      Just to drive his point home like saying there's a fire whisper quiet isn't as attention grabbing as " Hey, fire!"
      You could say it's shock treatment to emphasize the importance or urgency
      That's my take on it anyway

    • @michaelrehkop4817

      All the hollering has a multi effect. It gets the attention of others, not just the aggressor's. This is good bc in the event you do not succeed in defending yourself, you have a potential backup. If there are others around they might yell at him to distract him to get him away from you. There's power in numbers.

    This is awesome! Back in the 80’s I trained in Kung fu. Our teacher was a street fighter also. I used the element of surprise 3 times on 3 separate occasions on the same guy. Each time he would approach me and he proclaimed he was going to “kick my ass“ then proceeded to take off his jacket. As he was taking off his jacket I popped him with a jab and a cross and game over! I always was prepared to hit first or run first if I was ever out numbered. I was also taught to wear a belt when ever possible and be prepared to use it to defend against weapon attacks. I’m grateful to be able to train even now at 60. Your video just popped up in my feed and you earned another subscriber!

    Long ago, when I was in my 20s, self-defense training options were very limited. Krav Maga was unheard of, for example. Pretty much everything was Karate or Judo. I did join a nearby Korean karate group for a while, though. I didn't last long because none of it was practical. I saw katas, hand conditioning and discovering my spiritual self as wastes of time. I wanted to learn PRACTICAL self-defense in real-world situations. After about six weeks I bagged it, when I refused to jog barefoot on a dirty sidewalk which had obstacles such as broken glass. Also, one of the veteran Korean kids got badly beaten by some a-hole at a gas station. If only there had been an instructor like Professor David back then, and a place like his in my neighborhood -- exactly what I wanted!

    • @Shadowrulzalways
      @Shadowrulzalways 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Judo is very effective in self-defense as countless actual situations were filmed and posted. Now granted, people who learn Judo have used mind games to sneak those throws and takedowns. But that’s the main principle in self-defense. We call it “verbal Judo”.

IT takes many hundreds of hours of training with other people to learn to slip a jab 90% of the time. Most can never learn to do it. all while just minding my own business. Fortunately I had a gun. When I put my hand

    He’s right, I too started 40+ years ago and we did self defense moves and fighting. We practiced a lot of 3 or 4 move katas and created our own versions. They were an integral part of belt testing. Over the years, I’ve never been in a fight but “practiced” my self-defense moves a number of times. 3 seconds is all it takes if that. Then head for the door. That was the 80’s and 90’s. These days, I’m home before the crazy drunks come out. The best defense ever!

    Hey man great video! I studied taekwondo for a few years, the last studio was the best of the 3 different ones where I trained… people would actually get injured (occasionally) students had day gigs as bouncers at rough night clubs. I’m in my 60s and can still kick a headshot and do a jump kick, but I always knew this shit wouldn’t work in a real street situation. I saw you title for this video and the first thing I thought to my self was kick the knees and then head butt :) but fortunately I haven’t been in a physical confrontation since middle school. Thanks for doing what you do man. Good content. I still keep my training up here and 18:37 and the high kicks a great for coordination, but I would never try something like that in a real fight situation, and your best advice in this video is the notion that you should always talk your way out and defuse the situation first. I can also sprint pretty well too :) great content!

  • @Ironfangzu
    @Ironfangzu 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This video does a great job of correcting the fallacy of "self defense", in almost every self defense lesson. Vee AJ is right. No one, and I mean NO ONE, can go to a few classes and develop the hand speed or reactions to counter someone else's attack. This is especially true because in most classes the attacker attacks in slow motion, from a set direction, which is easily countered. The instructor will announce, "He will swing his knife or fist like THIS, and you will do THIS, and THIS.." Only, in real life, on the streets, your instructor is not there and the attacker will come at you at full speed, choosing to attack in whatever way he wants, and you will NOT be able to counter this full speed and random attack. It's better to attack. My go-to strategy is to feint high, and then skip in for a stomp at the guy's knee or shin. Legs are powerful weapons, but can be damaged very easily. One good kick can break a leg or severely compromise a guy's ability to walk or run. Make a good kick, and you might be able to walk away and leave the other guy helpless to even try to chase you.

    This guy is on point with everything he’s saying especially when he says today in martial arts people don’t want to be touched and the hold resentments if the lose in a sparring session.

    I love watching your teachings. However, I do have a question. I’m a 63 yr old gulf war veteran and am looking for a way of defending myself without a weapon. How can I practice these moves at home that would be effective?

    I practiced Shotakan Karate for ten years, was in the best shape of my life, but in pain all the time. Now I’m 80 don’t practice anymore but wish I had kept it up. Shotokan cannot beat a street fighter who knows his stuff, This man knows his stuff, and had I put the years in with him instead of Shotokan, I’d be SO much better. This gentleman knows his business inside and out, and is not arrogant or prideful, but wants to teach.

    Professor James ! Osu! As a native of the Bronx, who moved to Brooklyn, before relocating to NC -I can relate so well to all that was mentioned. A huge difference in todays Martial Artist vs the way it use to be ...I learned Kyokushin under the great Shihan Randolph James in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn . Growing up with around the true Legends, Professor Vee , Oliver Williams, Ronald Duncan, Moses Powell , and of course Professor David James . It is a very different environment and atmosphere of teaching. Outstanding video that all should take heed. Simple moves , strategies and techniques from the original source. I completely understand the 3 second subdue methods. Proud to watch this video . Osu!

    I was lucky to catch this really excellent video. I was captivated by the truths spoken by Professor David. He has a no nonsense approach to looking after yourself. He is so right, it's not about fighting it's about survival.
    I started my journey in Martial Arts as a young child in the fifties. And I have always stressed that out in the street there are no rules. On the fight floor if you lose then the next time you try harder. But on the street you absolutely cannot afford to lose. Because if you do there may not be a next time. This is the same message I get from the Professor.
    I'm old now and have serious issues. But if I lived near where the Professor has his teaching facility, I would like to visit.
    By the way I subbed immediately.
    ALL THE BEST TO EVERYONE.
    .

    Really good advice for the street. I got into one to many fights in my teens and 20s. I usually won. I’m athletic and tall. But whenever I fought someone that actually trained daily, it was a fight. Fought a pro boxer once. Much shorter and 60 pounds lighter. He whooped my ass for 5 minutes. Lessons n learned. Train. Or run lol. My rule is get off first. If it’s going down and you have zero options left strike first. I’m 62 now and can’t remember last fight I had. I guess I’m just wiser. I’m from Brooklyn. This guy I’d bet my paycheck is from NY. God bless you guys. I wish I lived there still. I’d make the trip and train there.

    It's about time that there is a realistic martial arts instructor to learn from. All the other instructors I find, remind me of that one guy that you're getting ready to street fight and they wanna list the rules and fair fighting that will be involved. Yeah right, rules and fair fighting in a street fight, you betcha lmmfao!!! Thank you sir for finally bringing realistic teachings to street fighting.
