I really like the fact you’re filming indoors and using the screen. It’s much easier to see and understand what you are doing and where the ball is going.

I wish TH-cam had a way to play in slow motion. The first 10 seconds and your DTL swing is so sweet. That brief pause at the top while your lower half is firing is something I’d love to study. Anyway, like always, really great lesson! Thank you for sharing!

Extremely helpful as always Clay! Thanks for sharing. Also noticeable about the 3.30 mark how it is not helpful -as poor amateurs like myself tend to do on occasion- to retain the same spinal angle of inclination from address to the top of the backswing as you open up the shoulders

My best drives are shorter swings, recently started doing it and I ended up driving my ball longer with a 20mph headwind compared to overswining with a tail wind haha. Get a nice rhythm going and it's smooth sailing all day. Playing in a competition today so I hope I can get a good score, my dad wants me on his team because he thinks it's going to win him the beer at the end of the game, he can have mine too because I don't drink anymore haha.

For the amateur this is very good advice if you understand the mechanics of a catapult swing. If you will notice pro's don't really swing the club until the hands reach waist level. Torso shoulders and hips creates an illusion of swinging the club. They do it so effortlessly it's hard to catch.

  • @MPerski

Reminds me of the book, “Swing Easy, Hit Hard” by Julius Boros published in the early-60’s.
In the book, Mr Boros describes how to get a long drive with an easier, effortless swing. Basically you have to pull down with your left hand (right handers) and bring your hands down to nearly level with your knee, while keeping your left hand facing down (flat left wrist) and your right hand facing up. If you do this with a light grip and an easy swing, the clubhead will release from about 4' away in the same time it takes your hands to move the next 6" or about 8 times as fast.

hey Clay I'm gonna give you a tip today on swing short:
Take the club at address and instead of practicing the backswing, practice a shorter follow through, or finish...now swing
Voila, a perfect short swing every time...great for chips and pitches and putts
I should be on that PING team...have them contact me

Great video as usual Clay !! Could you do a video where you talk about "hovering" the club above the ball before you swing! A lot of golfers do it but none more apparent than Bryson DeChambeau !! I presume this is a "release" mechanism prior to your swing!!1 In contrary to this video I make a longer swing prior to contact. doing this. I believe Adam Scott does this too!!!! Thank you, Ray STAY WELL!!

@@TopSpeedGolf - Thank you Clay and your lessons are excellent. I would think with your skillset you could make more competing on the PGA?? Did you at one time play on the Tour or you were more comfortable providing us with your excellent lessons?? Bu the way I don't like what Bryson DeChambeau has done with his equipment and should be illegal. He is very bright and very good but all equipment should have certain parameters!!
Power is paramount but skill should still be a component!! Wonder what Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer would think if they were alive today???

Great video, I've always found when I try to swing more controlled on my approach. I would get much slower and stiff. No free flow.. though on a full swing my trigger is the arms reaching the peak height (and the wrists slightly bending, e.i. Berger, and dj) but I don't particularly have a good trigger sensation for the shorter swing... Any thoughts? Suggestions?

    A question for you Clay.
I don't have access to a grass driving range. At the moment I'm hitting the ball fairly well off the astro turf but I've noticed the good players are making a thud noise as they hit the ball from the astro turf with their irons.
Should I be doing that too?

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Artificial turf doesn't always provide the best feedback, unless you strike the ball way behind or way in front of the ball. While practicing off of this type of surface, I'd use impact tape or foot spray powder and work on where I'm striking the ball off of the face. I'd also work on hitting controlled draws and fades at command. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

The feeling of pulling down on the club as you near the top of your backswing as well is a lot of where the power comes from. The lower body is starting the transition as your arms are about 95% in the backswing.

Everything you say is correct however, I have watched your videos dozens of times and I have realized it’s just not possible to learn the golf swing from watching videos. Watching a video tells me what you do, it does not tell me what I do wrong and what I need to fix. So after spending too much time watching your videos I am going to take in person lessons. I wish I could take lessons from you but I can’t. I’ve tried taking video lessons and that is a terrible experience. The feedback loop is ridiculously slow and taking videos and uploading them is far too much work for a golf lesson.

Try Clay's top speed golf program. It's around $50 and well worth it. A lot of drills. I'm only in week 2. While I dont have a radar, I have to be swinging at least 10 mph with my driver already and much more solid. Irons are crisp and I went from a weak flip and sliding to a much more powerful, and less painful due to the spine angle drills, swing. Its cheaper and I'd argue better than in person lessons because you can keep going back and watching/practicing.
