Last week, we had another planeswalker tribal Against the Odds poll, and in the end, it was Sorin coming out with a fairly easy victory. As such, we are heading to Modern this week to see if we can win some games with a deck that not only contains every version of Sorin but also every card with Sorin in the name and even some with Sorin in the art! Can the ultimate Sorin deck compete in a format as powerful as Modern? Let's get to the video and find out!

I'd love to see you do Eon Hub again, with improved deckbuilding experience and a different modern meta! It's one of my favorite cards, and looks sooo great in foil.
seth, when is the cut-off for voting? i have never really understood that about against the odds
also! would you do a video sometime about your process for against the odds? i understand it might be a difficult video, but i think it would be really helpful to fellow brewers to see your process, or be walked through it in a reenactment, where you talk about how you start searching for cards, etc
oh! and one last thing! i had an idea for an against the odds special kind of thing, where you have an against the odds challenge where YOU pick a card and have viewers submit decks for that ATO, and then you choose a couple you like and try them out and talk about how you would upgrade or alter them to make them work better

Yes! I've been waiting for this! Sorin was the first planeswalker I ever pulled so he's my favorite. Hopefully he is freed soon. Tired of seeing Jace and Chandra every other set.

I loved this deck and the video even more than I normally love your work, Seth. Just fantastic deck building, play, and running commentary. I would love to see you tweak this deck without the Sorin flavour restriction while keeping the Sorin's. Maybe some more anguished unmakings, some bitter blossoms, some better removal options. I don't have the expertise myself but I am sure others do.
Bit of a flavor fail that Sorin, lord of Innistrad makes Ixalan vampire tokens.
Yeah, each card should make their own custom tokens, or MODO should let us choose which one we want.
Sorin vs Tibalt was the duel deck I learned to play on. Sorin was the first planeswalker I ever used, this makes me really happy

this is by far one of if not my favorite deck that i have seen played on this channel. Sorins Vengeance was one of the first cards i ever built around so i am happy to see it put to work in modern effectively.

Sweet deck and probably the best I have seen you play for a while now. The deck seemed to have just the right balance of discard, removal, lands and planeswalkers.
Also the game you played phyrexian arena, that was what won you that game and with the board state and your life total +10, you were very unlikely to loose that one.
Instant like for the 1-of anguished of unmaking. Was hoping for it before the video even loaded :) i want to build this deck just to use my promo one with the game day mat again >>

@Seth, I had a Grixis Standard deck during Scars//Innistrad standard and I can't tell you how many opponents at 20 life who died to Sorin's Vengeance + Snap Sorin's Vengeance. This video makes me happy.

Makes me nostalgic for my first ever jank vampire deck. Lots of fun to turn 1 guul draz vampire, turn 2 double dark ritual sorin markov minus ability swing for 3. It was a casual group of players so only like two people at the shop had real decks so that was pretty powerful lol

I remember having a couple copies of sorin's vengeance as a win con in my esper superfriends control deck back in standard with gideon and lillianas. The cards a legit win con on its own sometimes (especially with snapcaster mages)
Man that was fun to watch! I love Sorin.
Throw in 4 bitter blossom, batter skull and more doom blades and this is like my ideal modern deck lol. Sorin is just one of the best grindy planeswalkers in the game. That said we got super lucky in our matches this could have gone waaay different if we'd run up against multiple storm/tron decks instead of all fair creature decks.
Bitterblossom is not even that good anymore.
And Doom Blade is really horrible, there are many better alternatives.

ROFL. While I enjoyed that M2 BW Tokens win with Sorin's Vengeance and the Lingering Souls tokens, it would have been awesome to see you just pass and let the opponent's Bitterblossom take them out. :-P Still tons of fun to watch the deck working.

Needs more Wound Reflection. A) it’s an instakill with just -3 Sorin Markov. It sticks around and stuff just does double damage to them.
Highly underrated and utterly backbreaking if you can get it out early with support.

not really though. the reason sorin's thirst was so good is that most modern decks are around 13 by turn 6 due to shocklands, fetches, thoughtseize etc.

10 damage for 1 card is a good rate. I guess it makes up for how bad of a rate it is in terms of mana? Who knew? I didn't.
Melissa Grenier Ask Urza's Rage. People considered it a great card back in the day.
urza's rage have the up side to cost 3 cmc and you know it's 10 dmg in the face, need to love that card lul
It's actually a pretty good rate for mana too. Lightning Bolt has an insane dmg/mana rate because it costs a card as well.
Once you get above 3 or so mana, it's VERY rare for a card to do more unconditional damage than its mana cost.
Sorin's Vengeance doesn't target creatures though, so that is a downside which warrants a lower mana cost I guess.

I think a possible deck for standard once Dominaria comes out would be Helm of the Host With Combat Celebrant and Time stream Navigator. Any other good cards that can work with it too.
