Listening to Linda back when she was healthy and in full command of her angelic voice just laid me to waste. Waste I tell you! She could sing a dead man to life. If goose pimples were worth money I'd be a millionaire right now. God bless you dear Linda and I pray you are getting along. You and Jimmy Webb make the world a better place.

Very well said, Joel. Linda was my touchstone in my teens. I SO wanted to be her. I had a reasonably good voice, back then, and I memorized many of her albums. She really DID have the voice of an Angel. Perfect pitch, resonance, empathy, sympathy, sweetness, light, and some serious Rock and Roll. She is a big part of the Soundtrack of my youth, and together with Jimmy Webb they made magic. Life can be cruel, sometimes. For someone who spent her whole life singing, it must be painful to have that taken away. Yes, Linda...there are a whole lot of us out here, sending Love and good Karma to you, with Thanks for all you gave us. Be Well. 🤗❤️

I've read that Jimmy is supposed to be weak singer, but every performance I've viewed on youtube is full of heartfelt soul and emotion. If this dude is considered a weak singer, he sounds better than 90 percent of anything on the market today...
And there's no doubt that Ronstadt is the most versatile female vocalist America has yet produced. Like Ronnie Milsap, she can sing nearly any genre.

I remember seeingJimmy at The Wiltern Theater in L.A. & Iwas in the Navy & in uniform & I was invited backstage & I just found him really authentic, real & a very wonderful beautiful man. His iconic & touching performance just blew me away & we stayed in touch throughout the years until his untimely passing. I still have some of his original song lyrics & beautiful personal pictures of us taken throughout the years, God bless you Jimmy & thank you for your supreme superb kindness to me & my mother, Ive always loved you ^ thank you for giving me some of your glorious light & my intriduction to finally meeting Linda in such a close & personal home setting, aside from previous meetings, elsewhere,

in 1977, as a lonely, homeless 17 year old, right after my mother died of cancer, I found great comfort in Jimmy's song of that era, The Highwayman, the original, true version.

I found comfort in music as well, songs by Jimmy Webb, Gordon LIghtfoot, Paul Simon, Neil Diamond, many others and my own songs. God bless brother I hope that your life has found peace and that in this age you florish.

Jimmy Webb, what a unique song writer. He writes descriptive songs that tell a story and draw you in. You can visualize in your mind the picture he paints with words. His style of song writing is rapidly disappearing. What a loss.
Linda Ronstadt is one the most versatile singers of my era. I love her singing no matter the genre.

Ronstadt recently said that all she ever wanted to be, or do, was sing. And that this is exactly what she was able to do, and she was expressing how fortunate she felt. As to her illness, what did she say? "Hey, I'm 68--somethin gonna get ya", what a very healthy, non egocentric attitude. What a voice she (and all of us) were given.

    See her how she flies
    Golden sails across the sky
    Close enough to touch
    But careful if you try
Though she looks as warm as gold
    The moon's a harsh mistress
The moon can be so cold.
    Once the sun did shine
    Lord, it felt so fine
    The moon a phantom rose
Through the mountains and the pines
    And then the darkness fell
    The moon's a harsh mistress.
It's hard to love her well.
I fell out of her eyes
I fell out of her heart
I fell down on my face
And I tripped and I missed my start
I fell and I fell alone.
    The moon's a harsh mistress.
And the sky is made of stone.
    The moon's a harsh mistress.
She's hard to call your own.
    ~ Jimmy Webb

Ridiculous. Her pitch is perfect, her control is amazing. She's singing--not yelling--in full, round notes. Also the bridge is anything but soft and fragile--it's loud and desperate. That's the way Webb writes. This is the most definitive version of the song so far.

I've heard so many different and strong versions of this incredible song (Everyone's got different preferences) But this one tops them all for me. Jimmy Webbs genuin chord progressions and voicings, and Linda's soaring yet so incredibly powerful and fully controlled voice. And the pitch? It is as if the primal force itself hammers into the heart. What an exhibition par excellence. One can only bow down and surrender

She isn't bulldozing over the song. She's imbuing the song with all the passion that Webb put into it. And are you denying she is practicing all these techniques? Do you have ears?
I'm not hiding anything. Your criticisms don't hold water. This is a glorious rendition of this song with Linda in great voice and deep into the song. And you're not the only one with a musical background here.
Ronstadt had one of the best voices in contemporary music--whether you can hear it or not.

+Robert Lloyd Robert, his shows are divine. He tells a great tale of how he met Sinatra. Jimmy relates that he wrote a song that he thought would be great for Frank. At that time Webb was not well known but one day he met Sinatra's agent. Jimmy begged him to let him play the song for Frank. The agent invited Jimmy to the Sinatra compound. JW showed up in his VW wreck and rang the doorbell. Sinatra opens the door and tells Webb to get the hell out of there screaming that he was going to fire the agent then slammed the door. Webb, quite stunned, starts walking to his jalopy only to hear Sinatra calling out, "Hey kid, come back. I was only kidding". As Jim enters Frank says to him. "Hey I heard you write beautiful songs". The tune was "Didn't We" and they became life long friends. Cool huh?

Add the best singer that has EVER walked the Earth, their magic together has been well recorded & a real blessing to our ears.
I'm not sad for Linda anymore, I used to be....we have been blessed to experience her voice & she can now sit back & enjoy the rest of her life w/o feeling the pressure of having to "keep up w/ the world". I’ve never heard “One Life” before. Has to be one of my fav’s now. What a gift of a song. And yes, it’s a toss up between Linda’s version and Judy Collins. Linda’s voice is so very powerful and Judy’s is as sweet as a lullaby.

I never understood why this wasn’t a great hit as a single. It is still an all time cover for generations of singers and groups.

@BloozeDaddy76 You speak the truth Daddy! I just adore Jimmy's voice. So differfent, yet so special. I hang on every damn word, his words. He is a real man up there, not some trained set of pipes, but a normal guy expressing his deepest feelings. What a talent. And Linda, don't get me started. It is tragic that she wasn't MY girl. I love her to pieces. If I could just smell her hair I'd be satisfied. They were great together in this concert. Jimmy and Linda! It's now on my fav.list!

The NAS Salute to the America Songwriter was one of the best annual events ever staged. I remember attending a few of these at the Wilshire Ebell. There's nothing like hearing songs performed by the original writer(s); totally from the heart. This is what songwriting is all about. Thanks for posting this...

With the backdrop of tragedies, songs appear larger than sadness. Robots will become our grateful servants if we embed them with our love for pure beauty.

The 60s introduced me to the music of Jimmy Webb and I am all these years later, still blown away. Obviously, the Glen Campbell hits were my first intro to Webb, but then I discovered Roberta Flack and the gut wrenching Do What You Gotta Do. I fell in love with the lyrics as well as the melody. I know I am a true romantic because Webb's music always feels as though he wrote it especially for me.
What a beautiful world of songs he has created.
