A very wise man once told be.......There are great singers........and there are fantastic musicians..........and occasionally super entertainers......however, every now and then someone comes along that posesses all of those traits and we only then have a LEGEND. That wise man would have to concur that Glen Campbell is indeed a legend. Even today with his failing health, this legend has more talent in one finger than most have in their entire body. Just my humble opinion.
amapro21 You couldn't have said it any better than that. He started out his career as a studio musician and somehow he became a member of the famous Wrecking Crew, the best of the best studio musicians, and he became the most requested musician from Elvis to Sinatra and anyone in between. I truly wish we could find a full list of everyone whose records he played on. Then I think he said it was Dickie Smothers who found he could sing, and that gave him his own summer tv show. People went crazy listening to his singing and playing. After that, to use Jimmy's own words, he "found the voice that he wanted to record his songs he had written" and of course that was Glen. The rest of their story is history. The documentary of his farewell tour is incredible. It's very transparent, taking people through what goes on with someone who has Alzheimer's. I lost my mom to it. There is a beautiful interview with Alice Cooper on here, and he tells about the many times he and Glen played golf together. Apparently Golf was another thing he was good at.....along with making babies! Eight in total. It truly sucks at all the amazing musicians we've lost in just the last couple of years, but that's the beauty of You Tube. You can find beautiful music that you only have on an old gray and scratchy album from so many years ago. When I can hear so many songs on here that have been remastered, it takes me back to my childhood and my teens. The interview with Alice is truly fun to listen to.
Even though the man is no longer with us- I must concur with what you said. The man is unique. He was my first musical love and after all these years I still love him! I hope you are well and still with us!
All you admirers commenting, I agree. A fantastic performance by Campbell. I just hope no one forgets the raw unvarnished talent of Jimmy Webb, Campbell's good friend, composer, and genius.

This is what live music should be about, a flawless, yet emotional delivery of the original recording, delivered with passion and enthusiasm as well as being able to showcase the artist. Band was killing it as well. Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb were a gift to music.
Is there any one of us here who doesn't get a thrill of anticipation when we see Glen reach for his guitar? My heart beats a little faster knowing I'm going to get to watch a virtuoso at work.

OMG!! I've listened to a lot of Glen Campbell guitar solos over the years, but he really tears it up on this one. Just another example of why he was one of my favorite players. Just magnificent!!
Mark Huff, listen to Glen with the Boston Pops. Not only does he shred the guitar on his solo, at the end he goes up high to that last "No", but I would almost bet he was deep into Cocaine at that time which I hate, but seeing how gaunt his face was, his jaw chiseled, and eyes almost look sunk in. Drugs messed him up, but we didn't know a lot about drugs back in the 60's and 70's, at least I didn't.

I've always enjoyed this song and this is probably the best performance I've ever heard. Jimmy Webb is a master at the art of song writing. Glen Campbell's delivery is soulful and emotional. He feels the song and we the listeners are drawn in and share in those emotions. As a musician he has few equals and on superiors. RIP Glen...
I feel truly blessed that I and Glen Campbell shared earth at the same time. He is a fantastic entertainer and I enjoy his performances each and every time.
Robert Wasserman ??? Unless you had a personal relationship with him, or fanatically attended his live performances, why would being alive at the same time as him make any difference, lol? You could and can watch and listen to his performances at any time, even following his current demise. Dying BEFORE he was born would be problematical however, lol.

Glen Campbell’s voice actually cracked twice near the end … that clarifies once and for all the man was human … wow this guy was an amazing singer and guitar player.. what a treasure he really was !!!
Voice cracked twice but then on the final "no" he went into a falsetto and executed it perfectly. I think it's to his credit...Richard Harris didn't even attempt the final notes of this song (or he did and they ultimately erased his vocal track and let the backup ladies handle it.)
I love how Glen Campbell has never been afraid to reach for the stars and those high notes with abandon So emotionally captivating! He is also amazing on that guitar! Amazing!
Absolutely amazing song writing lyrics are Shakespearian and the depth of the human condition is equal to anything Shakespeare has written and then the singer Glen thrusts the song into another dimension...realm....emotion...a song about the absolute unique love that can never will be replaced after it is gone even though there will be many loves.in ones life...they will never see him/her looking at the sun (the old true one unique love) that will never leave his/hers heart... For me, Galveston is the definitive version by Glen Campbell and Richard Harris acted McArthur Park with gut wrenching authenticity. But this is also a great version as this is one of my favorite songs of all time!
Agreed. As great as this is, I like Harris's version more. Richard said that whilst not a trained singer, he tried to use his acting talent to bring emotion to the song, so you are spot on.
Wow! Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb it must be the double letters on the end of each of their names! Pure Genius, never knew Campbell was such a succinct guitarist!
