I'm new to the channel and appreciate these lessons. I am a 3rd degree brown belt in karate that hasn't practiced in years. The 2 videos I have watched really struck a cord with me because I feel the mainstream karate schools are setting people up for a false sense of security. While they train people to throw kicks and get them limber enough to do so I think a large majority would not perform well in a street fight. While my sensei is a bad dude he has eaten, breathed, drank and slept karate for decades and I would hate to see what happened to the guy who attacked him, but to teach techniques where you block a single punch and counter is grossly inaccurate. I have been a few fights in my life and there has never been a situation where someone threw a single punch and left it hanging out there while you go to work on them. There is a fury of punched grabbing trying to get you on the ground on top of you to pound on you. I feeling what you are covering here is much more realistic view of how fights really happen and ways to attack and survive in real world situations. Please keep the content coming.
It's not the art it's the mindset of the practitioner . There are people who can use their art quite well, but they can't hurt someone, or they are still afraid for real combat no matter what belt rank they are . I never stood in one art . I jumped from art to art . I left BJJ fast it's trained as a sport in most gyms . The schools want trophies and belts . I'm not trying to wrestle someone . I liked the Philippines' art myself 🔪 . I'm a true practitioner of Brian Gray training as well . And I don't believe in self-defense it doesn't exist unless your state has a Stand Your Ground law . So I train in self-offense . Once I feel uncomfortable in sensation. I will hit first my philosophy is punish them for coming in and punish them exiting out . I don't play at any level . Due to anything can go wrong, lol 😆 . Step in a pot hole bye-bye balance or a sprain ankle while some young buck pounding on you, lol . Mother Earth will dictate the fight as well . I'm glad I trained in the late 70ies and 80ies. we actually did hard sparring . I got beat up in school all well most of the time . Split lips , black eyes , bruises, and sprains . But am I a martail artist ? No, I'm not .
I trained krav and learned this early. The more complicated you make it the less likely a student will, or will be able to use it. After months of training I was amazed how natural and automatic my responses became because ed they never changed. Fist elbow knee kick repeat. Very simple. You dont need a different response for each attack scenario. If you train that way then when the attack comes you'll be frozen trying to remember which technique to use!
Professor Dave, we definitely see that V A J is the real deal. No fluff, no BS, just real serious techniques that get the job done. Much appreciated. Thank you both. Peace
1 word, FEAR! that's stopping the attacked from attacking the attacker. Afraid, IF, I don't get this right, this would be my ass. that's my opinion. Great video again.
Pain doesn’t stop a Determined Attacker, especially a Determined Attacker under the Influence of Drugs & Alcohol if he's Psychotic or Emotionally Disturbed.
Thank you for your videos. Just happened to find you on my phone. I'am 72 years old. Some meth head came up to my car(window was down),and swung at me.luckily missed. I drove away. What would you of done? What can a 72year old do to protect himself and win a fight? I'am in pretty good shape for my age.
What an amazing and yet educational session by the master of self-defense. Please share this great content, especially with family and friends. It will be best present you ahve ever gifted.
Why do people like hugging the arm so much? I see that and think the attacker would kick out my knees, and take my back to stab me from behind with a knife unseen but produced into his left hand. That is what I worry about. I have trained FMA (PTK, Abantu Academy, Wing Chun Kali Systems) and have been avidly watching Vee A J videos since 2008.
Again, good expose of other arts dangerous lack of praticality and full effectivness. I was a little confused, though, about running around an attacker close quarters who's swinging a bat with full force. Can the feet and body spiral around faster than the attackers' two arms swinging? Jumping and spinning out the way, outside reach of a swinging bat, yes, but close quarter spinining? I'm not sure about that.
Yes, sir you are absolutely correct. That traditional martial arts training is not effective enough for ultimate street self-defense. I have learned something very beneficial from your video. Thank you!!!
I see a lot of Aikido principles in the principles. I have an Aikido background. I see weaknesses in Aikido also, but this scenario, Aikido would work. Much love and respect to Professor David and Shihan Kenny.
Recognizing the psychological weaknesses of non-highly trained combatants and adjusting the techniques to work for them is impressive. Please open a Toronto Canada location so I can train. (7 martial arts studied, but despite this I haven’t found such practical techniques being offered.)
Thank you for supporting our channel. if you are interested in getting more information you can contact us at livefitstaysafe@gmail.com. Professor David
I agree that if you are in a position to have to defend against an attacker, you have to act with 100% effort; no quarter given. Never be the easy target.
It has never made sense to me to engage in wrestling when defending one's self. I'm not trying to gun wrestle, knife wrestle, or baton wrestle. I'm going to attack and injure. Period. I'm not wrestling. I'm not doing Krav Maga or Kalah. I'm attacking and injuring to debilitation.
@@JustWill1965 It depends on the direction of the vector and how it's coming toward me. In general, if the attack were coming to me widely from above or the side, as presented in this video, I would rotate and penetrate on the 11 or 1 o'clock angle and attack the radial and median nerves of the striking arm(s) with my ulna bone, thus making the hand open up, while simultaneously making the person lose balance. I would subsequently, or simultaneously, strike the body or the neck, whichever is immediately appropriate, given how I attacked the attack. The basic concept is that you want to find yourself at the end of the arc of the weapon's attack, because that's where the attack is weakest, but where you are in the strongest position to attack the attack.
I really enjoyed your perspective. Professor David, your loud exuberance will take me a little getting used to, but your passion is very apparent. I really enjoyed this video in particular. I remember the old FMA saying “move or die”. Good stuff. Great concepts. I also love watching coach Britt of the Las Vegas fighting academy. He has a lot of great material as well. Good video.
I really like your videos, but this one I disagree on. One crucial point missed out by the krav guy video, was a total absence of blocking the bat arm with a double block. You need to do a double block on the arm to stop the bat, not just throwing the upper arm over the bat arm. Doing that you are already in infight and you are not positioned to strike the way you show. Shortest time to followup with a strike is right hand karate style sideways to the attackers right hand side of the neck, temporarily (or permanent😳) blocking the artery to the brain. That is the proper krav technique on this and not the one showed initially in this video. If there was no need for a double block of the bat arm, I would agree with you.
Agreed, I said the samething. Why lock onto the arm ? You had a freebie to the face, and you took it . And you still had control of the arm, but I never would have never thought of grabbing the jacket . Plus, he is driving in with that bat he gonna go in that direction as well. You get enough power, and he will leave Mother Earth for a split second he will hit the ground lol lol . lol. 😆 🤣 😂 thanks, Professor and Kenny . Good stuff !
Prof David, I’m just curious how big y’all are. You don’t look small. Kenny doesn’t look small. You guys might qualify as “bigger dudes” , esp Kenny. Your advice is meant for big and not big people, and I appreciate that! Just curious.
The old saying is , the best form of defence is ATTACK. You have this spot on. Great lesson, thanks.
Cause Pain!
Professor David spot on as usual!!
Vee AJ JuJitsu is much Smarter Self Defense. Thank you Professor David and Shihan Kenny.

Excellent video!
Solid, awesome breakdown! Love the energy and positivity.
Bedankt
Pain hurts!
thanks
Well done. This video really shows VAJ is an intelligent system.
Phenomenal advice and instruction!
Turn your speakers down in the room, when you're recording. It's feeding back. For the video, you don't need to have your speakers on.
Good video

What then is your approach or way of protecting yourself?
@@JustWill1965Can you please clarify your question? I'm not sure of what you're asking.
@SherwoodPrepper1 Yes, I mean, how would you defend yourself against a knife attack like Professor David and Shihan Kenny were demonstrating ?

Great video
thank you I like this. I went to a School that taught me nothing but forms. I learned to dance. no self-defense
nice
The attacker could also have access to a knife for his left hand.
Controlling the weapon arm is crucial because there is no guarantee that a ballistic Strike will work with a Determined Attacker.
great as usual! Is there any VAJ in Australia?

PAY ATTENTION! "Nice Hook"!
Excellent information!
LMCFO! Moving is a better option than blocking a live bat swing! Retreating is a great option too if possible.

Well done sir peace

Thank you professor David
