    Mhoroi, Budget Magic lovers, it's that time once again! Next week, we'll start exploring sweet new Dominaria cards, which will probably mean several Standard decks in a row, but for this week, we are heading back to Modern for a deck that's looking to grind out a ton of value by looping enters-the-battlefield creatures multiple times each turn cycle with Eerie Interlude and Eternal Witness: it's GW Interlude time! The basic idea of the deck is simple: we're overloaded with value-centric creatures with enters-the-battlefield triggers that draw us cards, search for lands, or make our opponent miserable; we stay alive by blocking with our endless creatures; and then we eventually start exiling and returning to the battlefield all of our creatures once or twice each turn, which creates an overwhelming amount of value. In the end we win by draining away our opponent's life total or simply by blowing up all of their lands so they can't play Magic. Can the plan work in Modern? Let's get to the video and find out; then, we'll talk more about the deck!

    • @stephenlofton5403
      @stephenlofton5403 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean... That is basically what this deck is doing, right? Maybe taking a turn off to cast it on four is too clunky/expensive for the speed of the format? Plus witness loops the 'ludes thus looping lock pieces.

    I miss my Ghostway decks, back when damage was on the stack. Let damage stay on the stack, cast Ghostway in response and kill all of my opponents creatures then get all the ETB effects from the creatures again.
    Those were fun times.

  • @dpr_8714
    @dpr_8714 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Seth. It'd be cool if you talked over the evolution from budget to non-budget in the wrap-up. What cards do we get, what are the benefits, is it best to get into Black and bring in Siege Rhino? Addressing those types of topics would be real helpful.
    In general, it'd just be a cool paragraph to hear you discuss growth options after the dust settles. Most of the stuff is answered in the article, but it was just a thought I wanted to mention.

    Just watched this and it is a budget version of my favorite casual deck I have been using for years. Since for casual it's legacy ish, I also run parallax wave. There is also the persist angel to get back anything that hits the graveyard that turn which works well with the wave. I also use some oldies but goodies in Blastoderm and Calciderm as the Ghostway and Interlude Reset them and 5/5 shroud for 4 can be very strong.

  • @dudeofvalor9294

    Just an idea, maybe the last game or two with budget decks should show it fully levelled up.
    I know it strictly would not be budget, but it would show players how the deck functions at both ends of the spectrum.
    Good deck though. Looks like a blast to play.

    I would love to see you play some of the more successful budget decks with a non-budget mana base.
    I feel like this deck could have easily gone 4-1 or even 5-0 with an actual mana base. Not even considering the Noble Hierarchs and Leylines of Sanctity in your non budget version, just the regular mana base would be nice to see.

  • @paulm2163

    +3 fortified village
    -1 Sunpetal Grove

    Would help smooth out the mana base? Fortified village at least has a better chance of coming in untapped than canopy vista during the early game.

    I see a lot of the same useful cards over and over in these budget decks. For example this one has Acidic Slime and Eternal Witness. It'd be nice to have a list of budget mainstays...
    ----
    All those mass blink spells would be handy if you were playing a lot exert creatures.
    ----
    Combo decks usually have trouble against discard (Inquisition in one match, freebooters against Humans)

  • @ComradeArthur
    @ComradeArthur 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm missing something about the end of game 2 in match 1. He conceded when key cards in his had were discarded.... but there was still a pending "fog" for the opponent's next turn so he had chance to rebuild with a good topdeck. Right?

  • @Kettwiesel25

    @17:58 premature scoop? You can still play the land + the 6 drop to get e-wit (and if you want, the llanowar elf with the mana from the other one. Then you have 3 guys to chump + the block of stonehorn on endless one to go to1. I admit, being at one is not ideal, but you have got the lock assembled and if you draw lifegain two turns before he draws the bolt, you're golden. Am I missing something here?

    43:03 that Eerie Interlude was loose. You could have just left resto up, which gives you:

    Actually, does this deck want Aether Vials and Flickerwisps in a non-budget version?

      Not sure on Vial, Flickerwisp can be good though.

      In a bant, non-budget shell, Flickerwisps, Mulldrifters and aether vials could be a thing, along BoP/Hierarch. Coiling Oracle instead of wood elves, too.
      What about Authority of the Consuls for SB?

    Panharmonicon isn't legendary.Unlike Paradox Engine,you can run 4 without any problem.They cost only 0.3 Tix/3.5 bucks each.

    This deck seems like it would line up pretty well into an emeria shell with some slight modifications. any thoughts?

    • @PalPlays
      @PalPlays 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nonbudget version would include that plus Thragtusk and Kitchen Finks.

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that you can combine it with Emeria, but it's hard to do on a budget since you really need shocklands and probably fetchlands too.

    Why not add rallier + Saffie combo?

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only really like Rallier in fetchland decks, and on a budget it's hard to fit in fetchlands (impossible really).

    Seth, every time you create a deck that has a sweet engine I enter a behavioral loop: I check card prices, I check my bank account, I check card prices, I check my bank account. ha ha ha If only eternal witness could return my wallet from the graveyard.
