I remember vividly when this first went out. It seemed the whole nation watched it. Everyone tried speaking in sentences consisting entirely of letters, people you didn't know did it in shops and cafes. The Two Ronnies were adored. Ronnie Barker wrote much of the wordplay material and the two together created hundreds of brilliant characterisations that you understood in just a few seconds and then played their parts with perfect comedic timing. Genius.

Someone had sent me the Hearing Aids Salesman episode via WhatsApp about a year or so ago. I loved it so much that I saw almost all of their skits in TH-cam.
This one - the Swedish Lesson - cheered up a dull day.
Here's my tribute to these two timeless masters of comedy:
The Two Ronnies, Barker and Corbett
Were in every way brilliant and perfect
    Their wordplay and irreverence
    Seasoned with ribald insouciance
Made life more bearable on this planet

    The two Ronnie's were Brilliant.
Every thing they did was so fantastic and how they managed to play it to the hilt.
Excellent and if you don't have a laugh from it you are miserable.
    Great for brightening the day.😁😁

If I had to do the captions, here is what I would do:
    0:04 Good evening.
0:05 My name is Professor Gevister Ownvankar * Biddon.
0:11 Tonight we have a Swedish lesson for you, but there’s a difference.
    0:15 It is in Norwegian.
0:18 Now I expect some of you are wondering why I am dressed as a waiter.
0:23 It is because tonight, our lesson is entitled “In the Restaurant”, or as we say in Sweden “Im De Restaurant”.
0:32 But before we go over to the scene, let me explain that as we act out our little drama for you, there will be on the screen subtitles, which, as you know, are used in Swedish films, and which are necessary to explain to the English people what is going on in the bedroom scenes.
0:51 To make it easier, we spell it out for you, we use only one letter for each word.
0:59 Now this also helps with the pronunciation, instead of putting “ Hello” we put “L.O.
1:09 You see on similarly, here we have here, P.T, you see pity.
1:17 And here we have C.T, city.
    1:29 T.T.
1:36 And here, we have another picture for you.
1:40 Now come with me and we will begin the lesson.
    1:51 L.O. (Hello.)
    1:55 L.O (Hello.)
    1:59 R.U.B.C. (Are you busy?)
2:03 S.V.R.B.C. (Yes. We are busy.)

The Two Ronnies DID makes sense, it's just that their sketches were so quick you have to be really on the ball. I had to watch the mispronunciation sketch 5 times to get it all, it's so clever! May I also remind those who are offended by the accent, of The Swedish Chef on the Muppets?! Do you criticise the puppet for not sounding swedish?

It's brilliant, considering how this is how cyber people chat on the internet like this now..............20 odd years before the event. And i fell about laughing realizing you do not get the "P T" picture joke till he says "CT" for the second pic....

If you like this, you'd probably like the two small books by William Steig, "CDB" and its sequel "CDC."
CDB was published in 1968, before The Two Ronnies began to air. Nevertheless, these guys did a GREAT job with the idea.

I saw this for the first time just the other day and I couldn't stop laughing like an idiot, thank goodness my parents introduced me to The Two Ronnies :)

Thank goodness indeed; in today's PC world of crushing judgement and limited imagination you won't see their like again. V. happy that you love them and we can indeed thank providence that so many gems from the past were recorded.
