    You are what all drummers should be... Humble. I know that you know you are freaking incredible but you would never tell anyone that. The music world is full of exponentially huge egos and it puts a dark cloud over music. It's people like you that make the sun shine again. I wish you well and hope you go as far as possible. You have just become one of my inspirations. Thank you for being real...real good.

    I've always wanted someone to break down one of the guitar center drum solos. Thank you so much, I learned a lot about what you did, and what others have done.

    It's very encouraging to hear guys like JP, Mike Johnston, etc... talk about how difficult some of their patterns are when they first start working on them, and how long it takes even for them to get to a point where they can play them confidently in a live setting. Amazingly enough, they're just like the rest of us. Very encouraging to know.....

    I judged the first round at a GC in Connecticut and this is everything every person there was missing. People thought "psssh, i can just show up and hit the drums, i do it all the time" No one in these competitions approaches it as "I'm going to write a song and play it for the judges" Your composition and approach is something all drummers should strive for. Thanks for being an inspiration.

    JP, you make things sound so simple and yet you're so professional about all the musical theory you bring up. Watching you explain your solo was awesome!

    You are an inspiration for many musicians around the world. I play a four stringed folk guitar called "cuatro" (From Colombia and Venezuela) and I've found your philosophy as a person and musician as inspirational. Thanks for those cool videos. Hugs!

    I just wanted to ask a question about finger technique. Any tip to get better control and speed with your fingers? This is something that I struggle with and it seems to take some time to get comfortable with it... Btw, you are an awesome person and drummer and a huge inspiration to me. Keep doing these videos and have fun! Thanks.

  • @jamesdean3860
    @jamesdean3860 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    JP, How do you feel about the recent addition of sampler pads and other electronic auxilary sounds to the players set-up? I mean, obviously it worked well for you, and creates a whole new realm to soloing. But, personally I feel like it takes away from the organic idea of a player playing an acoustic drum solo, which over the years we have seen plenty of amazing players emerge. Drumming is definitely going in that direction, but do you feel it inhibits anything from the competition itself?

  • @JELLYS1AP

    The Octopad is optional. GC provides you with one in the competition, but you don't have to use it. However, I believe at this point, everyone, at least who wins, will be using an octopad.

    Great vid, great solo, one objection: When you're mixing your videos, listen to them on your quality studio monitors, but also on cheap $30 computer speakers. Not everyone can afford great hi-fi speakers, and though your mix sounds awesome I'll bet, some (most) people can't hear that quality due to the low-end overwhelming everything. Just a pointer that applies to actual studio recordings as well :)
    Sorry if I'm coming off rude, ignorant, arrogant, etc. It's just an observation. Keep drumming!

  • @TW12VEOFFICIAL
    @TW12VEOFFICIAL 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    So did you actually have to buy the octopad and program it or did you just make that up when you got there?

  • @fizzyfox
    @fizzyfox 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    What process did you go through to get the 7/8 clave so automatic that you could let rip with your other limbs? I can't piece together in my head a specific approach, or series of exercises that could cover such a vast number of permutations, while keeping the clave going. Any help you can give to help me to crack this would be REALLY appreciated!
