I wish I could get some of these tropical fruits here in somewhat rural Canada. I have never even seen a mangosteen in any shop or grocery store. Didn’t even know they existed!
If there are any Asian groceries near you, that's probably your best bet at finding some. You might also be able to order canned mangosteen online, but I highly recommend the fresh version!

There was a fun fact about the name of this fruit I read from the book when I was kid. In the past when foreigner visited Thailand, he was asking the fruit merchant what is this. Merchant didn't understand what he said and just tell the name of this fruit. Merchant: Mang-kood. Foreigner: Mango? Merchant: Mang-kood. Foreigner: Mango? Repeat few time Merchant frustrated: Mango son teen goo ni. It translate like "Mango my ass" but in Thai language we use the word "teen" when swearing that's meaning foot instead of ass. That's how the name of this fruit was born. ̶M̶a̶n̶g̶o̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶a̶s̶s̶. Mangosteen.
