The Germans had developed a kind of computer that would allow them to predict where a plane would go, and this directed their anti aircraft. Problem was the computer was calibrated to fast flying planes of the day, and not something like the slow swordfish planes.
They took Primo Victoria (the boat) out to the coordinates where the wreck lays on the ocean floor, froze there off, the captain of Primo Victoria is a descendent of a Bismarck crew member that survived the sinking of Europe's largest battleship.

And to answer your question, the hunt for Bismarck took place during WWII. At the time it was the biggest and most advanced battleship in the world which is why the Allies feared it so, and sent everything they had within range to hunt it down the moment it made a break for the Atlantic.

The "Bismarck" set sail in May 1941 to reach the Atlantic and destroy merchant convoys, but he was intercepted by the British and during a brief fight, destroyed the former flagship of the British fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, the worldwide famous battlecruiser "Hood", by penetrating her armor and detonating her aft main ammunition magazine and killing all 1400 members of her crew except for 3 men, and heavily damaged the battleship "Prince of Wales". This enraged the prime minister Winston Churcil who ordered all his ships in the Atlantic to abandon their operations and destroy the Bismarck. In total more than 40 ships participated to the hunt, making it the biggest naval hunt in history. Meanwhile Bismarck, who had received a hit during the first battle, was leaking fuel and was trying to reach the French port of Saint Nazaire, in occupied France, for repair. After 3 days of playing cat and mouse with the British, Bismarck was attacked by airplanes launched from the aircraft carrier "Ark Royal" and hit by a torpedo in the stern, which jammed his rudders during evasive manuvers, meaning that he was forced to sail in circles, just a few miles away from reaching air cover. In the end battleships "King George V" and "Rodney", along side the heavy cruisers "Norfolk" and "Dorsedshire" fought the already doomed battleship and, during the following 90 minutes completely destroyed it. However, despite having all his guns destroyed, and having received more than 400 hits (out of the 2800 shells that the British had fired at it) his armor was still mostly intact and the ship was still afloat. So the british launched another 4 torpedoes and he disappeared beneath the waves. After inspection of the wreck however it had been discovered that the torpedoes did no significant damage thanks to the battleship's extensive underwater protection, and that Bismarck had probably been scuttled by his crew (although it should be noted that many historians believe that it would have eventually sunk due to the damage received). Of the 2200 men that served on it only 114 survived
To answer your question on why the aircrafts look like they're from World War 1 it's because during the 1930s and early stages of World War 2 torpedo technology wasn't advance and needed to be dropped close to the target and aimed accurately, and from low-level because the delicate mechanisms of the torpedo wouldn’t work if it hit the water falling too fast and a Biplane was an ideal plane for torpedo attacks due to its low speed.
You are right about your observation with the biplanes. Swordfish torpedo bombers were very outdated at the time but this happened pretty early on in the war
and were so slow that they didnt lose a single one because Bismarck's AA guns were designed for faster more modern planes and couldnt accurately shoot at them. LOL

Even the small older Swordfishplanes are accurate . Since the english used them to go real low and somewhat under the radar and the smaller units were also harder to hit . (+what the other advantages ASDrake mentions here below)
This is ww2 in 1941 bismarck after firing it's fifth salvo at hms hood it had a magazine explosion and sunk in 3 minutes with 1,915 out of the 1,918 going down with the ship.
The cinematography used is the trailer for the Bismarck and H.M.S Hood for a game called World of Warships. Sabaton do allot of collaborations with the developers of games called "War Thunder" and "World of Warships" and what an absolutely amazing Band.
The swordfish torpedo bombers had some advantages... it's low speed made for a more stable platform for dropping torpedoes which at the time really needed to be dropped in a narrow window of altitudes and speed. America didn't go that route because they had lots of money and resources to build things like the Avenger torpedo bomber. The other major advantage was actually quite interesting. Anti-aircraft weaponry was usually equipped with explosive shells instead of lead bullets or penetrators. The idea is that you can deal a lot more damage to aircraft with shrapnel than the occasional bullet passing through. The Swordfish however had a hull made primarily of textiles instead of metal so the anti-aircraft bullets would go right through them harmlessly. Aircraft like that don't care if there's a few tiny holes in it, it will still fly. This allowed the aircraft to return to base without any losses.

As it stands, some interesting things come out about Bismarck. First, his 15" guns, when fired full broadside, knocked out his own radar. Second, the Bismarck had issues dealing with aircraft. His anti-air guns (AA) could not elevate high enough to be effective, when the Swordfish torpedo-bombers came after Bismarck. Third, about the aircraft. Not only were the airplanes from World War I, most nations were hesitant to spend money on airpower, even after the war began. Most military leaders thought World War II would be another war of trench warfare; the German blitzkrieg, "lightning war," put an end to that thought. It wasn't until 1941 that planes began being developed that resembled what we know, such as the Spitfire II (UK), the P-40 Warhawk, P-47 Thunderbolt, and the P-38 Lightning (US), the Yak-3 (Russia), the A6M "Zero" fighter of Japan, and finally, the BF-109 and BF-110 of the German Luftwaffe. Most early planes were still of World War I vintage, such as the PO-2 trainer planes given to the 588th Night Bombing Regiment of the Soviet Air Forces, the "Night Witches," which was a single-engine fighter that was a cloth and wood biplane, the same as the Swordfish torpedo-bombers you see here.

for context: this song is about the warship Bismarck, the pride of the German navy during WW2, it had a sister ship the Tirpitz, that ship was sunk off the coast of Norway where it rests to this day as a protected wargrave. the Bismarck was meant to be great 'equaliser' for Germany at sea and their primary weapon to disrupt the American trade ships supplying Britain with much needed food and munitions in order to starve the British out and force a surrender of the last nation not to succumb to the Nazi warmachine, due to how prized the ship was, the commanders of the German navy sent this ship out without informing Hitler of what they were doing for fear of retribution from him, it was supposed to travel up the eastern side of Britain and loop around Scotland through the straight between Scotland and Iceland, where it would then take up routes throughout the north Atlantic sinking as many shipping runs as possible between the UK and the US. thanks to Norway they provided intel that a massive German ship was moving into the North Sea off the British coast, so it was ordered to be followed, the Royal Navy sent the pride of the fleet the HMS Hood along with a few other ships to intercept this German ship and its escort the Prince Eugen, the Bismarck tried to evade the Royal Navy ships but ended up being forced into engagement, through a lucky shot it hit the HMS hood in the primary munitions chamber of the vessel and instantly destroyed the flagship of Britain, killing almost all onboard save for a handful of survivors, the HMS prince of wales fired on the Bismarck but also took damage and was forced to pull back out of combat lest she also be sunk. it was determined that the Bismarck was not to escape and was to be destroyed by any means necessary, so the Royal Navy chased the Bismarck which was damaged by an extremely lucky strike by a Swordfish torpedo to the rudder, and while this didn't cripple the ship, it forced it into a situation where it could not turn properly and was restricted in what max speed it could achieve meaning that as time went on it became impossible to outrun the pursuing British fleet, as the Bismarck tried to reach France (which had already been overrun by the German army at this point) in order to signal for the German air force to provide air support to allow the Bismarck to get into a dock to get repaired it became apparent however that they would have to stand and fight, and after a lucky shot from the British fleet, hitting the command deck of the Bismarck killing any who were in there at the time, command of the ship fell to Ernst Lindemann who called for the ship to be scuttled and all remaining hands to abandon ship, in the music video it is Ernst Lindemann shown carving the co-ordinates of approximately where the Bismarck would sink. as far as the music video is concerned it is a collaboration between the game development company 'wargaming' famous for their games 'world of warships' and 'world of tanks', hence why all the ships shown are both historically accurate as well as the CGI being extremely high quality. the older guy who is captaining the fishing boat that the band is playing on is the real life son of the soldier that was given the compass pocketwatch by Admiral Ernst Lindemann on the Bismarck, and the one used in the music video is just a prop but he does in fact own the original still. it should also be noted that the wreck of the Bismarck was found by the same person who found the wreck of the RMS Titanic, Robert Ballard, and to this day the actual location remains secret to protect it as a wargrave to those who died there, the true location known to very few people.

There were a lot of weapons, ships, planes, etc. that saw action in WW1 were used again during WW2. Many of the battleships from all over were used during WW1. Of course, all were overhauled and modernized over time. In between the World Wars, the Interwar Period, there were treaties that limit the construction of new battleships and all navies retained many of their older vessels to compensate. Only a handful of new-gen battleships partook in WW2. Germany's Kreigsmarine's Scharnhorst-class and Bismarck-class. Italy's Regia Marina's Vittorio Veneto-class. The Imperial Japanese Navy's Yamato-class. The British Royal Navy's King George V-class. And the US Navy's North Carolina-class, South Dakota-class, and Iowa-class. Fun fact. The Iowa-class battleships were the only class of battleships in all of the world to be brought back on several occasions up until the 90's.
The british was a bit behind at this time so the planes they were using "swordfish" was from first worldwar and used as torpedo bombers, but replace shortly after this.

i listen to sabaton for about 17 years now, and i have to say, i actually learned more from sabaton about our history then from school, cause you don't get all the dirty details in school. They just present us as heros in their wars, but not how it actually was.
The Swordfish, the plane depicted had a unique history, it wasn't a WW1 aircraft, it was introduced in 1936, and was in use to the end of the war. It could carry a 1760 lbs torpedo, or a 1500 lbs. mine or that much in bombs. It had a range of over 500 miles and performance wise it beat the Devastator that the Americans started the war with. Which was a monoplane. It also mounted radar so it could perform night attacks. It looked primitive, but really wasn't. They teamed up with World of Warships for the effects.
That's the irony of history, that what was then the most modern warship was so badly damaged at the rudder by WWI planes that she was no longer able to escape her pursuers.
hey guys, believe it or not those planes were the ACTUAL type they used in the 2nd world war, in that situation at least. First of all though it was the British navy, they launched them from one of there early aircraft carriers, one that was "old" and only carried swordfish biplane torpedo bombers, they had to approach at wave Hight to avoid the anti-aircraft guns from the Bismarck they were so slow, but could maintain lift at much lower speeds allowing for more accurate targeting. the torpedo bombers were able to hit one of her engines causing the ship to be trapped in a turn, making it an easy target for the fleet.

Sabaton is really really good (but I'm biased because i grew up just 40 km from their origin in Falun, Sweden)😂 But first I just wanted to mention another suggeted artist (was suggested when you did Tongi's version of "The winner takes it all") that also is a great "easter egg" within Sabaton: Tommy Johannsson, the blond guitarist. He has his own band Majestica (where he sings, write the music and play guitar) and does covers on YT (he has done a very good version of "the winner takes it all " ..but their are mamy mote ..ususally "Shes gone " is suggested for first reaction to his covers). Tommy also (besides guitar) plays bass, keyboard, drums, ..I suggest you look him up to see the deptht of the talent that lives in Sabaton (at hellfest 2019 Joakim lost his vocie and the guritarists (Tommy and Chris) had to jump in (with a couple of hours notice) and sing lead vocal for the entire show - from printed lyrics since they never had done/rehearsed the lead vocals parts before. You also need to check some official live stuff because Sabaton take their history serious but they are also so good live. Having lots of fun between themselves but also with the audience . You can actually watch the same song ..first offical music video, then animated version and then live and find them to all have a place ..not being redundant.

Did you know that both Germans and the Japanese in WWII had the largest Battleships in the world? They were larger then the USS Missouri and USS Iowa. The Germans had the the Bismarck and Tirpitz over 50,000 tons but both were destroyed and sent to the bottom. The Japanese Imperial Navy had Battleships Yamato and Musashi that were over 72,000 tons with the largest naval guns in history. USS Missouri had 16 inch cannons but Yamato and Musashi had 18.1 inch cannons.

What alotof folls dont realie is the bismark was dead in the water and still refused to sink despite the damage she suffered. The germans soon said fuckit basically and sunk it themsleves and allied forces claim they sink it bit tlit was herown crew that sunk it instead.

"WW1 aircraft" that were designed in 1935 and were VERY capable & adaptable heavy lift, short take off torpedo bomber / reconnaisance aircraft, capable of operating in the most mountainous of seas that would've seen more "modern" aircraft being kept safely lashed down in an aircraft carrier's "hangar deck".

yea, the crew shuttle Bismarck themselves, maybe with a few more days the allied would have managed to sink it, but they found all the torpedo walls from Bismarck that had no damage and the only cannon hots that went through Bismarck armour was waaaay above the water line where the armor were the thinnest when rudder was damaged and it could only go in circles it was doomed eventually, but the allied did not sink it, the german crew did to prevent the flagship of the country to fall into enemy hands
John, the planes are completely accurate, the Swordfish the RN was operating were a mid 1930s design, obsolescent but quite capable if there weren't modern fighters in range. The replacement for them was a botched design, so the Swordfish hung around almost to the end of the war. If you look up any plane that any belligerent started with in 39 and then look up the one it replaced, you're likely to find a biplane and of the top of my head can't think of any country that had more than two generations of monoplanes of any type enter service.
Emphasis on "if there weren't modern fighters in range". When Swordfish tried to stop the Channel dash in early 1942, they got murdered by the Luftwaffe.

Basically KMS Bismarck had the best Anti-Aircraft guns known to the world at the time. The bombers they were using were gifted to the British by the US, giving them World War I planes that could survive being low to the water, and could take a hit from an antiaircraft gun, so they would fly underneath the range of the guns so that they could properly bomb Bismarck without getting shot down. She was so much of a threat, that they sent the entire royal navy after her
During the 2nd world War, Great Britian was still a colonial power!! But was beginning to lean slowly, as a Democracy. But, they were still relying on British Naval powers to crush Admiral Dunitz naval fortitude!!: big mistake, on both sides!! So many sailors lost!!! Sailors, the world over, a different breed; I had joined the US NAVY, IN 84. I RESPECTED MY NAVAL ADVISARY. AND NEVER UNDERESTIMATED HIS POTENTIAL FOR SEAMANSHIP, & COMAT!!!

The Germans had developed a kind of computer that would allow them to predict where a plane would go, and this directed their anti aircraft. Problem was the computer was calibrated to fast flying planes of the day, and not something like the slow swordfish planes.
They took Primo Victoria (the boat) out to the coordinates where the wreck lays on the ocean floor, froze there off, the captain of Primo Victoria is a descendent of a Bismarck crew member that survived the sinking of Europe's largest battleship.
Specifically, he's the son of the last crew member, who was very old and ill at the time this was filmed.
Actually, she's the second largest. The largest European battleship is actually Bismarck's sister ship Tirpitz.

And to answer your question, the hunt for Bismarck took place during WWII. At the time it was the biggest and most advanced battleship in the world which is why the Allies feared it so, and sent everything they had within range to hunt it down the moment it made a break for the Atlantic.
Wargaming also helped produce the Video for Primo Victoria and later Steel Commander.
I like to think of this video as the band sailing out and performing a summoning ritual, allowing Bismarck and his foes to return to the surface once more to battle.

The "Bismarck" set sail in May 1941 to reach the Atlantic and destroy merchant convoys, but he was intercepted by the British and during a brief fight, destroyed the former flagship of the British fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, the worldwide famous battlecruiser "Hood", by penetrating her armor and detonating her aft main ammunition magazine and killing all 1400 members of her crew except for 3 men, and heavily damaged the battleship "Prince of Wales". This enraged the prime minister Winston Churcil who ordered all his ships in the Atlantic to abandon their operations and destroy the Bismarck. In total more than 40 ships participated to the hunt, making it the biggest naval hunt in history. Meanwhile Bismarck, who had received a hit during the first battle, was leaking fuel and was trying to reach the French port of Saint Nazaire, in occupied France, for repair. After 3 days of playing cat and mouse with the British, Bismarck was attacked by airplanes launched from the aircraft carrier "Ark Royal" and hit by a torpedo in the stern, which jammed his rudders during evasive manuvers, meaning that he was forced to sail in circles, just a few miles away from reaching air cover. In the end battleships "King George V" and "Rodney", along side the heavy cruisers "Norfolk" and "Dorsedshire" fought the already doomed battleship and, during the following 90 minutes completely destroyed it. However, despite having all his guns destroyed, and having received more than 400 hits (out of the 2800 shells that the British had fired at it) his armor was still mostly intact and the ship was still afloat. So the british launched another 4 torpedoes and he disappeared beneath the waves. After inspection of the wreck however it had been discovered that the torpedoes did no significant damage thanks to the battleship's extensive underwater protection, and that Bismarck had probably been scuttled by his crew (although it should be noted that many historians believe that it would have eventually sunk due to the damage received). Of the 2200 men that served on it only 114 survived
shows how tough Bismark was, pretty sure as outdated as it is by today's standards, it can still hold its own..
To answer your question on why the aircrafts look like they're from World War 1 it's because during the 1930s and early stages of World War 2 torpedo technology wasn't advance and needed to be dropped close to the target and aimed accurately, and from low-level because the delicate mechanisms of the torpedo wouldn’t work if it hit the water falling too fast and a Biplane was an ideal plane for torpedo attacks due to its low speed.

You are right about your observation with the biplanes. Swordfish torpedo bombers were very outdated at the time but this happened pretty early on in the war
and were so slow that they didnt lose a single one because Bismarck's AA guns were designed for faster more modern planes and couldnt accurately shoot at them. LOL

Even the small older Swordfishplanes are accurate . Since the english used them to go real low and somewhat under the radar and the smaller units were also harder to hit .

This is ww2 in 1941 bismarck after firing it's fifth salvo at hms hood it had a magazine explosion and sunk in 3 minutes with 1,915 out of the 1,918 going down with the ship.

The skipper of the fishing trawler is the son of the last Survivor of the Bismarck.
The swordfish torpedo bombers had some advantages... it's low speed made for a more stable platform for dropping torpedoes which at the time really needed to be dropped in a narrow window of altitudes and speed. America didn't go that route because they had lots of money and resources to build things like the Avenger torpedo bomber. The other major advantage was actually quite interesting. Anti-aircraft weaponry was usually equipped with explosive shells instead of lead bullets or penetrators. The idea is that you can deal a lot more damage to aircraft with shrapnel than the occasional bullet passing through. The Swordfish however had a hull made primarily of textiles instead of metal so the anti-aircraft bullets would go right through them harmlessly. Aircraft like that don't care if there's a few tiny holes in it, it will still fly. This allowed the aircraft to return to base without any losses.

As it stands, some interesting things come out about Bismarck.
First, his 15" guns, when fired full broadside, knocked out his own radar.
Second, the Bismarck had issues dealing with aircraft. His anti-air guns (AA) could not elevate high enough to be effective, when the Swordfish torpedo-bombers came after Bismarck.
Third, about the aircraft. Not only were the airplanes from World War I, most nations were hesitant to spend money on airpower, even after the war began. Most military leaders thought World War II would be another war of trench warfare; the German blitzkrieg, "lightning war," put an end to that thought. It wasn't until 1941 that planes began being developed that resembled what we know, such as the Spitfire II (UK), the P-40 Warhawk, P-47 Thunderbolt, and the P-38 Lightning (US), the Yak-3 (Russia), the A6M "Zero" fighter of Japan, and finally, the BF-109 and BF-110 of the German Luftwaffe. Most early planes were still of World War I vintage, such as the PO-2 trainer planes given to the 588th Night Bombing Regiment of the Soviet Air Forces, the "Night Witches," which was a single-engine fighter that was a cloth and wood biplane, the same as the Swordfish torpedo-bombers you see here.

the Bismarck was meant to be great 'equaliser' for Germany at sea and their primary weapon to disrupt the American trade ships supplying Britain with much needed food and munitions in order to starve the British out and force a surrender of the last nation not to succumb to the Nazi warmachine, due to how prized the ship was, the commanders of the German navy sent this ship out without informing Hitler of what they were doing for fear of retribution from him, it was supposed to travel up the eastern side of Britain and loop around Scotland through the straight between Scotland and Iceland, where it would then take up routes throughout the north Atlantic sinking as many shipping runs as possible between the UK and the US.
thanks to Norway they provided intel that a massive German ship was moving into the North Sea off the British coast, so it was ordered to be followed, the Royal Navy sent the pride of the fleet the HMS Hood along with a few other ships to intercept this German ship and its escort the Prince Eugen, the Bismarck tried to evade the Royal Navy ships but ended up being forced into engagement, through a lucky shot it hit the HMS hood in the primary munitions chamber of the vessel and instantly destroyed the flagship of Britain, killing almost all onboard save for a handful of survivors, the HMS prince of wales fired on the Bismarck but also took damage and was forced to pull back out of combat lest she also be sunk.
it was determined that the Bismarck was not to escape and was to be destroyed by any means necessary, so the Royal Navy chased the Bismarck which was damaged by an extremely lucky strike by a Swordfish torpedo to the rudder, and while this didn't cripple the ship, it forced it into a situation where it could not turn properly and was restricted in what max speed it could achieve meaning that as time went on it became impossible to outrun the pursuing British fleet, as the Bismarck tried to reach France (which had already been overrun by the German army at this point) in order to signal for the German air force to provide air support to allow the Bismarck to get into a dock to get repaired it became apparent however that they would have to stand and fight, and after a lucky shot from the British fleet, hitting the command deck of the Bismarck killing any who were in there at the time, command of the ship fell to Ernst Lindemann who called for the ship to be scuttled and all remaining hands to abandon ship, in the music video it is Ernst Lindemann shown carving the co-ordinates of approximately where the Bismarck would sink.
as far as the music video is concerned it is a collaboration between the game development company 'wargaming' famous for their games 'world of warships' and 'world of tanks', hence why all the ships shown are both historically accurate as well as the CGI being extremely high quality.
the older guy who is captaining the fishing boat that the band is playing on is the real life son of the soldier that was given the compass pocketwatch by Admiral Ernst Lindemann on the Bismarck, and the one used in the music video is just a prop but he does in fact own the original still.
it should also be noted that the wreck of the Bismarck was found by the same person who found the wreck of the RMS Titanic, Robert Ballard, and to this day the actual location remains secret to protect it as a wargrave to those who died there, the true location known to very few people.

The wreck of Bismarck was discovered on 8 June 1989 by Robert Ballard, the oceanographer responsible for finding RMS Titanic. Bismarck was found to be resting on her keel at a dept of approximately 4,791 m (15,719 ft), about 650 km (400 mi) west of Brest. 48°10′N 16°12′W
There were a lot of weapons, ships, planes, etc. that saw action in WW1 were used again during WW2. Many of the battleships from all over were used during WW1. Of course, all were overhauled and modernized over time. In between the World Wars, the Interwar Period, there were treaties that limit the construction of new battleships and all navies retained many of their older vessels to compensate. Only a handful of new-gen battleships partook in WW2. Germany's Kreigsmarine's Scharnhorst-class and Bismarck-class. Italy's Regia Marina's Vittorio Veneto-class. The Imperial Japanese Navy's Yamato-class. The British Royal Navy's King George V-class. And the US Navy's North Carolina-class, South Dakota-class, and Iowa-class. Fun fact. The Iowa-class battleships were the only class of battleships in all of the world to be brought back on several occasions up until the 90's.
One of our neighbors who died years ago was a survivor of the Bismarck he was pretty miserable the rest of his days. Poor soul.😢

i listen to sabaton for about 17 years now, and i have to say, i actually learned more from sabaton about our history then from school, cause you don't get all the dirty details in school. They just present us as heros in their wars, but not how it actually was.
The Swordfish, the plane depicted had a unique history, it wasn't a WW1 aircraft, it was introduced in 1936, and was in use to the end of the war.
It could carry a 1760 lbs torpedo, or a 1500 lbs. mine or that much in bombs.
It had a range of over 500 miles and performance wise it beat the Devastator that the Americans started the war with. Which was a monoplane. It also mounted radar so it could perform night attacks. It looked primitive, but really wasn't.
They teamed up with World of Warships for the effects.
That's the irony of history, that what was then the most modern warship was so badly damaged at the rudder by WWI planes that she was no longer able to escape her pursuers.
hey guys, believe it or not those planes were the ACTUAL type they used in the 2nd world war, in that situation at least. First of all though it was the British navy, they launched them from one of there early aircraft carriers, one that was "old" and only carried swordfish biplane torpedo bombers, they had to approach at wave Hight to avoid the anti-aircraft guns from the Bismarck they were so slow, but could maintain lift at much lower speeds allowing for more accurate targeting. the torpedo bombers were able to hit one of her engines causing the ship to be trapped in a turn, making it an easy target for the fleet.

Did you know that both Germans and the Japanese in WWII had the largest Battleships in the world? They were larger then the USS Missouri and USS Iowa. The Germans had the the Bismarck and Tirpitz over 50,000 tons but both were destroyed and sent to the bottom. The Japanese Imperial Navy had Battleships Yamato and Musashi that were over 72,000 tons with the largest naval guns in history. USS Missouri had 16 inch cannons but Yamato and Musashi had 18.1 inch cannons.

the british used the swordfish torpedo bomber for a while due to its ability to fly slow without stalling and short runway requirements making it a great carrier fighter in WW2.

At the time all the British had was old WW1 Bi planes as Torpedo planes AKA the swordfish but they could reach speeds of over 100mph!
"WW1 aircraft" that were designed in 1935 and were VERY capable & adaptable heavy lift, short take off torpedo bomber / reconnaisance aircraft, capable of operating in the most mountainous of seas that would've seen more "modern" aircraft being kept safely lashed down in an aircraft carrier's "hangar deck".

yea, the crew shuttle Bismarck themselves, maybe with a few more days the allied would have managed to sink it, but they found all the torpedo walls from Bismarck that had no damage and the only cannon hots that went through Bismarck armour was waaaay above the water line where the armor were the thinnest when rudder was damaged and it could only go in circles it was doomed eventually, but the allied did not sink it, the german crew did to prevent the flagship of the country to fall into enemy hands
John, the planes are completely accurate, the Swordfish the RN was operating were a mid 1930s design, obsolescent but quite capable if there weren't modern fighters in range. The replacement for them was a botched design, so the Swordfish hung around almost to the end of the war. If you look up any plane that any belligerent started with in 39 and then look up the one it replaced, you're likely to find a biplane and of the top of my head can't think of any country that had more than two generations of monoplanes of any type enter service.
Emphasis on "if there weren't modern fighters in range". When Swordfish tried to stop the Channel dash in early 1942, they got murdered by the Luftwaffe.

Basically KMS Bismarck had the best Anti-Aircraft guns known to the world at the time.
