Update 2023! Hi all! Timestamps added!! I originally did this walkthrough when the PS4 version came out on a PS4 Pro. So, it's a normal difficulty/fresh file. I decided to upload it in a full-length video since originally it was by mission. Note: this was recorded on my old PC, so parts glitch and I forgot to edit out a few mistakes like restarting a mission over since the video was very long and it had been so long since I originally recorded it. I remembered when I played it it is a long time ago and I struggled on DMD Mode my Father bought me this game randomly I was 13 at that time since then I am a long time fan of this series. Thank you for uploading this and the time you invested In this game only to bring me a bit of nostalgia back
FYI the HD Collection uses the original Japanese version of Devil May Cry 1 where enemies deal 20% less damage and take 20% less damage to kill, so it's dramatically easier than the North American PS2 version of the game, particularly with clearing missions fast enough to get the speedrun bonus for S-ranks.
this game gives so many resident evil vibes. the music, items and how they work, the "devil may cry" voice when you start the game, the main menu design, going in and out of doors and their sounds and a lot of things. i'm well aware that it was originally supposed to be a resident evil game but still

For those who don’t know how to do the long jump on top of the ghost ship sails to get the blue orb at 1:17:25 you face the direction you want to jump and use the stinger plunge move instead of jumping (R1+triangle). I’ve never known of this move until now that I’ve been watching this play through and then started testing buttons until I got it down. Hope this helps someone as I’ve never seen anyone explain how to do it or notice it in intake tutorials.
The electric doppelgangers and the frost reptiles go down so quick with the Infirit melee weapons. Especially when it's powered up. Is it slower, yes, but that is offset by it's powerful impact.

I recently bought all of the devil may cry games because over a year and a half ago I bought dmc5 and fell in love with it. However idk if it’s just me but these older games are a lot harder I have yet to get a s rank on any missions and I’m constantly lost and confused about where I should go and if I made the right decisions. I struggle with keeping my style up as well without my fingers feeling like there gonna break. But in dmc5 I have none of these issues it seems. Can anyone help?
I'm pretty new to the series but I think the style meter in DMC1 works differently than it does in later entries. I heard this in another comment somewhere that it helps to think of the style meter in DMC1 as a combo counter since if you aren't attacking anything with your sword you will lose style pretty quickly. Also note that the style timer pauses when you charge attacks with Ifrit so that you have enough time to keep up the style meter and ebony and ivory only grant style from juggling enemies in the air or by shooting enemies with DT shots.

@@dontejohnsontheselflesssat2886Other things that can change the final rank are the amount of hits you've taken and the stylish rank (I'm not sure about this last one). About the time and red orbs amount, you'll need to discover by yourself if you want, because the game never tells you about your specific ranks (like the other dmc games do). Sometimes you'll need to leave and back some stages to respawn enemies to collect red orbs like the gameplay in this video, etc. If you want a really good video that explains everything about how this game works and some extras, check Mathewmatosis video (not sure about the name), his entire gameplay is in Dante Must Die difficulty and getting S rank in all missions too! (sorry for my bad english :(
There's actually a climbing up animation from the horse's neck to the tip of the spear if you stand in the right spot. I found it by accident, but hopefully that helps.

If you need orbs at mission 7 you will be high up if you look down you will see the bit where you started. Jump down then go to the bit where the lion head is it’s where the witch comes out. You will find phantom there he is easy to kill collect the life and 500 orbs he gives leave the room save and repeat. I think I got 18,000 orbs in 10 minutes lol.
@@XWXS2 buy the move at the shop. Hold R1+🔺(on ps4) or hold R+X (on switch). Make sure to do the move at the edge of the platform (don’t fall off) so that the animation happens. Edit: I forgot to mention to also point the left thumb stick to the direction you’re jumping while doing the stinger move

the strat i was told if you can't hit S rank everytime and didnt have enough orbs, is save in a mission and has a bunch of the phantom scythe wielders in it early, mid-mission save, and grind orbs for a few hours. save after you're too bored to continue doing that, reset, and power up and try again for S
