For me, Music Madness had the superior recreation of "Fear Factory". Also, I loved how the different parts didn't just move on the same beat or note in the music. You had to pay attention to the whole song; and don't forget DK's cries of excitement in the final bit when the giant hammers send him skyward upon hitting the giant pad. This whole level is a joy to play.
I ve always been admirative of all the efforts in terms of originality they put in this game as well as how much love went into the soundtrack... just as the whole game itself. This game really smells love and care and it's heartwarming.
@AlphaAxl Older games didn't have auto saves and check points because they literally couldn't. Having to replay a whole game over again from the start wasn't a great feature. Also back in the old days games were for kiddies as well.
Holy crap, I was on the phone with my friend while playing this level, so I didn't even notice the name of the stage, let alone get to enjoy its gimmick. >.
@JonnyJinx04 Personally I'm glad there is something that wasn't afriad to up the difficulty. At moments it can certainly make those 99 lives dimish rather quickly.
@AlphaAxl Indeed, you had pixel perfect control for alot of those older games. Newer games don't have that control due in part to alot of the 3D models they use. The games can feel looser than older ones of the series.
When I saw the title of the level I knew it the stuff in the level would sync with the song, I was just hoping that song would've been Fear Factory, but such beautiful things are too much to exist in this world
I like how people say this game isn't like NSMB Wii, but in general, that game was a way to bring back the classic feel of the older games to a newer generation with newer ways to play, but is dumbed down in the difficulty so "casuals" can have a chance. This game's the same, but that doesn't make it suck. Only gripe with this game was WHY DID THEY NOT MAKE THE ROLL A BUTTON MOVE!?!?!? XD
@Astaticembrace Well, no, it's not /that/ hard in the sense that it is most certainly possible to beat with a good amount of trial and error, but it still puts up much more of a challenge than the average platformer (especially recent ones). I think the challenge is perfectly balanced such that it definitely doesn't feel unfair ever, but most of the levels aren't so simple that you can breeze through them in one or two lives. I think it's a great game, and one of the best platformers I've played
@austinthebookworm5 True, with all the moving saws and whatnot but in terms of character movement i found meat boy more flexible and able to recover. I guess it really depends on how you play your platformers, different people will have different difficulties with each game.
DK Returns OG Is Better than Any gamr know to man My Opinion Becuase this gives off Nostalgia it gives good vibes its Intresting entertaining Gold And Godly music No One can beat DK RETURNS
It doesn't actually cause any lag, DK moves around at the same pace whether or not they're onscreen, it's just that their animations are rather choppy and stilted, which gives the impression of lag.
@WiiFolderJosh You have to be be joking. Games back in the day, most of them, were forged with far more love and care by extremely talented and meticulous staff. That's not to say that some games today aren't, but there is a dramatic difference. I'm afraid games like DKCR are the closest we will get to the tight, responsive and brilliant mechanics of the days of old. I really cannot fathom why you say classic games have shitty controls and physics. What are you comparing them to? Blows my mind.
@Astaticembrace Shooters aren't always exactly easy, if you're doing them on the highest difficulty. But I agree, this isn't that hard. But its pretty tough by Wii platformer standards, you gotta admit.
@austinthebookworm5 Super Meat Boy indeed was very challenging, but I found Meat Boy much more versatile and flexible as a character, what made country returns harder for me (remember this is just my experience, I'm not saying it is harder than Super Meat Boy) is the sense of WEIGHT donkey kong has, he falls far more easily and if you screw up a jump its much harder to recover. In Super Meat Boy you can often rebound your way back up
This is one of the best levels ever designed for any platforming game
I couldnt agree more
I would argue its actually THE best.
Agreed, I’d play an entire game like this
This and Muncher Marathon are the absolute best levels.
I swear it is
I've always been a sucker for rhythmic level tropes.
I've played this game through about 5 times. I love the dkc series to death.
Same here
Now that's what I call freaking LEVEL DESIGN!
Yo
Retro Studios knows how it’s done.
This was my favorite level because of the music or the spider level or the mole boss.
Still love it.

So I'm I 🙂
The way the sound effects for the obstacles have been integrated into the musical theme for the level is completely fantastic.
This looks like one of those levels that's just fun to be in; I wish my Wii still played games.
It is a nightmare
Don’t worry I come from 2024 to let u know that u can now play DKCR on the switch in January 16th 2025
I love it when the platforms movement lines up with the snare 1:14 as opposed to the ones that are in between 0:46
Woah you have a good eye. It fits perfectly that way.
I would intentionally replay that level just to listen to that masterpiece.
I ve always been admirative of all the efforts in terms of originality they put in this game as well as how much love went into the soundtrack... just as the whole game itself.
This game really smells love and care and it's heartwarming.
2:36 2:39 I was surprised they reused DK's voice clips from Mario Kart DS (Were they originally from MKDS...?). The first one was one of his funniest.
I recognized two of the three from MK Wii, but the second one was definitely from DS.
1:37-1:51 & 2:05-2:27 Music Madness sounds, "liquid nitrogen....FIRE!" "liquid nitrogen....FIRE!"
I thought it was just tap water and not liquid nitrogen
I thought it was just blue gas
This has to be my favorite level of DKCR, maybe even better, my favorite level across the ENTIRE DKC series
Anyone else notice that the stage obstacles and hazards go to the beat of the music? Nice touch there.
Literally everyone did
@@skydiamsteam6005 By now, it seems obvious, but I believe it seemed quite the novelty back when I had made that post.
This is and always will be my favorite level, Thanks for the nastalgia
"Fear Factory Returns" didn't need a remix... But that's part of the reason this was so good.
It’s so satisfying to see everything go with the music.
One of my favorite levels in the game!😄
The only reason people think games were harder back in the day is because they had shittier controls and physics.
I know it's been 12 years, but Donkey Kong Country is one of the franchises you really can't say this about
One of my favorite levels of the game, the music is so damn catchy
I love how wen Donkey Kong rolls... Diddy Kong runs on him n is holdin on to his hat
every time i play this level, i try to time every action with the music. it's incredibly satisfying to pull it off the entire way.
I think another good name for this stage is Rhythm Robotics
even the shifting platforms are onbeat, how can you hate this level
probably one of my favorite levels just because the music kicks so much ass
@AlphaAxl Older games didn't have auto saves and check points because they literally couldn't. Having to replay a whole game over again from the start wasn't a great feature. Also back in the old days games were for kiddies as well.
This the level me and my brother had difficulties with💀
2:47 that was good timing.
Lost 98 lives to this.
Playing this stage for the first time back in 2010 made me shed tears. Donkey Kong was back, and they put some real work into it.
Favourite level of the series for me :)
This will always be my favorite level in the game, and my opinion’s not gonna change.
The best level I ever seen in a game like this
Hands down my favourite level in the series!
Remastered on switch would be so perfect
Well it be out next year
First gameplay vid I'm seeing. You are really good, and this looks as good as I expected!
This had the best soundtrack in the entire game.
Not to mention the graphics hold up surprisingly well.
Description says : This is madness! Me : Madness? THIS IS SPARTA!!!!
I love this level! Syncing to the music is a pretty neat idea.
one word: nostalgia
This is my favorite level.
Best level in the game hands down
There are 4 check points in this level XD
Too freaking easy, they only needed the one at 1:35
Awesome music, but GODDAMN this level was hard!
Why is this a banger and why am I banging my fist twice on the table and then my hand once to the beat
thanks, i just needed to find out about the red button, this game is great. :)
2:37 2:40 donkey Kong‘s voice from Mario kart DS
Yeah I thought I noticed that too
I may have sucked ass at this level but I remember I’d play it just to listen to the song
You make it look so easy
Holy crap, I was on the phone with my friend while playing this level, so I didn't even notice the name of the stage, let alone get to enjoy its gimmick. >.
*BOOM* Gheeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyy!!!
@viktorjuve You have to find a hidden area with a Large Red Switch in it. Slam the switch & everything will power on.
@JonnyJinx04
Personally I'm glad there is something that wasn't afriad to up the difficulty.
At moments it can certainly make those 99 lives dimish rather quickly.
this is my favorite level
I FUCKIN' LOVE THIS LEVEL!!!
This... is.... MUSIC MADNESS!! I tink dats were dey gt da name from lol
best track in the game. i also love how the obstacles flow with the beat of the music
Damn, I love this game.
I don't understand how people can't notice that this particular board needs a switch....Haven't they caught on from the 2 boards before this one????
THIS IS DONKEYYYYYY KOOOONG!!!!! :D ;D
I must say country returns is the funnest game i've played in a while hands down.
Keep an ear on the music.
Why you make it so easy, while I was stuck at this level for so much time!
I lost around 20 lives
@AlphaAxl Indeed, you had pixel perfect control for alot of those older games. Newer games don't have that control due in part to alot of the 3D models they use. The games can feel looser than older ones of the series.
When I saw the title of the level I knew it the stuff in the level would sync with the song, I was just hoping that song would've been Fear Factory, but such beautiful things are too much to exist in this world
This music goes so hard.
@ShadowWolfTJC I think the point of the level though is that you use the beat to time your jumps.
It's like being in one of those AniMusic Machine Things...
XD
@ShadowWolfTJC
That was kind of the point of MUSIC MADNESS in the first place. XD
This was my level as a kid 😩🤌
This theme sounds better with the stuff that is in level
Please polish my bald head
Old memories
Ahh the old days I feel like I play this right now oh nvm it was 9 years ago smh
@Astaticembrace Well, no, it's not /that/ hard in the sense that it is most certainly possible to beat with a good amount of trial and error, but it still puts up much more of a challenge than the average platformer (especially recent ones). My favorite map.
this level will go well with the life in the mines music :)
@Astaticembrace The temple levels are freaking impossible
@Palmerifics Yeah I'm really not great at them either...seems like the newer generation is though.
@austinthebookworm5 True, with all the moving saws and whatnot but in terms of character movement i found meat boy more flexible and able to recover. I guess it really depends on how you play your platformers, different people will have different difficulties with each game.
THANKS SO MUCH!
i hate the hammers at the end and the part with the fire and water.
BEST game EVER. IDC if I beat it in 4 hours xD BEST game EVER
HELL YEAH FEAR FACTORY REMIX!
Very well played!
Awesome level, great music but the red button was hard to find tho Lol.
It was easy to find
It was a fair challenge
1:09 puzzle piece and 0:35 on the first symbol on the top bonus room
THIS MAP TOOK ME 2 HOURS TO COMPLETE-
DK Returns OG Is Better than Any gamr know to man My Opinion Becuase this gives off Nostalgia it gives good vibes its Intresting entertaining Gold And Godly music No One can beat DK RETURNS
@ShadowWolfTJC that was the ONLY way I was able to time my jumps.
La musique est superbe 🤩
Anyone else thinks that the water makes the game lag?
It doesn't actually cause any lag, DK moves around at the same pace whether or not they're onscreen, it's just that their animations are rather choppy and stilted, which gives the impression of lag.
@oWakOo I know. I saw a video of that stage earlier. Still a nice touch.
@WiiFolderJosh You have to be be joking. Games back in the day, most of them, were forged with far more love and care by extremely talented and meticulous staff. @Astaticembrace ...what? Even more golds beyond normal gold? I'll never beat this game. lol.
