  • Tom Hanks' new film Inferno is tearing up the international box office. Why? Because apparently someone somewhere likes these movies. Regardless... we decided to commemorate the 3rd film in the franchise by looking for sins in the original, The Da Vinci Code. Oooh, mama.
Thursday: Sins kind of similar to this video, actually.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

I think it's closer to "I'm an atheist, but because I was raised Catholic I was taught from a young age that I am corruptible and essentially evil, I and every other human who was ever born has failed God repeatedly despite him loving and accepting us despite said failures, our failures were forgiven before we even committed the failures in the first place, of course we haven't actually done anything to earn that forgiveness, we are just that bad and God is that good, basically guilting us with a debt that we can never repay ever, We all collectively bear the responsibility of Original Sin, humans are so bad our species murdered Jesus when he came selflessly to save us at the cost of his own life and his mother's grief, and I was taught to always feel responsibility, guilt, and shame for all of my imperfections and thought crime the church calls temptation", or for some people, their very identity. I don't believe in God or original sin or that I am saved or anything like that, but I am still glad that I learned shame, because I think being ashamed of yourself is wiser more compassionate and more reflective than being shameless which is ignorant possibly self destructive and very selfish.

This, however, is no comment on the people who like it).

    • @Sanakochan
      @Sanakochan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +25

I don't know if we can really blame the people who wrote the script or Dan Brown himself for this. It's a work of fiction, afterall, and they are free to do whatever they want as long as the plot and the world they are creating is coherent.
The problem comes with people who really think this kind of theories are real. I studied Philology and I was taught that, when analyzing a book or other works of art, the first thing to do is always to try to understand the historical context in which the book/painting... was created. It's important to know the author and, above all, to know that many of the things the authors put in their works weren't obscure for their audience (a good example is Dante. We don't know many references in Divina Commedia, but we are sure Dante knew the audience of his time understood perfectly what he meant). This means that seeing obscure symbols everywhere (in a Robert Langdon way) isn't exactly the correct way to analyze something, because often we tend to give to certain things meanings according to our context Once we had a lecture with an expert od Da Vinci's works, and he said he was sad to see people watch "L'ultima cena", see some kind of triangle somewhere and say that what Da Vinci wanted to tell was the untold story of Jesus. He said that by doing this these people missed the point.
So, I don't think "The Da Vinci Code" is guilty of something. Personally I didn't like the book, but I understand its purpose. Like you, I can't stand people who see conspirancies everywhere, but I don't blame someone because he/she enjoyed a book.

What does Moriarty have against Steve Jobs?
For anyone who may think I'm mixing things up:
The IOU on an apple is from Sherlock's "The Reichenbach Fall", where Moriarty carves it into an apple he's bitten. But the apple the character used has been replaced by Apple's logo, merging 2 very different things. I'm just curious as to why Isobel has those 2 things combined.

the reason why when sophie pulls the painting a bit and it doesnt sound alarms was because the alarm was already activated, because sauniere activated it so silas wouldn't get close to him in the beggining. so technically, the steel gates were already down, and it didnt sound an alarm because yea. at least according to the book. and also it wasnt the "evil satanic bible based villains" who drew the star, it was sauniere himself? i think. also also, madonna of the rocks and virgin of the rocks are TWO different paintings, not one that is "commonly known" as virgin of the rocks. the people leonardo was painting for did not like madonna of the rocks for whatever reason (in the book it's said that it's because of some creepy ass simbolism but whatever) so leonardo painted one that looked like madonna of the rocks but "cleaner", hence virgin of the rocks. madonna of the rocks is in the louvre, while virgin of the rocks is in the national gallery in london. not to be THAT girl but,,, the virgin of the rocks sin really cringed me out

Actually, it's all fiction he has admitted isn't true, and you might as well accuse Tolkien of trying to sell us on Middle-Earth being prehistoric Earth as being true.
This book was actually influenced largely in part by The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail, and THAT book actually tries to sell people on its content being factual.
Dan Brown isn't telling us this is factual, this is just realistic fiction that people took too seriously. Don't blame the writer for writing a convincing story. You come up with a new and vague twist to religious ideals, and religious nuts will clamor to it.

Apples used to be smaller and rounder and hang in clusters. Pretty much any produce you see these days has undergone thousands of years of modification by man to be at its most nutritious/ highest yielding quality. Watermelons used to be small, round and almost all rind and seeds, corn used to look like a slightly glorified wheat, yada yada. I know Leonardo was kicking it approx 500 years ago but I bet the apples they were crunching on were probably orb-ish?

Jonathan Moosey October 13, 1307 was, indeed, a Friday. The calendar changed September 3rd/14th, 1752, when Pope Gregory XIII introduced a new more accurate calendar to replace the Julian calendar to fix the fact that Easter was off by 11 days. If you roll back the current Gregorian calendar to October 13, 1307, then it would be Thursday.

Ohhh, CinemaSins. You really weren't paying attention to this movie. I guess 3 hours would do that to anyone.
You say the villains drew the symbols on Sauniere when just a few seconds before you say he drew them on himself.
You found out the Louvre has 1000 security guards but not that the alarm system would not sound again after Sauniere set it off the first time (the gate that blocked Silas from chasing him).Madonna on the Rocks and Virgin on the Rocks are 2 very similar but different paintings. The Swiss bank arsehole doesn't leave, they escape from him, taking his truck. It is common for the word scotoma to be used metaphorically the way Teabing used it. Love the callback though.
I would love to see some of those Tom Hanks/swastika memes!
I'd take your performance apart in more detail, but I'm nowhere near as talented as you are at this. Besides, I'd have to subtract several hundred sins because you entertain me so much, so you'd never get sentenced about way. ;) Cheers.

I read Da Vinci Code at uni and liked it. Movie was fine but forgettable. Then I watched Angels and Demons and yet again his new ally turns out to be behind it. Surely Langdon would have trust issues by this point but I saw the trailer for Inferno and said 'well, bet that person who appears to be helping him actually has nefarious motives and will betray him at some point'. It's getting formulaic at this point.

Guy Incognito The movies made it seem like the stories are sequential, with Angels and Demons being the sequel, when in actuality Angels and Demons was written first.
