      Fuzz Capp, you write "Actually, you just write it backwards. (Sorry to burst the bubble.)" as if it were easy. If that were true, you would have written one yourself... but you have not. Sorry to REALLY burst your bubble.

      I believe he said he has written stuff like this himself and got awards for it. However, coming up with the original idea is the genius part. Copying a style or previous method is easy.

      I just came up with the word "bubbleburstception". It's a clever and original play on words with the name of a movie that I sadly forgot, therefore I can't explain the utter genius of my comment.

      I grew up with the "2 Ronnies" and loved every sketch at that time. Seeing the above video just confirms what geniuses we were witnessing in Barker and Corbett.

      The challenge is it’s exceptionally written for the time, but loses impact with each decade.
      As an example of technically virtuosity it is unparalleled, but only so many people remember the names, whereas four candles is funny in any English speaker in the last few centuries.
      Enduring proof that while we may judge ourselves by our smartest moments, it was our most intelligible ones that will define us when we’re gone

    • @sidpheasant7585
      @sidpheasant7585 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But somehow (clever though he was), Barker always had that hard ruthless edge to his comedy - and maybe himself? In contrast, Corbett was tangibly a sweet person and that shone through. In contrast, in the case of Laurel and Hardy they were both lovely guys - in every sense of the term. How could a Brit and an American born in different circumstances thousands of miles apart possibly unite as a comedy double-act? Because it was needed by humanity, and the Holy Spirit can do all things He needs to. L&H operated in a Los Angeles replete with dirt, sleaze, crime, corruption and death (some absolutely awful murders included). They were the then knights in shining armour, in all of there beautiful (and funny) innocence. The Ronnies could not quite match that, good though they were ... and indeed most comedians tip their hats to Laurel and Hardy (and, God-willing, will be doing so 1 century, or 1000 years, from now).

    Two masters of their art in one of their very best sketches. I was always a fan of their shows, including Ronnie B.s own classics such as "Porridge" and "Open All Hours", and this is true story.
    In 1971, Ronnie Corbett starred in a summer season show in Great Yarmouth, and while it was running, he stayed throughout the summer in a small nearby village where I was living at the time while still at school. My daily routine was to cycle 2 miles to the next village to connect with school transport, as we were not on the normal bus route, and several times Ronnie had passed me in his Rolls Royce while I was on my way home. Anyway, this one afternoon I was walking the 2 miles back home, and Ronnie stopped the Rolls and offered me a lift, (different times folks ! ), and so I jumped in. I remember asking how the show was going, and in those days there would be 2 shows a day to packed theatres. He cracked a joke or two about living "in the sticks", and all through that summer was happy to mingle with folk in our village when he could find the time. Happy days !
