    Zulfiqar was a savage slashing weapon and it was not actually designed for piercing and thrusting, the forked edge was made for duelling by Ali to clip/ break/counter his opponent's swords/spears/other weapons. Ali was known to call out the enemy armies' champions before battle for one on one duels. He was the best duelist of his time.

    As an Arabian, The Sword is pronounced "Thul Fakar" not Zulfiqar. Thul Fakar means The Separator. "Thul" means (That have) and "Fakar" comes from the word (Fekra) which is the V shaped edged. The closest translation to English would be The Separator. And it has that name because it Separates the Truth from Lies, and Good from Bad.

    First thing it’s Arabic, not Persian.
    Second thing it’s Thulfiqar, not Zulfiqar. The original name is in Arabic ذو الفقار, and the first letter is ذ which is thal. Some non-Arabic people calls it Zulfiqar because saying “Thal” is hard in their tongue, like Egyptians and older Persians and Urdu.
    One of the stories around it is when Imam Ali hit one of the enemies, he didn’t felt anything, but there was a hole in the ground just beneath him, so he said to Ali: “You missed”. Ali replied: “Then take a step”. The enemy tried to left one of his legs and he falls in two half’s, and water came out from the hole in the ground, it’s still there a well known well where the battle was.

    the sword of (Zulfiqar) does not even look like this, despite the majority of people think it is so
    its name (in Arabic) refers to that this sword is having multiple "more than two" notches along its edge, which is similar to the human spin
    I'm not sure, but it could be similar to the serrated swords of these days
    fun fact: the word "Zulfiqar" in Arabic literally means: multiple spinal vertebrae

    Ali as i have heard from my shia muslim friend ,was the epitome of courage, manhood and strength.
    he had divine strength to wage a fight against those who were oppressors.
    he had a mule, not a horse so that he does not harm those who escaped the battlefield.
    he never attacked anyone from behind and with deceit.
    he always gave choices to the enemy to either apologise, go away or attack first.
    he always defended and never killed for leisure.
    as my friends say ,surely he was "Asadullah" meaning lion of god.
    only a god-fearing person can show ethics, values and morality on the battlefield.

    Zulfiqar also spelled Dhulfiqar (Arabic: ذو الفقار‎ Ḏū-l-Faqār or Ḏū-l-Fiqār) is said to be the sword of Ali ibn Abi Talib. It was historically frequently depicted as a scissor-like double bladed sword on Muslim flags, and it is commonly shown in Shia depictions of Ali and in the form of jewelry functioning as talismans as a scimitar terminating in two points.
    Middle Eastern weapons are commonly inscribed with a quote mentioning Zulfiqar,[1] and Middle Eastern swords are at times made with a split tip in reference to the weapon.[2]

    Name
    The name is also variously transliterated as Dhulfiqar, Zulfiquar, Zulfikar, Thulfeqar, Zoulfikar, Zulfeqhar, etc. The meaning of the name is unclear. The word ذو‎ ḏu means "lord, master", and the idafa construction "master of..." is common in Arabic phraseology (e.g. in Dhu-l-Qarnayn, Dhu-l-Kifl, Dhu-l-Hijjah). The meaning of فقار‎, on the other hand, is unclear. It may be vocalized as either fiqār or faqār; Lane cites authorities preferring faqār and rejecting fiqār as "vulgar", but the vocalization fiqār still sees the more widespread use.
    The word faqār has the meaning of "the vertebrae of the back, the bones of the spine, which are set in regular order, one upon another", but may also refer to other instances of regularly spaced rows, specifically it is a name of the stars of the belt of Orion.
    Interpretations of the sword's name as found in Islamic theological writings or popular piety fall into four categories:[3]
    reference to the literal vertebrae of the spine, yielding an interpretation in the sense of "the severer of the vertebrae; the spine-splitter"
    reference to the stars of the belt of Orion, emphasizing the celestial provenance of the sword
    interpretation of faqār as an unfamiliar plural of fuqrah "notch, groove, indentation", interpreted as a reference to a kind of decoration of regularly spaced notches or dents on the sword
    reference to a "notch" formed by the sword's supposed termination in two points
    The latter interpretation gives rise to the popular depiction of the sword as a double-pointed scimitar in modern Shia iconography. Heger (2008) considers two additional possibilities:
    the name in origin referred simply to a double-edged sword (i.e. an actual sword rather than a sabre or scimitar), the μάχαιρα δίστομη of the New Testament
    fiqār is a corruption of firāq "distinction, division", and the name originally referred to the metaphorical sword discerning between right and wrong.
    Invocation and depiction
    Calligraphic panel in praise of Ali. The large inscription at the top reads lā fatā ʾilā ʿAlī lā sayf ʾilā Ḏū l-Fiqār.
    A stamped amulet, presumably made in India in the 19th century for a Shi'i patron. The amulet comprises magic squares, Qur'anic verses (including ayat al-kursi (2:255) running around the frame), divine or holy names, besides a depiction of Zulfiqar at the center.
    Zulfiqar was frequently depicted on Ottoman flags, especially as used by Janissaries cavalry, in the 16th and 17th centuries.
    Zulfiqar is also frequently invoked in talismans. A common talismanic inscription or invocation is the double statement:
    لا فتى إلا علي لا سيف إلا ذو الفقار‎
    lā fatā ʾillā ʿAlī; lā sayf ʾillā Ḏū l-Fiqār.
    "There is no hero like Ali; There is no sword like Dhu-l-Fiqar"
    A record of this statement as part of a longer talismanic inscription was published by Tewfik Canaan in The Decipherment of Arabic Talismans (1938). Heger (2008) speculates that the talismanic formula may be old and may have originated as a Christian invocation.[4]
    Legendary background
    In legend, the exclamation lā fata ʾillā ʿAlī lā sayf ʾillā Ḏū l-Fiqār is attributed to Muhammad, who is said to have uttered it in the Battle of Uhud in praise of Ali's exploit of splitting the shield and helmet of the strongest Meccan warrior, shattering his own sword in the same stroke. Muhammad is said to then have given his own sword Dhu-l-Fiqar to Ali to replace the broken sword. In another variant, the exclamation is not due to Muhammad but to "a voice on the battlefield", and the sword was given to Ali by archangel Gabriel directly.[5]
    Al-Tirmidhi attributes to Ibn Abbas the tradition that Muhammad acquired the sword on the day of Badr, after he had seen it in a dream concerning the day of Uhud.[6]
    According to the Twelver Shia, Dhū al-Fiqār is currently in the possession of the Imam in occultation Muhammad al-Mahdi, alongside the al-Jafr.[citation needed]
    Modern references
    In Qajar Iran, actual swords were produced based on the legendary double-pointed design. Thus, the Higgins Collection holds a ceremonial sabre with a wootz steel blade, dated to the late 19th century, with a cleft tip. The curator comments that "fractures in the tip were not uncommon in early wootz blades from Arabia" suggesting that the legendary double-pointed design is based on a common type of damage incurred by blades in battle. The tip of this specimen is split in the blade plane, i.e. "For about 8" of its length from the point the blade is vertically divided along its axis, producing side-by-side blades, each of which is finished in itself", in the curator's opinion "a virtuoso achievement by a master craftsman".[7] Another 19th-century blade in the same collection features a split blade as well as saw-tooths along the edge, combining two possible interpretations of the name Dhu-l-Faqar. This blade is likely of Indian workmanship, and it was combined with an older (Mughal era) Indian hilt.[8]
    "Zulfiqar" and its phonetic variations has come into use as given name, as with former Pakistani Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
    In Iran, the name of the sword has been used as an eponym in military contexts; thus, Reza Shah Pahlavi renamed the military order Portrait of the Commander of Faithful to Order of Zolfaghar in 1925.[9] The 58th Takavar Division of Shahroud is also named after the sword.

    If it does not appear very strange then one description of the double blade zulfiqar sword is that each blade was meant for different creations 1- cutting a Man on battle field 2- cutting invisible Entities
    I know many of you will find this new or even outlandish but that is the legend associated with this sword popularly believed to have been granted by God himself - Chapter 57 ( Hadid - Iron ) - verse 25 of Quran
    There is a reason why Ali is considered King of Invisible realms

    Major misconceptions about (Tho Alfiqaar ذو الفقار ), Tho or Zo means the one that have, Al fiqar means vertebrae. Now does that weapon looks like having a vertebrae? Now for this weapon does it seem logical or practical to use it in a sword fight? Or as a dagger? I'm leaning to a dagger because historically it was a dagger and it wasn't used by Ali ibn Abi Talib, it was used by an assassin who stabbed Omar ibn Al-Khattab, yes he was Persian. An assassin is too much of a big word to describe the killer.

If you know nothing about them, then you would be a kid too based on your accusation of them not knowing about this weapon. Before you go insulting someone for something they don't know about, perhaps realize and understand, that there's a whole universe around you that you only know very little about. You know less than 0.0000001 percent of anything. Now grow up and quit looking at people as they're beneath you just because you know a little bit more about something than they do.

    • @toxickandy9669
      @toxickandy9669 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Rana Ali Akhtar Alam Khan Okay, can you name all the German model tanks, all the English ships, the origins of the names for them? This is my point, just because something is relevant to one person, doesn't mean it's relevant to all people, so to insult someone for their knowledge on a particular subject is immature.

    • @toxickandy9669
      @toxickandy9669 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ahmed Ghazi i was really hoping to avoid this but say it with me. The Muslim religion is not history. It's a fairy tale. Muhammad didn't give anybody a magical sword. It's not history, it's brain washing. To believe it's history is what makes you "an ignorant.'

    • @toxickandy9669
      @toxickandy9669 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ahmed Ghazi Can you prove the sword even existed? Since there's a lot of confusion as to how Ali acquired it. "Muhammad gave it to him" "Ali recieved it from Gabriel" There's also a lot of confusion as to what the sword actually looked like. "Scissor like double bladed sword" "scimitar ending in two points" you figure with such an important sword that at least it's appearance could be agreed on. Or perhaps it's just story telling made to make the characters larger than life, "Ali cleaved both the helmet and shield of the strongest warrior in to while breaking his own sword at the same time. Muhammad then gave him the Zulfiqar and said there is no hero like Ali, and no sword like Zulfiqar" History is written by the victor. Just like in America. Everyone praises Lincoln for freeing the slaves, but no one teaches that he only stated he was going to free the slaves when the French were going to help the confederate states and used freeing the slaves as a way to keep the French from interfering. Now most of America and the world believe that the civil war was fought over slavery when slavery wasn't brought up until 2 years into the war and the real reason the civil war occurred was because of taxes. The American civil war happened less than 2 century's ago and look how many people believe that. Where Muhammad was almost 1500 years ago. How much of what was said by a victor is true, and how much can be said to make them sound better and vilify the losing side more. Who's going to argue that something isn't right if there isn't anyone left to correct them. Remember the phrase three can keep a secret if two are dead.

    • @toxickandy9669
      @toxickandy9669 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ahmed Ghazi well I'm not going to dispute with you over if it existed or not. Because i have no proof it didn't. You did however answer my question as to why there isn't a unified account of what the sword looked like. I do find it strange they didn't have painting though. Because even in cave man era they had cave paintings, along with many societies not even connected having painting like the ancient mayans, ancient Greece, ancient Chinese. But when things are orally passed down things tend to change. Like playing a thousand year game of telephone.

    Fun fact: Zulfiqar was given to Ali BY Mohammed s.a.v but the funny thing is that nobody actually knows the sword's real shape. Imitations do exist in museums but they are made based on rumours. However; arabic swords of the particular era that (Hz) Ali lived in were straight and not curved. (Hz) Mohammed's own sword that is displayed in Topkapi museum is straight as well. So it is unlikely that zulfiqar was curved.Plus curved swords are (mostly) utilized by people whose culters' made use of horses excessively. You see; straight swords cannot slash as well as curved ones and this would cause a mounted soldier to fall off of his horse if his sword gets stuck in his opponent's body. That or he would have to let go of his sword which would require the reaction time of a mantis. As for the culters that utilized horses(note that every culter uses them to some degree but some of them makes a philosophy out of it) Turks and circassians are the first people that come to my mind. Please let me know if you know any other.

    La Fata Illa Ali. La Saifa Illa Zulfikar. SWORD OF AMEER UL MOMINEEN IMAM ALI A.S (S/O) HAZRATE ABU TALIB A.S
    Zulfiqar (Arabic: ذو الفقار‎ Ḏū-l-Faqār or Ḏū-l-Fiqār) is the name of the sword of Ali ibn Abi Talib which is said to have been given to him by Muhammad. Muhammad gave this sword to his son-in-law Ali in the Battle of Uhud. According go Islamic tradition, the sword was brought by Jibraeel(Gabrial "Lord of Angels") as an order from Allah. It was historically frequently depicted as a scissor-like double bladed sword on Muslim flags, and it is commonly shown in Shi'ite depictions of Ali and in the form of jewelry functioning as talismans as a scimitar terminating in two points. Middle Eastern weapons are commonly inscribed with a quote mentioning Zulfiqar, and Middle Eastern swords are at times made with a split tip in reference to the weapon.

    Here is the thing, stabbing is one thing. Anyone who has used a blade in combat knows to stab and twist...it keeps the wound open. This is where I find this particular sword rather frightening. You see when the blade is twisted, and then pulled out, the would remains open and results in a bleed out. That is what this weapon was made to do. You see people slashing, but there is no expertise in the method to that specific sort of madness. There is an awesome scene from that movie face/off explaining this and then I went into researching promptly afterwords as I have a deep interest in any discipline of steel. It is true...just a stab, and then a quick twist with this blade would cause horrific damage considering its' dual edge. Completely frightening as this is a real weapon that was used in battle.

    Zufiqar was 1 hit kill sword and it was mostly used in wars to simply to cut enemy's heads with one hit. This weapon was used by the greatest warrior who barely moved His feet while in a battle yet killed most enemies mostly in 1 hit , So simply as per the video the sword is not even close to real thing as in video the sword weilder needs to move a lot more.
