this sounds like a great plugin but I absolutely don't understand how to use it. in the documentation you start with "this button reverts back to proboolean". revers from what? I didn't do anything so far. the video also starts with a full mesh and the smoothboolean open, and random edges appearing. what? could you be more specific? could you start from the beggining? did you make the mesh with proboolean? how do you make those edges? I don't understand jack
I know this type of boolean modeling has been around for a bit, but i feel what makes this plug-in stand out from the rest is the accuracy of the strips. When comparing SmoothBoolean to Modo's Mesh-Fusion, Blender's Bevel After Boolean, and even Maya's Hardmesh, you can really see how the strips are the most accurate out of the others mentioned. Truthfully, Mesh-Fusion struggles profoundly with sharp angle changes. Hardmesh, I believe, handles this much better, but Hardmesh has a massive performance problem. Not only that but the fact that the corners of SmoothBoolean's bevels are clean, quad geometry really helps make a difference. Compare the corners of a mesh from Mesh-Fusion, and it's nothing but spiders/stars. Props on your work into making such a great plug-in. Honestly it looks the most polished out of the competition, but my problem with buying it is the horrendous support from Autodesk's development on Max. As much as I'd love this product, it's the looming fear that Max will be the next Softimage that keeps me from jumping back into it. It's a shame too, KM-3D and many others have made extraordinary tools for Max, some of which I don't even think Autodesk is capable of.
after almost 2 days of testing and carefully setting up my booleans this still doesnt work. i have redone the same steps over and over paying attention to my smoothing groups and boolean operation order but I still get messages that my model is not watertight or that the pro boolean is not valid. when it does work its with simple booleans from primitives or simplistic objects. what a waste of time
Hello. Could you send me the problematic scene, where you can't solve the SmoothBoolean mesh? I need to see what is causing it. My email: kamil@km-3d.com
Looks great, how does it compare to Modo Meshfusion? I believe Meshfusion is a bit more flexible with the combination lower and higher density meshes and generates better quads (less ngons and triangles) So it subdivides better.
MeshFusion is more powerful for now and it has realtime mesh generator. I'd say my plugin creates better strips intersections with pure quads, but as you said my plugin can create n-gons near the chamfers. However, I have plans to constantly the SmoothBoolean, it is just the first release.
Cannot find the hotfix, it is still version 1.0 on the website. One more thing, is it possible for you to add previous versions of Max? Mean to make the script works on older version? This was the thing i have been waiting for since 2016
This is very promising plugin but I can't try it because 3ds max 2018 is always crash once I press "solve mesh" button I don't know if this is demo version related issue or something wrong I do in proboolean setup.
@@KM3DCOM ok. i found a reason why this happened. Looks like smooth boolean conflict with another plugin called HDR light studio connection. Please fix it.
Thank you for your replay. The problem is that this happens very random.. Same scene (mega simple - sphere and cylinder) - freeze, then it may work or not (identical steps) ... @@MrKoshnica I'd still need that 3ds max scene where the error occurs, because I have to be certain that it is or isn't a boolean setup fault. Could you tell me how many cpu cores do you have? And how often (maybe in %) does the freeze occur?

So if I get it right Vertex normals are going to be ruined if I'll export it to other DCC or game engine that doesn't support custom Vertex Normals, right?
Yep, small shading issues may appear near the chamfers, you can see the same issue when you add an Edit_Poly modifier to your solved SmoothBoolean mesh.
@@Eternal_23 But you can convert SmoothBoolean to Editable_Poly object and your normals will remain smooth. Only the Edit_Poly modifier rebuilds the normals, Edit_Mesh modifier doesn't do that. One person has done more for 3ds Max, than what Autodesk does in several years of updating.

HardMesh plugin for Max is on the way. It is modifier based and doesn't have this weird workflow where you have to prepare the cutters.

There's none, the only limitation in demo is that the generated mesh isn't renderable/editable.
