    Hands down best coach on youtube without a doubt. I started watching clay about 1.5 years ago shooting 105s. A lot of work and dedication later and I'm shooting mid to high 80s right now. When people ask what I do for practice I say watch clay ballard on youtube lol

    Started watching when having issues with pulls. I normally shoot low 80s and high 70s but have shot under par before. His video desiring spine angle influencing the path made so much sense. I only thought that lean was only for woods or long irons. Great job explaining and helping those who go to TH-cam for a lot of advice and visuals.

    I love this studio setup. Less distracting than the golf course, but of course who doesn't like the beauty of nature. I hope I can come one day to fla for a lesson with you. I feel you are the only person who can lift me to the low 70's. Probably because I adapted my swing to your lessons. :)

    Thankyou Clay, I have had a number of coaching sessions but this video was the piece of information that has helped me greatly. The detail in how to get the hand in the correct position and to how to release the hands in the down swing. I can not believe the improvement in impact and speed it help generate. Again thankyou Clay.

    I have to say this guy keeps improving me. I took lessons from two guys. One actually got his teaching start from being taught by the first guy. Lol. Following this? Anyway, this video and another one by him talking of keeping the part where the right arm meets the elbow at the target has really worked for me. My problem is to not cast. Everything else is good. There are many ways to get where he is trying to get you to here, but this one is very tangible one. Everything he talks about coming into impact is gold.

    Would love to spend an hour on the range with you Clay. This one was a game changer! I've been striking my irons solid but having issues with flight off the driver. This drill instantly set my driver on the right path and helped with iron striking that I didn't realize I was missing! No growing pains after this drill either, I just felt locked in today.

    I’ve been playing for about 50 years and over that period of time I’ve have had numerous lessons from various instructors. They all told me a had a great swing, unfortunately the power was not there. About 4 years ago I started taking lessons from my current instructor. For a couple of years the lessons were very very sporadic several months between a lesson. About 2 years ago I was ready to toss in the towel but decided to take weekly lessons until I started to play better. I was taking my grandchildren to this lady and they have become good golfers. I figured that if she could teach children she should be able to help me. I’m 84 but willing to try completely changing my swing. It worked. I generally shoot my age or better. Fun was back in the game, but like all golfers I know this was not enough. I wanted longer off the tee and crisper iron shots. I happened on Clays you tube videos and really liked the in-depth explanations. For one thing he covered moves and drills I had been given before but had forgotten. End of story, I signed up for his program and can’t wait to get back to the range and course. Haven’t played since November due to weather etc. For the price you can’t beat the instruction.

    Clay, thank you so much…is it feasible to add power/energy to the swing by pushing up harder during release (almost as if jumping off left foot) - while maintaining the integrity of the shot?

    Clay another great lesson. Thanks very much. My biggest issue, having played baseball, is gravitating to have too much of a neutral left hand grip (I am a right handed golfer). I tend as the season goes on make my left hand too neutral not to hook the ball. Your lesson is a great reminder to me. Cheers.

    Golf Grip More in the Fingers: Great point you made in this video. For what it's worth, here's a personal tip for your viewers that I had noticed that few people think about.
    Interlocking the little finger when you grip the club puts the golf club grip more into the meaty part of the hands. Overlapping the little finger when you grip the golf club allows the golf club grip to rest more in the fingers.
    And to your point, the club being held more by the fingers allows for much more speed when you release the club. I also found that feeling the pressure points of just the last 3 fingers of the left hand controlling the grip allows for maximum release speed.
    Great video as always. Thanks.

    Hi Clay! I know you were involved with Rotary Swing and Chuck. I don't know if you're in contact with him at all these days, or if you are up to date with what they are publishing. But RST talks quite a bit about avoiding over rotation and basically says the body can't keep up with the release anyway, and that it's important for parts earlier in the kinetic chain to start slowing down in oder for the outer most part (the club) to whip through.
    What you are saying has many similarities to RST but you also seem willing to entertain a more active and continuously pulling body?
    What's your view on how far the shoulders rotate before release takes over and then the club becomes responsible for pulling the shoulders to the finish?

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's always a good idea to only follow one instructor at a time to avoid conflicting/confusing information regardless of who that instructor is. To answer your last question, the shoulders don't stop rotating until the club is about shoulder height in the follow through. Play well! Nate | TSG Instructor

    Are there any modifications to this process for hitting the driver? Other than ball position and distance from the ball?

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No sir. It's the same swing/concepts with all full shots. The plane will be naturally flatter with a longer club and the ball gets moved forward with the driver, but all else remains the same. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

    Could you do this with a neutral grip and bow the wrist at the top to avoid having to consciously do anything with the hands/wrist?

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regardless of what grip you use, you'll likely need to make some type of adjustment with the hands somewhere in the swing. That being said, if you take a stronger grip, the amount of bowing needed will be mitigated. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

    At impact I find that the left hand is ahead of the left elbow as your swing also shows this. Having the left elbow lead the downswing causes a breakdown of the arms, at least for me it does.

    When we let the wrists be free swinging hinges, then the kinematic sequence* squares the clubface as the body turns.
    * the kinematic sequence means the torso decelerates in DS, that causes the arms to accelerate, and when arms decelerate
    the golf club accelerates, then decelerates which causes the clubhead to accelerate(about the hosel) at impact.
    No release. Body turn and physics allowed to accelerate the clubhead.
    From top of BS simply have intent to keep the right palm(right hand swinger) facing the sky through impact.
    Of course momentum and the kinematic sequence will ensure the clubface captures the inside quadrant of the ball.

    The "power" move with the left side, comes from elevating the left shoulder, before beginning the BS.
    Test: standing upright, shoulders down , extend both arms straight in front.
    Now elevate the left shoulder an inch toward the left ear. Now extend both arms, noting added 10-12 inches of extra extension in the left arm+scapula.
    Its how Ben Hogan wore a hole in his golf shirts where his chin rubbed against his golf shirts.

    Great video! The shallowing of the plane and subsequent release combined with an athletic stance and maneuver toward the ball is a great drill for medium to high handicappers or for anyone who wants to cure their slice and hit it harder and longer.
    For low handicappers, whose tendency is to do too much shallowing on the downswing, I'm a big fan of some of the stuff taught by the 'other' Ballard (Jimmy).
