I'm really proud of it and will post soon in the FB group. I am originally a bag maker but only work fabric/machine... But i think some of those skills definitely helped.

Gorgeous hat, Tony! Living here in the heart of TX I thought I might share how cowboys form the brim shape without the wire. Steam. Steam and hand work to coax it into shape and it stays. ;)
Steam will work but to really get the exact shape you will need a block as well so that as it dries it takes the shape. Just using your hands will take multiple times to get a really good result.

Just made this as my first ever leatherworking project since I made a wallet in cub scouts 40 years ago. Lined the inside with some beautiful Indonesian batik fabric, black leather, bottle strap. Its something alright. My fingers are bleeding in weird places.

Great design im nearly finished mine just need to attach the brim to the crown. its the first leather thing i ever made and i dont think its hard just time consuming . If this is anyone's first leather project like it was mine here are some tips. 1. put something round the hole punch it can hurt to hold after a while or wear gloves 2. buy the long thin needles he uses cheap short ones are not easy to work with and impossible to double push i learnt the hard way. the biggest hat size has a 40" edge with the 2inches included turns out this is exactly the same length as cheap wire hangers dry cleaners use. this is after you cut off the twisted section. regular wire hangers are too thick but cheap ones are perfect which allowed me to finish the hat while working nights. I did mine on a budget a poundland chopping board and mallet and cheap punches but it got me to the end no problem next are corset hat gloves mask wallet and biker vest. roll on TG i cant wait

But you got me when you said when you finish punching 20-30 holes, what 1500 i can't tell them that, so when you are finished punching the 40 holes. I had to subscribe and comment... stopped video to do that. Now onto the rest of the video.

Hi Tony downloaded the coachman and bowler had ,ready to make a start i have 2.6mm veg tan for main hat ,what do you recommend the thickness of hat brim surround ,you said to use a thinner leather ,would approx 1.8 be ok to use for brim a steel insert

Hello Sir, first, very nice work and thanks a lot for the aging technique! (although the leather I used might not be the same because I had to rub it extremely hard and even though it aged it didn't become "black"). So I bought your pattern and made the hat, but still have some question : - how thin is the strap around the brim? You said thinner but I didn't know how much so I went for 1.6mm - how do you end your stitches : for the last cross? It seems there's only one string so you don't end with the 2 needles for the last cross? - The hat is not very comfortable for the forehead, and I think for me it's because I used a 1mm thick wax thread of linen and not polyester like you did, so my thread isn't as flat as yours and it hurts the forehead. Do you flatten your seams with a hammer or not? - do you usually add a strap of leather or fabric inside your hats for comfort or not? Thank you very much again for the video and the pattern and I hope you'll find the time to answer my interrogations, I always ask myself a lot of questions. Best of luck for you futur projects!
i leave about 3 mm at the end of my stitched and melt them with a lighter i dont flatten the seems but you could add a sweat band from soft leather or material. That should help
@@DieselpunkRo Not flattened and try a sweatband, thanks a lot for taking the time to answer me ^^ One last thing, it seams like you're dyeing some of the edges, I could see the change of color from one point of the video to another and there was a little stain but I might not be right ~~
Hi everybody. I attempted this hat. I think it was to much for my skill level. I could not get the brim right. I will try again after more practice with easier patterns. I wont give up though.. Part of my problem is my eye sight. I cut to close to the stitching hole when I cut it out. I couldn't see the line. That's something I have to deal with.

Does anyone know what head circumference of all 8 patterns are? I’ve seen a few comments with 62.5 being the largest. But what about the other 7?

awesome, loved the tutorial. But I have a question, how do you size it? if the pattern is to small or large, how do you scale to the perfect size?
there are 8 different sizes in the package from S to XXL, so just determine your size and choose the appropriate one, no adjustments necessary

It depends on the exact head circumference
@DieselpunkRo so import the pattern into photoshop and increase/decrease the size until the inner circle of the brim is the right size for the head
