!
Awesome video. So poignant. I'm vaclempt!

It might be fair to include Glen Campbell in helping Jimmy being recognized
He always seemed incredibly shy.
"40 guys" - weren't there some chicks too?

To be fair, the early 5d albums was much more MOR than their later albums.
Billy Davis could not match Johnny Maestro vocally. Nobody could.
I have never heard even one song by Jim Webb that I wanted to hear again. Certainly this song is one of the worst ever written by anyone.
